My Disneyland dining reviews, with pictures

20241115_172544.jpg
Brew and Bites -Chicken Chicharron with chutney and basmati rice : This was actually really good, had an herbal spiciness to it, the chicken is chewy but still meaty for it being chicken skin. Honestly, it tasted like thin sliced chicken thigh meat fried twice.

20241105_180756.jpg

This dessert was perfection, and I'm sooo sad it's only seasonal. This was the taro bread pudding at Aunt Cass Cafe in DCA. Coconut, taro, boba white chocolate = delicious and addicting, I'm sad I only was able to have it twice during the Halloween season.

20241115_175315.jpg

Sticky Toffee Macaron - Favorite Things booth. Absolutely delicious! Buttery, caramel toffee rich notes. Another addicting dessert and worthy of being a 'favorite thing'! I'm sad I only got one, but I'll be back before the season ends.
20241115_172525.jpg

Pumpkin Bread Pudding at Aunt Cass Cafe in DCA- this was decent, but no where as delicious as the Taro Bread Pudding. Brown Sugar, pumpkin and spiced well for the comfort of eating pumpkin pie without actually eating pumpkin pie.

Broken Spell Lounge at The Disneyland Hotel.
I got 2 of the seasonal drinks.
5 Golden Rings (red drink) was delicious. It's a sweet drink, but not as intensely sweet as many of the drinks in the park. It reminded me of a sweet Martini.

The Peppermint Kiss tasted like toothpaste to me. It's a Grasshopper type drink and I have always wanted to try a grasshopper because they drink them in some of the old movies that I enjoy. I ended up Googling what it's supposed to taste like because I didn't understand why anyone would drink toothpaste. Google said the Grasshopper drink tastes like mint chip ice cream. After reading that, I sipped again and I could taste the mint chip ice cream flavor. However, follow up sips were back to toothpaste.

The quinoa and kale salad+ chicken was fabulous. It's exactly the type of thing I love to order out because I don't make delicious salads at home, due to all the ingredients. It was also huge and I took half of it back to my room.PXL_20241123_032210045.jpgPXL_20241123_033121776.jpgPXL_20241123_032319349.MP.jpgPXL_20241123_040235841.jpgPXL_20241123_033438329.jpg

Went with a group this evening to try some of the Festival of Holidays foods and to enjoy the nighttime entertainment.

Studio Catering Co

Boat Snacks Burrito
- Kalua-style Pork with Spiced Ham and Egg Fried Rice, Spicy Cabbage Slaw and Charred Pineapple, served with Hawaiian Mac Salad

This was pretty good. Definitely tasted the Kalua pork and pineapple, but didn't taste any Spam (aka spiced ham).

1732424761200.png 1732424977027.png

Grandma's Recipes

Barbacoa Tamal de Res
with Oaxaca cheese, tomatillo salsa and crema

We all thought this was lackluster.

1732425265976.png 1732425675322.png

Festive Food Marketplace

Turkey Galantine Croissant Muffin Slider
with herb mayo and cranberry marmalade

Note, this was a croissant, not a muffin. One person in our group thought this was really good savory & sweet combo. I thought it was a little salty.

1732425979243.png 1732426262961.png

Holiday Duets

Half portion of Savory Kugel Mac & Cheese with herb breadcrumbs, sour cream, and chives and half portion of Chorizo Queso Fundido Mac & Cheese with tortilla crunch

This is a fan favorite. It was pretty good. I'm not much of a mac n cheese person so am not the best person to ask. Others in our group devoured it.

1732426618640.png

Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta

Holiday Pizza
- Roasted Turkey with Roasted Butternut Squash, Cranberries, Arugula, Fig Jam and Cranberry Sauce

1732426809784.png

Merry Mashups

M&M’S Peanut Butter Fudge Cake
: Chocolate fudge cake filled with peanut praline and M&M’S Peanut Butter Minis, glazed with salted peanut butter, and topped with vanilla Chantilly crème

This was really good. The peanut praline inside made it taste like a very decadent Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.

1732427137240.png

Favorite Things

Sticky Toffee Pudding Macaron
: Mickey-shaped chocolate macaron filled with vanilla buttercream, date cake, and salted toffee sauce

This is adorable. It was very sweet and we all felt that it didn't have the depth of flavor that some of the other macarons in the parks have. This is definitely a fan favorite so don't be swayed by one person's opinion.

1732427281287.png

Milk Stand (SWGE)

Wookiee Ookiees - Pecan Chocolate Shortbread, Salted Caramel

This was very large, very filling and definitely sharable. My spouse is not much of a chocolate person, but loves pecan pie and thought this was very good. There are pecans on the top and the bottom (as if the dough was rolled in pecans before it was baked). There was plenty of caramel to have some with each bite.

That catfish sandwich looks delicious.
The stink face near the pancakes, they weren't good?

The catfish was pretty darn good. Wasn't that the dish that you wanted but they were sold out of?

The rolls were on a tray, pre-loaded with mayo, lettuce and tomato. When we ordered, they added two large pieces of warm catfish on top. It was a generous portion. The sauce on the side complimented it well. I would definitely order it again.

No, the pancakes were not good. The pancakes themselves were thin and stale. We went to brunch on the later side so they were probably made in the morning and left out for several hours. But the part that made it really bad was the coconut cream. I'm not sure how they made it, but it wasn't sweet. It had an odd bitter aftertaste and was very thick so it overpowered the thin pancakes. It was not anything remotely close to resembling haupia. It did not come with syrup. The pineapple was odd as well. I got three soft pieces and the rest was the core of the pineapple.

I would rate the pancakes below Red Rose Tavern's Chicken Cordon Boo. :sad1:

OK, now I'm curious @LKing - you seem to have eaten everyone in the parks. :-) What are your favorite and least favorite dishes at 1) a QS restaurant in the parks and 2) TS restaurant in the parks? What about desserts? I think I need to branch out next time I'm there and your pictures always whet my curiosity (and appetite)!

Haha, I don't eat all of the dishes. Many times I am with a group of people and I just take pictures and/or take a bite of the food. As an example, in the case of the the holiday pizza, I didn't actually eat that item.

In general, I don't like the food festival carts or popular snack items (ex. garlic bread, churros, corn dogs). I've never had a turkey leg, a pretzel, or popcorn from a cart. In Disneyland, I've never eaten at Bengal BBQ, Cafe Daisy, Harbour Galley (except for the cookies) or Market House. It has been 20+ years since I've eaten at Galactic Grill, Royal Street Veranda or Club 33. Other than the Wookie Ookie above, I've eaten once in SWGE. Since I know nothing about SW, I can't tell you what the items were or where they were ordered from. In DCA, I haven't eaten at Adorable Snowman, Angry Dogs, Boardwalk Pizza, Clarabelle's, Ghiradelli's, Jack Jack's, Poultry Palace or Club 1901. I ate half of a pesto cone at Cozy Cone and got sick. As such, I haven't returned, or tried anything, from the other Cozy Cone huts. I don't drink alcoholic beverages so that eliminates a lot of places.

I think my favorite counter service restaurant in DL is Tiana's. I like their gumbo and the half chicken. I just told my spouse that I wouldn't mind trying Hungry Bear BBQ again. When we ate there, the brisket sandwich was really good. I've only had it once, and only ate a quarter of it, so I don't know if it is consistently good. My least favorite are Red Rose Tavern and Alien Pizza Planet.

I rarely eat at Disneyland restaurants that require a reservation. The meal I had at Cafe Orleans was good, but it was a seasonal item. I had a really good pancake at Carnation Cafe. Maybe it is just on my mind because the RB pancakes were so bad.

In DCA, I think the Paradise Gardens seasonal items are usually quite good. I also like San Fransokyo, but the items I've ordered multiple times haven't been consistent. Still, I think San Fransokyo is a great place to eat for large parties with different tastes. For reservations, Carthay Circle would be my favorite.

Desserts: Hands down the Snickers macaron that is at the carts during Food & Wine. Otherwise, I'm a candy apple person. However, I bring them home and don't eat them at the parks.

Thank you! Had to Google some of these (hadn't heard of Club 1901 before!) Still quite an impressive list of where you've been, and will make a mental note to try the Snickers macron during F&W (have never tried that one before)! If you go back to Hungry Bear, the corn ribs are quite good (though very overpriced for the amount of food you get).

Yeah, they're weren't sold out, just out of spots for mobile order. Glad you enjoyed it!

My latest food reviews for the holidays:

Meatloaf Dinner burger at Galactic Grill: Meat/veggie patty topped, with a hashbrown, sweet ketchup. arugula. onion aioli, Havarti cheese on a hawaiian bun. Sadly, I was sooo hungry I didn't capture a picture of this deliciousness. I don't order burgers from DL, because they typically are basic and or dry. I also stay away from Galactic grill, BUT, this burger was delicious. Very onion forward, juicy patty, very filling and flavorful! The hashbrown wasn't needed, but didn't make it less appetizing. 9/10 I would order again!

The infamous coco puff cold brew in GE: This is my second time trying it. I really want to like it, but it's very simple and not coffee forward imo. I don't see the hype, besides having coco puffs with my cold brew lol Mine tasted like a sweet chocolate milk, with a light coffee taste. 6/10

Ginger cookies at Harbor Galley: I'm so sad, I didn't order these twice. They are chewy, spice forward, gingery, warm cookies that are easy to eat. Dare I say, I prefer these over the Chocolate Chip! Because they are moist, I stored them in a zip loc bag in my gingerbread house bucket and they were still tender on the 3rd day. 10/10

Festival of the Holidays, duel Mac n Cheese: I preferred the chorizo Mac. The sour cream based one was heavy, but still tasty. I do enjoy Mac n Cheese but I'm particular and favor homemade (or Chickfila's) I would say for the price point of using a Sip'n Savor Pass, I would do it, but as a last resort. 7/10

FOH24.jpg

Collage foods:
Toffee Macaron 10/10: sweet, festive, caramel, rich *Sip'n Savor available
Chilaquiles Torta 4/10: It looked appetizing but the flavors were disjointed. The texture of the chilaquiles, the beans, bread, guac. I like these ingredients separately, just not in their version of a torta. *Sip'n Savor available
Cafe De Olla 8/10: It's verrry sweet, so I babied it and made sure the ice melted a bit, not easy to drink unless you like super sweet cold brews. However, I prefer it due to the hints of spice and actually being a bit stronger in coffee compared to Coco Puff Cold Brew. *Sip'n Savor available
Breakfast Croissant @ Port of San F. Cerveceria 10/10: This beats the Breakfast Ronto Wrap at GE as my number one breakfast item at the parks. It's comforting, warm, savory, cheesy, buttery and filling. It's delicious.

Ohhh, my spouse wants to try this. Thanks for the rave review. We are going one more time this week before our MK is blocked. Maybe we will get this instead of Hungry Bear.

I think these are better than the chocolate chip as well.

I had the torta on the first day and it was pretty good. I've been back twice with people who had it on their list of things to try. I didn't eat it the other times, but based on the appearance and their responses, I think it got progressively worse each time. The wait also got worse each time. I think it is such a popular item that they can't keep up with the demand.

If we weren't doing sip n savor, I would have ordered the burger on our second trip. I watched FreshBaked's review of the holiday foods and he said it was tasty. I tend to trust a majority of his recommendations because he's not shy about saying something doesn't taste good, so he's more believable imo. As always people have different taste buds, so in general you really do have to try things for yourself.

I was sad about the torta because I love Chilaquiles. But you are right, it took a long time for our order, and the kitchen was backed up, so rush job is maybe why it didn't taste enjoyable.

Today is the last day of 2024 Holiday food.

Adding images I forgot to post.

Jolly Holiday

Thanks-mas Sandwich
- Oven-roasted Turkey Breast , Stuffing, Gravy and Cranberry Sauce on Rustic Bread, served with House-made Chips

Meatloaf Dinner Burger

Thought I'd add a few new things I tried my last trip (Jan 11-14)...
Now that I'm a Magic Kay holder again (yay!) I had to try the Magic Key Terrace. I ordered the

Emperor's New Flatbread

Huacatay-marinated Chicken, Oaxaca and Smoked Mozzarella, Radish, Huancaína Sauce, Huacatay Pistou and Micro Cilantro
$17.00

This was decent, though too spicy for me. I'd enjoy it more if it had less heat. (Personally would not order again). Luckily I ordered the 'Shipwreck' drink, and it was very tasty (and helped cool off the heat).

1000014315.jpg

And since heard good reviews about it on the forum, I finally tried the cream cheese filled pretzel. ...SO good! Soft salty outside and sweet creamy I side. I will definitely be getting this again on my next trip.
1000014420.jpg
And the last new-to-me thing I tried was the Soup in Sour dough bread bowl. (12.99) @ Harbor Galley. I had the steak gumbo version. The gumbo was decent (but not as good as the one @ Blue Bayou). I adore sour dough bread bowls, but the one I got was super tough, so I stuck to eating the inside. If I could get a fresh bread bowel, I'd definitely order this again.

Tried some Lunar New Year items today.

Paradise Garden

Whole Fish
- with Steamed Rice and Stir-fried Vegetables, served Family-style for two

I wanted to try this last year, but didn't get the chance. I was happy to see it on the menu again. Sadly, it wasn't as good as I expected it to be.

1737861635860.png

Small portion of rice for two people and over cooked vegetables.

1737861769478.png

Banh Mi - Grilled Pork Belly with Pickled Carrots & Daikon, Cucumber and Jalapeño with Spicy Mayo on a French Roll

This was good tasting and really well prepared. The French roll had a nice crunch to it. The vegetables were fresh and the spicy mayo didn't overtake the sandwich. I would definitely order this again.

1737861984180.png

Vending cart by Paradise Garden

Sweet Taro Bread - Taro cream cheese icing and condensed milk

This was surprisingly good. Sweet bread and warm, sweet filling. Everyone in our group rated this a 10/10.

1737862389775.png 1737862481970.png

Studio Catering Company

Scallion Pancake Tostada
- Fried scallion pancake, bulgogi beef, kimchi aïoli, and spicy scallion salad

I've heard great things about this and it did not disappoint. Although I couldn't taste scallion in the pancake, the meat was very flavorful. The scallion salad on top was fresh and complimented the meat well.

1737863222335.png

A couple of disappointments (no pictures):
Raspberry Peanut Butter Square - The chocolate PB square is one of our favorites. This version had a "chocolatey" coating. We prefer milk chocolate over the raspberry flavored fake chocolate.
Caramel Apple with Snickers bar pieces - The Snickers bar pieces were stale. I don't think this is a popular item so it probably wasn't as fresh as the other caramel apples.

It was fun watching all of the new goodies being made at the Wonderful World of Sweets.

My recent winter food discoveries:
Almond cookie bread pudding at Aunt Cass. This was surprisingly delicious, the sauce had a delicate orange flavor to it and the bread pudding overall had a good almond flavor.

The taro cold brew was at pym's Test Kitchen. The consistency was thick, but overall a good flavor, very sweet.

The banh mi hot dog at award wieners was delicious although fatty due to the pork belly, only a half slice of hot dog was on the sandwich.

The pineapple strawberry smoothie at Galactic Grill was my favorite drink item. Creamy, fruity, tropical. Next, the veggie shawarma near Pyms was pretty good but spicy. A good breakfast/early lunch item.

Lastly, the pho Dip-my favorite sip and savor item! Ordered 3 total to share. I heard mixed reviews but ours had a lot of meat, although it would have been perfect if it were hot.

Other lunar items, I didn't get pictures of because I was too hungry lol
The char siu pork shank bowl- one bowl was made with pork belly...overall I rate it 8/10. Has a kick to it!
The "beef" 🥦 was o.k. a good veggie option. 7/10.
The Mickey hot dog bun- 10/10 I see why they sold out one day.
The Mango sago Parfait -9/10 creamy and refreshing, good Mango flavor and coconuty.
The coconut passionfruit drink - 8/10. Verrry sweet but tropical. Took a long time to finish this one, thick consistency.

Overall, this festival was better than the holiday one imo.

I was so excited for the taro bread. Ours didn't have any filling in it! Just icing drizzled. It was like eating kings hawaiian rolls with Taro icing. Very dissatisfied. Yours looks delicious, I should have taken it back.
