In trying to justify buying VGF, I have come up with the following:

  • Sell my 250 point AKV contract for ~$122 pp after sales expenses
  • Buy 200 points at VGF for $186 pp, which would require $6.8k more cash than I would get from selling AKV. Boooo
  • BUT - VGF dues are cheaper! I'd "save" $1,312 per year in dues, which is a 14% "return" on that extra $6.8k I'm "investing"
Of course, I would lose 50 points in the process but a 14% return isn't so shabby ;) the things we do to rationalize our fix...

You'll get less out of 200 pts at VGF than you get with 250 at AKV. I think you should consider that, too, unless 200 at VGF/in general is good for your travel needs.

But don't let me stop you! I'm selling my resale SSR to help payoff the BLT pts I purchased last month direct during the sale. And there was no 14% return lol, it was plainly more expensive but we'll be happy.

I'd say go for it. I'm still debating with my self if I should just buy the 200 VGF or sell one contract to pay for the 200 VGF points :rolleyes1

I am selling SSR so I could buy more VGF to get a better price, I was going for 150 originally, which would bring me to 950 total points.

Instead, selling 200 to get 300 so not as many new, but instead of being 500 SSR, 300 RIV, and 150 VGF, I’ll now have 300 At each.

Its basically costing me the same to do this as it would have to just add the 150, but it was worth having more VGF for home resort.

So I’d go for it if you want the different home resort.

Are you going to factor in the point chart difference?

Yes, that's for sure the points don't go as far. I would have to borrow yearly and then take a year off every so often to top up again. I'm going less than I used to since I'm not a fan of many recent changes, so might not be a huge deal.

Eh since you can stay at AKV pretty much 10 months out of a year it wouldn't impact you unless you were in the End Nov->Dec, a race weekend or Easter.

The losing an extra 50 points is likely the bigger thing but really just have to plan out what you would be doing with your points.

Flip side on VGF you would have an easier time getting Standard View at VGF which is a bigger deal since you would likely never get that with your AKV points.

Trading in AKV, SSR, OKW points typically works in your favor for booking simply because you can book pretty much anything you want most of the year at those resorts except for AKV Club/Value, OKW 3BR, or SSR THV. By getting something like VGF, BLT, BWV, RIV you end up with the ability to possibly get standard view rooms which would be out of reach others.

My only concern is not being able to book at Jambo. That is an underrated benefit of owning there since it seems to book up much quicker than Kidani.

I've noticed it does book up quicker, but still rather available. What makes you like Jambo better? I assume you're booking studios?

We prefer Jambo because:

1. The Mara. Kidani doesn't have a true qs restaurant.
2. The gift shop.
3. The lobby at Jambo is far superior.
4. Our experience is that we see more animals at Jambo than Kidani.

We do mostly book studios, since it's only myself, my wife, and our son.

On the occasion that we decide to do a one br, it's always Kidani. Wish Jambo had the two bath setup in the one br's like the ones at Kidani.

I have been debating selling my WL contract to buy some BLT. I keep going bac and forth on it.

You'd lose 50 points and about 8 nights when you "graduate" to the punishing VGF points chart.

I don't think AKV Standard is quite as readily available as you imply here.

I'd keep the AKL. I don't want to pay taxes on the gain and pay more money for less points.

At 7 months in Kidani its pretty available for Standard View outside of the NOV/DEC time frame which you have to be more flexible for or possibly stay at your home resort.

Its all a slight guess but its a guess based on personal observation and availability charts that exist that others have collaborated to make and up to date.

If you are dead set on AKV Std View though then keep the AKV points but most people don't seem to have that as a primary want.
