My Dear Irrational Fears

:scared: For something so non-invasive, MRIs are the WORST experience ever. I hardly want to dwell on it long enough to reply to your post (I'm actually shaking a little bit right now). I am generally a pretty "cool cucumber" but I barely made it through my last cranio-spinal scan (the one where you're locked down into the head cage). I'll never understand why they don't offer heavy sedation for procedures like that.

Ask for it next time. They know I need two sleeping pills or they won't get me in there. Like you, I have the head cage and it's the worst. I keep my eyes closed the whole time.

I've found that counting the beeps makes it go faster..of course, that could just be because I'm stoned LOL

1) biscuit tubes : I have to have dd do it or I do a run and throw at the counter.
It took me a while to figure out what a "biscuit tube" was, but I finally figured it out. I used to love to pop the biscuit/crescent roll tube when I was a kid and it's just not the same now that I'm an adult.

The closest thing I have to an irrational fear is that I don't particularly like clowns.

Had to think what a biscuit tube was also, go it finally DUH!!

ITA, I don't think I have any "fears" or phobias. I do get uncomfortable standing at the edge of a very high height, like within a foot or so of a ledge.

I feel you on the fears, planes and spiders especially!
But I think they are sort of rational fears for all of us! lol
I had a wolf spider in my house a few years back, thing crawled out of the fireplace, it was the biggest spider I've ever seen myself in person. My dog kept barking at it and it kept moving so I called for back up to kill that sucker. Planes freak me out obviously the turbulence and crashing. My Uncle is a pilot and says statistically you're safer in a plane than in a car but I don't care those things scare me... Flying next week so the silver lining is I don't let my fears stop me from living

Snakes in particular.

I used to never fear flying, but I do more now.

Tests like MRIs, etc...

I don't have any true phobias, but I am not a fan of heights (although I don't have a problem riding in an airplane); I will ride rollercoasters, etc., I just don't really love them.

I do not like wooden bridges, especially the ones that sway/rock. I will go on one if I have to, but I am always sure it is going to snap.

ETA: I also get a little bit of the heebie jeebies when I see enlarged photographs-on FB it keeps popping up as some fear of holes thing, so I guess I have that

Also to add, I don't really like snakes. If I see one out somewhere, I will generally go "nope" and walk the other way, but if I know it isn't some dangerous snake (like a show at the zoo or something), then I am fine.
I also don't like rats and mice, not deathly afraid, just don't like them.

My only fear for myself is snakes. I even have night terrors about them. Oh, and bridges over water. If I am the driver I am ok, it's being the passenger that freaks me out.

Most of my fears have to do with my daughter. I am terrified for my daughter around campfires. We camp every weekend in the summer and I can't go to bed if she is still awake (even though she is 14) because I have this fear that she is going to trip or not pay attention and fall into the campfire. I also worry about her walking home from school by herself. I worry she will be kidnapped or cross the street and get hit by a car.....etc

I broke my foot in November and had 4 screws put in, so now I fear doormats because my foot turned off the doormat and caused this nightmare. Literally when I walk out the back or front door I will not step on the doormat. The mat I broke my foot with was thick and I replaced it with the thinnest
one I could find. PTSD of doormats go figure.

Oh NO!! I am so sorry! The most mundane things can be SO dangerous, you just never know, evil doormats!:worried: I just have the one screw, doctor doesn't know how I broke both my 5th metatarsals clear in half, but my Mom says I was probably just a weak sperm :sad2:

I refuse to ever have an MRI without sedation again. Still traumatized by my first experience. Triggered a bad long spell with claustrophobia.

SO interesting, I find getting MRIs very comforting, from the 1st galloping noises until the big hammers come on, Im like in a vibrating noisy womb. Then every so often the angelic voice of a nice nurse tells me it's all okay:laughing:

I would not call them fears, but I can't ride things that spin as I'll get very sick in the stomach. I'm not afraid though, I just don't want to feel sick. While I'm not afraid of heights, I would not care to parachute or bungee jump. But I'm not what I would call afraid.

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Mine was my 5th metatarsal too, a spiral fracture.
You broke both???:scared1::scared1: I'm so sorry.

Oh please don't be sorry for me, it was just over a decade ago when I was still in college so I could handle the crutches, and then the wheelchair for campus use, and all my friends LOVED the 3 month handicap sticker...I played that card well! The right foot is still broken though, I'll get it fixed "someday" :sad2: But it doesn't bother me as much :) Happy to meet a 5th metatarsal friend

I'm right there with the spiders. I've gotten a little better, my freak-out level is proportional to the size/type of the spider now instead of just complete freak-out even for daddy long legs. I still won't get anywhere near them, but at least I don't scream and run the other way unless they're big or ugly.

I'm with you on the fear of bridges over water! I don't like to drive over them or be a passenger, but at least if I'm the driver I can control the speed and get over them faster. I blame the Loma Prieta earthquake in '89 and the upper deck of the Bay Bridge falling onto the lower deck. :scared:

I am very claustrophobic. One time at bedtime, my dad tucked me in too tight, and it sent me into hysterics!

And worms. *shudder*

Trap me in an enclosed space full of worms and I probably would not survive....

The Dentist! (Probably the most feared profession!). Mine was horrible when I was little. He didn't use novacaine. I get jumpy sitting in the waiting room even when it's just my kids appointment.
Over passes/fly overs. Nope. I close my eyes. Obviously I don't drive on them but I think we are going to go flying off and landing on the cars below.
Flying, although I am forcing myself now. Anything where there is the slightest possibility I could die (these are irrational fears remember)
