I just love your pics of the day. This one bums me out though because I haven't seen it in years and when I go (Sept), it's never open. :(

Ah well...it brings back memories...

CoP is one of my all-time favs...a real classic. I hope that it is open when we are there in December!

<<--------------has his fingers crossed!!!!

This is one of my favs too, but I'm a fan of the original song....

"Now is the time. Now is the best time. Now is the best time of our lives....."

Actually "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" is the original song from when COP opened at the 1964 NY Worlds Fair. In 1975 when COP moved to WDW after its 6 year run at DL, they updated some of the scenes and the Sherman Brothers wrote "Now is The Time" to update it a bit. "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" went back in in 1993 when the new Tomorrowland opened at WDW.

I know that it isn't the original but it will always be my favorite. Now is the time, Now is the best time..da da da da, da da da da!

Has anyone seen CoP at all 3 of its locations? I know how the attraction at WDW differs from when it was at DL, but how was it different at the World's Fair - or was the DL version identical to the World's Fair?

For those that did not see the DL version - the first theater (loading area) where there is now some draperies and a CoP logo - the entire wall was a "color organ" - lights that pulsed to the music and a narrative about "progress". In the exit area drapery area the stage area was the same height as the floor. Guests emptied into the stage area and exited up an escalator to the 2nd floor...where the "city of the future" - now seen on the TTA...was fully animated and narrated by the CoP "family" explaining how progress has given time to travel and enjoy life.

Laura... thank you so much for putting together such a wonderful website. I found it through another Disney board long before I found Disboards and it has been of great help in choosing a resort! I'm so glad I saw you on this board so I can finally thank you. I wonder why I assumed you were a male?.... LOL!

DisneyOwl-
Carousel of Progress is similar to Hall of Presidents in that you sit in theater seats for a presentation by "automated people". (I don't have a clue if "automated" is the right word, maybe "mechanical" is better.) The seats actually rotate around the stage in timed intervals which allows you to see different sets of "typical" life in America through periods of history. (I believe its the turn of the century, about 1925, 1950 or so, and then the last which approximates today or the "near" future.)
My description does not do justice ... my family really enjoyed it!!! I had never seen it before last week because it was not in operation on our previous three trips. When I had asked about it in March of 2003 the CM told me it only opened in the peak attendance times because not many people seemed to enjoy it. We loved it!!

Thanks so much for the compliments. I just updated my site with pix from our trip last month. There are over 4000 pix now. :teeth:

We all love the Carousel of Progress. Luckily, it is usually open when we go. We never miss it. Rumour has it that...there is room to add one more scene. I really don't know if this is true or not though!

So cool! We took our ride on "COP" on our first trip to WDW in Jan. 1998. Its never been open since on any of our other trips.:(
I was hoping it would be open last Sept. when I took my mom for her first trip but alas.... no....:(

Our whole family loves COP.I can't imagine WDW without it ! Does anyone know if there's a COP pin ?? Everytime I go I always look for one.And if not, why not ?

I'd really like to see this. Will it be open in January when we are there?? We'll be there ove MLK.

Not sure-- but when we were there in Jan. 1998 it was open and we were there over MLK. I don't know if it was open all the time back then or just as a crowd overflow like now.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks for the pictures! I can't get that song out of my head now, There's a great big beautiful tomorrow...............

We are specifically leaving 2 days early to catch COP before it closes for the season. We saw it last year and i was just smitten!

We had 3 generations with us as we were watching it and it brought back great memories for Grandmom. She ended up answering all the questions the kids had over lunch. They were so interested to know if that was what life was like for her and her parents. COP ended up being a great lesson for them.

I now use it as an example when trying to explain to DS how good he's got it. (kind of like the old " i used to have to walk 5 miles to school, uphill, bothways" speach.)
