My argument against DVC

"resorts in general" means "resorts here on planet Earth", not "resorts in the rest of Walt Disney World."

Strange as it may seem, some people vacation in places other than orlando... ;)

Thanks for clarifying Dean. I read your post a few times because I couldn’t figure out how it could be as you stated. Now I understand the point you were making.

Do DVC members have less access through CRO? I know you and I discussed this in detail on a different thread. I remember the discussion concluding with us agreeing we don’t know if there are restrictions. Some say yes…Disney says no. It is probably best we don’t get into that discussion again?

That being said, DVC members do have as much access to CRO as the general public. They just need to book it through the CRO. Or find someone to exchange through a CRO booking. IMO you don’t have less access as a DVC member.
II and RCI simply don't let you know how they restrict things. To them it's an industry secret. DVC members do have less access through RCI though. They can't trade to other DVC resorts through RCI and there are significant restrictions on both how and what they can trade for through RCI. In addition, DVC members lose out on many other valuable options of an exchange company membership just like they did in II. Plus as I pointed out above, non DVC RCI members have access to DVC weeks that were, at most, available at the 11 month window to owners at those resorts but not to other DVC members. I personally have no problem with this but it is reality.

And there is quite a following of people that truly prefer to stay at none DVC resorts in Orlando even if they have the option of DVC resorts.

If one is buying into DVC to use as a timeshare other than Disney they may want to rethink that decision.

As one who travels to places other than Orlando I can attest other timeshares are more useful in those situations. But my experience as a whole with timeshares has led me to my current conclusion. DVC offers certain benefits that motivated me to join while a current owner in another timeshare. I consider myself fortunate I don't have to chose between DVC or another timeshare. IMO, those who are Disney lovers and plan on regular vacations to Orlando should be considering DVC as one of their options.

DVC is a specialty timeshare that is a great choice for some who value staying on DVC property, no more and no less. The question comes down to which of those is it truly a great choice for.
