My 'baby' started school - I miss her :(

Oh bless her,Hope today is a better day.
My DD had a good day,she too was quiet when we picked her up and insisted she "as no friends"..I'm praying she means that her usual friends from pre-school aren't there...I guess it's all a matter of adjusting it's a big step for these little feet. Let us know how your DD get's on today

Deb how on earth did A get old enough to start school? I hope today goes well and I'm sure she will love it! Ellie starts secondary tomorrow, can you believe that she can't wait but it'll be weird for me to have an empty house from 7.20am to 4.30pm everyday!!!

I know how you feel,i went through it with Dd8,and i just did'nt know what to do with myself ,i was pregnant with our 2nd child at this time so i was sort of kept busy with preparing for little ones arrival.But little one is 4 now and she starts full time Monday ,so will be going through it all again,but this time have no new bubba on the way to try and take my mind off of it .Dd8 seemed ready for full time,but Dd4 just seems to 'ickle' to me,and i don't feel ready to have a empty house all day yet either .x.

My niece stared year 1 today don't know where the time has gone. My sister dropped her off & in she went without saying goodbye, the teacher made my niece go back & say goodbye etc

they have given him a massive h/w pack to keep him occupied during the hols, so he has finally just finished that!

I am sure it will get better soon, when my DD first started school she came home sad a few days after as she didn't have any friends, she went to a day nursery and not one attached to the school and nearly all children went to the school nursery however she soon loved school and made her own little group of friends.

I think the first time they get "told off" is always a shock as they are not used to teachers giving directions etc so may think the teacher is angry at them when they are telling them to do something, my DD has come home upset after been told of from a teacher the first time which was a misunderstanding.

Hi Deb, i'm not a teacher but an early years worker in a childrens centre (foundation stage/nursery class is just one of the many things that goes on here so my job is pretty varied! ) I've done TA work in schools in the past though, particularly reception, and I agree with Clare that even getting spoken to a bit firmly by the teacher for the first time can be a bit scary especially combined with the nerves of a new environment and lots of new children... I'm sure she'll be fine once she's settled in

Hope today was a good one for all the little ones Mine went back today into year 1, year 4 and year 6. i dont know where the time is going and in a way this year was worse. i think last year Charlie needed me more going into reception, this morning he just strolled in, barely a goodbye and got on with it, i was a little teary. Dean made sure i said good bye from the gate, no walking round for himand Cara going into year 6 is just a head spin for me. i actually have to start looking at big schools for my baby
Needless to say they all had a brilliant day. i just thought it would be easier this year for me and as it turns out i think i get more upset the bigger they get

Our year 7 students start tomorrow. I always look at them and think 'you are someone's precious baby and they are probably worrying about you'. 99% of the time, there is nothing to worry about - those first week nerves soon disappear.

call the the those who can teach" number, they will give you loads of numbers of organisations locally that can help. i got about 20 numbers to call in the black country area. loads gave me the same info, but i did get onto the GTP which meant i didnt have to earn £6000pa while training

I started at my new school today- it was wierd, having come from a cutting edge school to a "norm" comp, very strange. my new boss said, "put all your experience and what you have learnt at old school, put a lid on it, and come down to our level!"

I've found that in early years the higher paid jobs are rare and tend to be done by those with many years of experience, however if you can get your foot in the door working for a council it's much better (job secuirty and benefits as well as pay) than working for a private company. We have a few teachers in our centre but most only work part time apart from the centre head and deputy, all of whom have worked there for a long time and will probably stay til they retire. Although i'm a graduate my role could be done by someone qualified to NVQ 3, this applies to quite a lot of us in the centre come to think of it! Family support is probably one of the better paid roles but it can be very emotionally demanding and you do lose some of that 'hands on' time with the children. I've thrown around the idea of getting QTS but i'm really enjoying my current job and don't want to leave. Also, I know so many unemployed NQTs who want to work in early years and are now doing TA and nursery nurse work so they don't have to be on the dole.

to all of you who are missing your little ones that have started "big school".

My youngest is 4 in two weeks, had she been born six weeks earlier she would be starting school part time this October leading to full time in Jan. This has made me realise that I must make the most of this coming year with her, she only goes to pre-school a few sessions a week as I miss her so much when she is there I see this 1-2-1 time with her now as the same as the time I had with my eldest as a newborn

Eldest goes back to year 2 on Monday and I "mourned" for about six months when she started school, I'm such a softie

I just wanted to come back to this thread to say thank you SO much to everyone for all the support and replies. I've been really sick with the flu for the last week so didn't get a chance to come back again before now and I left lots of posts unanswered.

I don't know if it's swine flu or not. It keeps getting better and then getting worse - using inhalers now cause this cough won't go away.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks again in case you all thought I couldn't be bothered replying. I hate when people do that myself.

DD is getting on great - better than we ever imagined. She loves it. And DS12 is getting on well in secondary too - he's so shy it's gonna take a while to make friends but I know it'll happen. Main thing is he's fine going in there every day.

Well scrap the "it's going fine",DD as decided she does not like going to school..so the past few mornings have been a complete nightmare,she has had complete melt downs soon as we leave the house,I'm trying everything with her..just hope she settles down..fingers crossed.

Aw Beth I'm sorry to hear that. I wonder what's behind it all. Could be tiredness or maybe she's finding it hard to bond with the kids there. If it's a friends issues, could you talk to the teacher and ask her to maybe pair your dd with someone for play time, so she'd at least have someone to play with? Or I wonder would they let you take her out early a few days, just while she's getting adjusted to school? I know that when my friend's daughter was having trouble, they let her stay for just one hour, then two, etc. It depends on the school I suppose. Could she bring a favourite toy with her?

I bought a necklace for DD with an angel on it. I told her it's magic, that if she's lonesome or worried just rub the angel and I'll (magically!) know that she's rubbing it and I'll be thinking of her. Yeah, I sound mental, lol!! But it really does bring some comfort.

My youngest DD started year 1 last week and although we've now had a full year at school she's not a great lover of going. It's not that there's anything she doesn't actually like but she just doesn't care for school. I'm afraid I've always told both DDs (the other is in Year 2) that if they don't go Mummy has to go to prison as it's the law that children must go to school. So far this has worked as we've always talked about rules/laws etc but I'm dreading the day they decided they no longer like Mummy and she can "just go spend some time in jail!"
