My daughter's boyfriend broke up with her

This is so hard! We went through this last Christmas with DD18. She & her BF had been dating almost a year when he suddenly broke up with her the night before finals (grrrr...) Even though they are only in HS and she knew that this was not going to be "the one", she was devastated. She felt so rejected. It didn't help that our family was going through a crisis with Christian fracturing his hip and it was right at Christmas. DD was really sad and teary. About all I could do was let her talk, tell her we loved her, and validate her feelings. We never said anything about the ex-BF--he really is a nice boy, but you know? This is high school.

DD thought she would just not date anyone before she goes off to college. But time heals all wounds, I guess. She dated a skater-dood briefly. Then we went on a cruise and she had 2 boys sending her flowers and escorting her to the teen activities, so I guess she's back in the saddle.

OP, I know this isn't exactly the same thing, but the feelings are similar. First love is a powerful thing and it hurts badly when you feel rejected. As a mom, it felt just as bad to me--how DARE he reject my daughter, my perfectly wonderful beautiful daughter! I really had to bite my tongue, but I never said a bad word toward the boy. And who knows how it will turn out? I don't want to say anything that might come back to bite me.
