...is probably the ONLY child that you can take down to any toy aisle in any store , and his response is just 'meh'. lol

Today is my ds's 8th Birthday, and last week my dh and I went to buy him presents. Now, with most kids that is an easy task, as kids this age usually like the $20 cheap plastic toy de jour that's being advertised on TV.

Not my son though.. lol What did we end up getting our son? Nope, not hot wheels, action figures or video games.. Our son wants book supply making stuff. lol :rotfl: He LOVES making and writing books. We got him a fancy stapler , craft paper, and illustrator-type markers. I know when I was a kid, I would be HIGHLY offended by a gift of office supplies. :rotfl2:

:lmao:It is great that he is such an individual:thumbsup2

The year DD turned 10 (her birthday is the day after Christmas so lots of shopping all at once) the ONLY things she could think of that she wanted to give all of the family as hints were a seal and sealing wax and fancy paper. It hunted all over new hamsphire for a darned seal, but I finally found some at a stationary store in Portsmouth--I should have gone online. Anyway, I feel your pain.

Ohh, it gets better. He received a DSI from my dmil last year for Christmas.. What does he do with it? No, he doesn't spend hours on it playing games like a 'normal' child. He records himself singing and playing the drums. lol He took it with us on our trip to the UP last month to listen to his recordings, and I told him "You know, don't get me wrong but I *THINK* those recorders also play video games too." lol :cloud9:

yeah, I have a DS11 and a DD13 who both refuse to own gaming systems. They think they are "boring" and DS thinks it is "annoying" that everyone else is always on them:confused3 I finally broke down and bought a Wii because I wanted it:rotfl2: They do play Rock Band with me because they like music but only if we do not do any of the score keeping stuff and just play.

Seems our kids got the same genetic mutations:lmao:

 Yeah, it sounds like you've got a real Right Brain there. My DD17 was like that when she was young. The Christmas she was 8 she made a general announcement that she did NOT want any dolls or toys for Christmas, only craft supplies. :confused3 She loved to make things out of things. So she received from various people: a stack of colored felts, balls of yarn, glitter glue, chennielles, playdoh maker, scotch tape, markers, and BURLAP(!) and a darning needle. And she was happy as a clam. She's 17 now and she still loves to get painting& craft supplies as presents.

My DD7 loves her AG doll and DS games, but she would be thrilled with a big pile of craft supplies! When she was about 4, one of my friends asked her what she wanted for her birthday. Her response, "Envelopes, because Mommy only lets me have one each day." :rotfl: It was an ongoing battle at our house because my envelopes were always disappearing. So my friend bought her about 600 envelopes of different colors, sizes, etc. DD was in heaven and happily stuffed notes and scraps of paper for weeks.

my ds16 was exactly like the OP's ds when he was younger. Take him to the store to pick out birthday or Christmas wishlist stuff- where most kids would have a list a mile long, my ds had no clue what he wanted. He truly never asked for anything, and if asked what he wanted, he had no idea. Made shopping very difficult because he also expected stuff under the tree or wrapped for his birthday. His only comment was "NO CLOTHES!". Now he's almost 17 and has long since outgrown that stage. Now he won't hesitate to tell you he wants a car, money, and clothes lol!

Your kid sounds like a cool kid :) Tell him Happy Birthday from Freyja in Iceland :)

Our son wants book supply making stuff. lol :rotfl: He LOVES making and writing books.

That is SO cool!! You may have an author or a magazine editor in-the-making. As an avid reader and book-lover myself, I think that's AWESOME!!

My kids keep telling me they want toys for birthdays and Christmas, but when I ask them which ones they want, they can't name a thing.

My girls are 9 & 10 and they spend a lot of inside time playing "school" and doing craft projects.

Your not alone!!!!!

My son has never, ever, been into 'toys'.

Got bored with his WII and doesn't want any new games for it.

He does have a room full of expensive model tractors and equipment.
One thing he wanted for Christmas (and got) was a nice Stihl weed-eater.

Don't know if this is part of being not quite neurotypical, or what.
Most kids love games, toys, candy, soda, etc...
I guess my son gives me a lot to be thankful for!!!! :goodvibes

Nope, my kid has ALWAYS loved office and craft supplies as gifts. No dolls, no barbies, just anything that you can make stuff out of. She'll be 8 at the end of the month, and she told us she wants a guitar... That was quite the surprise!

Yep, her godmother is way into cute office supplies and always buys her a big box of colored cards, envelopes and gel pens etc. She loves it!

Well, my ds had a great birthday. His favorite presents? neon green Gel Pens and the Crayola paper cutter. lol I should get him some pinking sheers for Christmas. hehe:idea:

Haha, OP, sounds like a creative kid to me!

My dd was like that on her b-day this year and it was so frustrating trying to figure out what to get her! At Christmas she wanted EVERYTHING in sight...pretty much literally! She even wanted the "pretty flowers" she saw in a cemetary we passed!

But, a little over 4 months later, it was her 5th b-day and she didn't seem to want anything. It was like prying teeth to get her to give us a single suggestion. She is really into drawing, coloring, and things like that too so she did get a lot of office supply type stuff as well from my mom.

Dh and I (and little brother) got her a Fur real pet that she played with exactly once and some sand toys for the beach since we knew we were going in June and that was it. She is at the age where she's starting to get more into just playing with her brother or cousins or drawing. Toys are not as high priority to her anymore and she's only 5!

Christmas should be interesting this year!

your not alone...my dd4 does not touch her room full of toys...she just wants her coloring books and markers/crayons/play doe and she is happy!! all she wants when we go to the store is a new coloring book! she loves pplain paper also!
