My DH's cousin was murdered

I never thought I'd be posting on a board like this, but I'm thankful that it is here. I just really need to vent.

Yesterday morning my DH's cousin was stabbed to death at her home. Her 10 year old son was there, also. The killer was the boy's father. The mom had called the police when the dad arrived at the house (she had a restraining order against him). He tried to fight off his dad while his mom was being attacked. Minutes later the boy called 911 to say his mom was dead. Last night the killer was found dead from an apparent suicide. Our family is absolutely devastated.

I couldn't sleep at all last night. My heart just aches for that boy. And for her parents, brother and grandmother. They all lived in that house. How will they ever return to that place? How will that boy ever feel safe again? I am so unbelievably angry that this beautiful woman has been killed, but it just repulses me that this monster did it in front of his own son. That child will never be the same.

That's just awful. I'm so sorry.

I just wish that domestic violence and mental illness would be taken more seriously. Obviously, this killer was mental and nothing can stop those people except to throw them in jail. A restraining order means NOTHING to someone bound on vengeance. It only works on people who probably don't really need them.

Restraining orders are so useless since you can't put them into effect until the person is within striking distance.
