My dining reviews from May 11 - 16, 2006 ~ WITH PICTURES!

Thanks for all the pics and the reviews. I am trying to plan and am getting stuck. Too many choices, not enough time (or money).

Enjoying your reviews ~ Thanx for sharing.

Lovely piccies.

I usually LOVE this restaurant. I've had the pot roast a few times and the fried chicken once before, and thought both dishes were great, and exactly what they were supposed to be, in terms of being good basic great-tasting homestyle food.

Well this time everything wasn't so good...

I started off with the fried cheese, which I knew in advance was NOT similar to a mozzarella stick in any way shape or form. I knew it was going to be a soft, speadable cheese, deep fried, and served with slices of crisp bread and fruit.

This appetizer was excellent! Definitely not the healthiest choice on the menu, but it was prepared and served well; not greasy, not cold or too too hot; it was just right. And the fruit with it was a nice addition. Here's a picture of two of them, one of them hadn't been broken into yet, the other shows what the inside looks like:

The only thing I would've changed about that appetizer is served smaller pieces of the crispy bread, instead of just two large pieces.

DH had the shrimp cocktail, and a friend had the seafood spread type of thing:

I didn't get any pictures of the potroast, but they have definitely changed how they prepare this, and the changes are for the worse. I did not care for this pot roast at all, and I am a big pot roast fan. I wish I had gotten a picture of it, but it looked basically like it had in the past. Another friend dining with us also got the pot roast and she agreed with my assessment. I will never again order, or recommend, the pot roast at 50'sPT. My DH got the fried chicken, I took a bite, and I'm happy to say that it was still as delicious as the last time we had it.

For dessert I ordered my favorite thing on the menu; S'mores. These, too, were a disappointment because the tops of the marshmallows were scorched black. (Why did I not take a picture of these things that I didn't like?? LOL). I've had the S'mores at this restaurant several times and the marshmallows are usually a nice golden brown. These were charred black. I was too dismayed, and overall not happy with my meal anyway, so I didn't even bother to complain to the waitress. I did eat all around the edges, which weren't as badly charred. Oh, and our waitress was just "ok". If we had been in any other restaurant, I'd have thought she was OK, but she did not get into her role as our "cousin" in any way, shape, or form. I didn't really care, but there were many in our party who were disappointed. (We were dining with a group of 11 people).

I give the 50's Prime Time a rating of only ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo because the main course was terrible, my dessert was burned, and our server was just barely "ok". LOVED the appetizer though, and I recommend it :)

Also, please keep in mind that the S'mores are usually not charred, and my DH's fried chicken was still good. I think the 50's Prime Time still can be a good, fun place to go, but I'm very disappointed in the pot roast now.

Oh, here's a picture of DH's hot fudge sundae, with a caramel sundae in the background:

And someone at our table ordered the Dad's sundae; it was huge. LOL

Cape Girl! These are great reviews! I can't wait to read more! :)

Thank you SO MUCH for the great reviews and pictures. One thing ... did Boma not have prime rib the night you ate there? I thought they always had prime rib; did the marinated steak replace it that night do you think? Thanks again and keep up the good work! :thumbsup2

Excellent reviews Seaspray excellent Jiko food pics. Tell me what didnt live up to your expectations ? I'm intrigued! :goodvibes

Thanks Seaspray for confirming my plan of just gettng the fried cheese appetizer and dad's super sundae at 50's P.T. I didn't care for the pot roast either but have not stopped telling people on here about that cheese thing!
And we're going to Kona based solely on your lovely pictures! Thanks for always including pics with your reviews.

Also thanks for the info on the 50's prime time diner....I am going to the world with 3 girlfriends...2 of which have never been and I was going between 50's PT and the Sci-fi....I think I will bring them to the Sci-fi.

This was our first time ever to dine at Restaurant Marrakesh and it was one of those highlights that I mentioned at the beginning of this thread. I liked everything about the restaurant, the service, and the food.

The mint tea:

Bread and butter (very tasty!)

Jasmina salad - this was mine, without the olives and feta cheese:

DH's Jasmina salad, as it would normally be served:

These Shish Kebobs were wonderful! The beef was very flavorful and tender, cooked just right. The rice was very nice; soft without being mush, and the little bits of veggie in the rice were tasty. I enjoyed the sauce that the shish kebobs sat on... All in all, I was happily surprised at how much I enjoyed this meal, and we will definitely be returning here.

Here are the chicken kebobs:

DH and I shared the Crepes Atlas for dessert. This was a nice, light ending to a wonderful meal:

I happily give Restaurant Marrakesh ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

We enjoyed the belly dancer, but my pictures of her did not turn out very well, I couldn't get close enough to get a good shot, and I didn't want to walk in front of the tables that were right up next to the dance floor. She brought several of the little girls up to the dance floor to the dance with her, they all looked like they had a lot of fun :goodvibes
