My "Aunt" through marriage has been diagnosed with lung cancer, and today was rushed to the ER. Waiting on news.

She tried to keep us all in the dark, as her sister (my late MIL) passed 10 ten years ago from the same type of cancer. Sadly, we had to find out this way today, when her daughter needed some help convincing her to go to the ER. She was to start Chemo this week, it is inoperable, and has spread to other areas. The news is bleak as per the oncologist.

The family is in a little shock, but we will all pull through. I love this woman dearly, very dearly. We have a great relationship. She is very special to me.

If you can also keep her in your prayers and/or thoughts it would be appreciated. Thank You.:grouphug:

Most definitely keeping your aunt in my prayers today. Sorry you had to find out the news so suddenly like this.

Thank You.:grouphug:

Well, we have some more news. It has spread to the brain, ribcage, and I believe the bones. She has someone with her 24/7 as she is extremely dizzy with eyesight problems due to the location in the brain.:sad1:

She was allowed to go home today, and I am almost certain she will not go through with any type of chemo or radiation. She was given one year today at best with the chemo. Her daughter is looking into hospice or help in homecare, as she must work. Her other sister is the one with her 24/7, but quite honestly I am not sure how long she can keep up.

I have broken the news to my children, as they also are extremely close to her. I did not want to lie to them, or them to learn of this from someone else. They don't remember going through this with their grandmother, as they were 2 and 5, and I am forever thankful for that. My daughter who is 12, said "Mom, she is going to die isn't she".

I can only hope for her not to endure too much pain.

I am so sorry to hear that news is bleak, it must be a terrible shock for your whole family.
Breaking news like this to children is never easy but I think it is important for them to know the truth so that they have time to digest the information.

I hope your family is able to get the support services your Aunt needs.

Ughhh. Cancer is so ugly. I'm so sorry that she has to live (and die) with this. I sure hope that there is a cure for cancers in my lifetime. Nobody should have to go through this.

:grouphug:.
Sounds rough. Make sure you take care of yourself. Too often, we forget to take care of ouselves when we care for someone else.

I'm so sorry to hear this :hug: I've lost too many family members to cancer, it is a horrible thing to deal with. Sending you prayers for strength at this time. You were right to tell the kids the truth, it would be worse if it came as a shock to them later on.

Thanks everyone.:grouphug:

I apologize for not really being around the boards either, but everyone is always in my thoughts.:flower3:

There is no treatment plan. She is palliative at home. I am now taking care of my cousin's children who are 5 (autistic) and 9 after school. I bring them home to their house around 8 for bath and bed. I honestly forgot how tiring it is, as mine are not that much older, but not dependent if you know what I mean. I am glad to be doing something to help.

To be honest, I'm always on the community board, sorry if I miss what goes on here. You are doing a wonderful thing helping your cousins :thumbsup2

I am sure your aunt and cousin appreciate the support you are giving them during this difficult time.
Don't forget to schedule some time for you to put your feet up and have a rest.

I am very sorry to hear this. I lost my aunt in January, and we just lost my uncle, her husband, in September. I hope you and your family are doing well during this trying time. You have my sympathy.

I received a phone call this morning from my cousin. My Aunt has caught Pneumonia and has a few days or a week at best to live.

I just can't believe the drastic change a week has made. Last week she was eating lemon pie I made for her and talking.

Nurses are at her home spending the night tonight. I will speak to my children after school to see if they would like a visit. That is going to be so difficult to do, in just letting them know how grave it is, and how little time is left. Tomorrow DH and I are due to go before he works the afternoon shift. Praying she makes it until then.

I have been told she is not suffering at this time..

Thanks Everyone.

 so sorry for your loss.

Prayers for Gods peace and comfort in the days ahead.

I am so sorry for your loss  I can't hear the word cancer anymore - I am starting to think that everyone gets it now :sad2:

wow-I wasn't expecting to hear this so fast. I'm so sorry for your loss. It is never easy-and even harder around the holidays.

Thank-You :grouphug:

I was able to spend a few hours with her last night. The nurse did say she probably would not make the night. She passed at 6:35 this morning. I went over prior to the funeral home arriving. I'm not sure it was my best decision, but my cousin called several times asking, and I went for moral support.

It was incredibly fast. I am thankful she is no longer suffering, but the image of her daughter (29, and an only) weeping is forever in my mind tonight. My son is 15, and quite strong. My daughter is 12, and she seems to be having difficulty. We will all rally and stick together.
