He was looking for info on Saratoga (sp) which is what he bought. He says he got 290 pts/$20,000 with an $800 maint. fee/yearly.
He wants me to buy in to! Is this a set price from DVC?

Also, where can I find info to read online about the timeshare?

Thanks!

Lynn

I found this FAQ helpful.

The price per point for Saratoga Springs is set by Disney, while the resale prices for all the other resorts are around $15 per point cheaper, depending on the contract.

Maintenance fees change each year - usually upwards!! But only by a few cents per point.

Been looking at various threads about DVC as we are really interested in becoming members but have just seen this thread. What is the $800 ( thats £600 ) for ???, what period does it cover? is it for a 2 week period or longer as it seems quite high.

Steve

Hi Steve.

The annual maintenance fee is the annual charge made by DVC to pay for ongoing repairs, etc. for the resort - this is a usual feature of timeshare schemes - the actual cost depends on the number of points you own and at which resort. The $800 mentioned is for 290 points at Saratoga Springs resort.

Maintenace costs are currently approximately $4 per point, but this will vary slightly at each DVC resort.

is it for a 2 week period or longer
The actual time covered depends on a set of factors - size unit (studio, one, two or three bedroom) the time of year you visit and the resort at which you'll stay (not necessarily your home resort). 290 points could 'buy' you over three weeks in a studio in OKW in low season, but maybe only a weekend in a 3 bedroom at BWV over New year. That's the attraction of DVC for many of us - it's very versatile.

What is the $800 ( thats £600 ) for ???,
Actually thats just under £450 at the current exchange rate.
It covers as Hilary says replacement and repairs to furniature as well as buildings. It also covers the cost of the DVC resorts transportation budgets, which obviously in the case of the hotels is covered in your cash roomrate. The cost of Disney transportation is one of the factors which explain the relatively higher costs of Disney resorts.

Again as Hilary says, quite how much accommodation you get for your points is really up to you. For example I have 250 points, If I'm REALLY careful with them, go at the lowest cost time of year, don't mind checking out at weekends ( Friday and Saturdays cost 2.5 times as many points as weekdays) and stayed in the studio ( regular hotel room size) at Old Key West ( the cheapest resort for points) that would be enough points to provide accommodation for 31 nights, alternatively I could book a grand Villa at Christmas for like one and a half nights.
