This is from our September trip two years ago. The safari was pretty normal until we got to the lions. Right as we were passing, something metal fell off our truck and startled the lions, who had been sleeping on the rock like they normally do in the morning. They got up to check us out and here's the view we had for what felt like a really long time:IMG_0224.JPG

The lions are my favorite part of one of my favorite rides, so I felt like I got so lucky!

I can't remember when it was but on one of my trips Mr. Lion sat up and roared right when the driver stopped the bus. We all just sat there in awe, the driver said that was the first time that had happened for her.
That is so cool!!! What time of day was that? Before cutting my last trip short because of Irma, I had planned to try the safari in the evening because I hear the lions are more active then.

Too cute!! We always catch them during nap time! (which is at all times of the day!) LOL! But as a cat mom,I know that's what cats do most of the day!

Early morning right when the ride opened. I have also been on it in the middle of the afternoon and they have been sitting up and moving around but that in December when it was cooler out.

We did an early morning safari last spring, it was the most animal-active ride we ever had.

Very cool! I enjoy very early in the morning and late at night the best. Our last trip, probably 3rd truck out during AM EMH, all the animals were active, the lion was roaring and cheetahs were moving around a lot. We also got on the last truck of the day and the hippos were talking to each other and the lionesses were chasing each other around the rocks and jumping all the way to the top.

Our last time on the safari was last spring. It was dusk and all of the animals were out and moving around. The best part was the male lion and one of the females were on top of Pride Rock having a little fun. Some of the parents on the safari truck were having a heart attack, covering their kids eyes. It was beautiful.

Look kids, it the Circle of Life!

Our family likes to call these events "Discovery Channel Moments."

Last September we went first thing at rope drop. We saw the lions full on sleep mode, then turned past their area when apparently they had woken up and started to roar the guide stopped the truck and said "Guys listen to that, I am so excited this is my first time hearing this" our guide was just as excited as we were. He later said that he wished we could have seen them roaring but being able to hear it was still a treat. It was a great memory from last trip.

They are so cute, out of all the years we been going to Disney. This trip this year was our first time seeing the lions up, it was a really cool experience

Beautiful photo!

I wonder what the lions are thinking. Do you suppose they're looking at your truck and thinking, "hey, there's a truckload of humans! Maybe we should see if they have any snacks..."

My daughter's favorite animal is a cheetah. We rode in January 2014 as the last ride of the day. The ride was a complete bust because most of the animals had already gone backstage. No giraffes, no elephants, etc. But when we got to the cheetah it ran down the hill and put it's front paws on a rock and stood looking at us sideways so you could see the entire cheetah up close. It was right up front in the enclosure. Our driver had never seen a cheetah do that. She said they almost always stay up by the trees in back. It was the best safari ever since it is my daughters favorite animal.

That happened with me once, first thing in the morning! The driver was totally geeking out because it was so rare, haha. It was awesome!
