My 7 Month Vacation as a WDW Intern: MINI UPDATE 12/10

Glad you got the shoes already.

Thanks!! It was a battle, but I think I won!!!!

I have been enjoying your TRs. It is nice to see you are pursuing your dreams. Don't Stop!!!!!!

You may want to seriously want to consider some mid high hiking boots (not backpacking boots, yes there is a difference) I would recommend you look into Merrell or Vasque boots. Yes they cost a bit more, but the support for your feet on long shifts will be better than an off brand.

Check out REI. No, I do not work for REI

I have a pair of Merrell's and I love them for walking around WDW they get a little warm. Also make sure you pay attention to the socks you wear with them. Socks will make a big difference with how comtrable ant hiking boots will be.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your second round.

Mossy

Thanks for advice. Seeing as I only saw timberlands, sketchers, and eastland in the stores, I'm assuming I can look at these brands online? My mom also told me to try L.L. Bean and they are usually shipped within 2 days and are long lasting shoes so we shall see! Thanks for the help!

We are going to Idlewild in a few weeks! DD is 2 and I think she will really enjoy it now! That's great you were able to get into KW and SC. I haven't been to SC in years!

I was just at South Hills Village Macy's yesterday getting perfume samples! It's a small world! I go to Ross Park if I need Pottery Barn or H&M. By the way...the Disney Store at South Hills is staying open!!! So when you are home and need a Disney fix you can get it :thumbsup2

It does seem the WL is a popular Pittsburgh thing! It is defininitely our favorite resort with Poly running a close second!

We will be back to WDW in September so hopefully I can say a quick hello to you at the AK.

Sounds like you have your hands full with the shoe situation. I can totally understand not being able to find boots here! I needed to find a new bathing suit for DD in February to go to WDW and I ended up buying it there because there were none to be found here!

Take care and keep on updating us! :goodvibes

Yes, I love to shop but not for something so specific lol. It must be men running this program haha. We also enjoy Poly. I would say that is also our close 2nd but with the price difference, that is why it is 2nd lol. I hope to see you on your upcoming trip!

Love your calendars/decorations...very cute!! Where did you get all those Disney stamps? I am into scrapbooking too and I love those!

Our Disney Store is closing too :( I'm going to have to try to get out to the mall sometime before it closes to see if there's anything good.

16 days, that is soooo soon!

I usually get everything at Michaels. I have gotten some supplies at walmart but as far as the stamps and quotes, I get all those things at Michaels..my bill was $92.00...but I figure that for multiple scrapbooks for my trip, CP, and PI. lol.

Hi! I found your cp tr and i read the whole thing through in like 3 days. Now im moving on to this one. Congratulations on getting the PI. That's really exciting. Me and my family are going down in August so if i see you i'll definitely sat hi! :goodvibes

Thanks for reading, I hope you can make it over to say hi!

Megan, you may want to see if you can get a discount for a short Disney cruise. It's a whole other side of Disney that I am sure you would enjoy. Very magical. It may be nearly impossible to get 3 days off in a row, but I thought I'd mention it for your list of Disney-to-do's.

Congratulations on the new job. From reading, I think you will be successful in whatever you undertake.

Thanks for reading again!! I would LOVE to go on a Disney Cruise. You have to be with the company for 3 months before you get that discount. The discount ends up being like $75 off and you can only go on their select days and the select rooms they have so I'm sure they do that as a plot bc unless you are a manager or have been with the company long enough to build up vacation, I'm guessing it's hard to take one :( Thanks for the option though, It's always in the back of my mind. I think my mom and I will go on a cruise one of these days (dad wants nothing to do with them).

Your calendars and door tags are a great idea and sooo cute! :cutie: Sounds like the disney shoe sitch is a pain, but I'm glad you were able to get yours ahead of time for your PI! :)

Thanks for reading! I made the same tags for my CP door so I figured I would carry on the tradition. They are very simple to make and I have enough time on my hands that I can make crafty things like that!

there really isn't a specific job dealing with your sons major as a CP. As a CP..I hate to say it, but you are basically at the bottom of the food chain. Unless you're really lucky to get some of the higher up jobs (like BBB bc we were highest paid and got tips) you will prolly be running a ride, working fast food, in a store, lifeguard if you get certified, etc.

After you do your CP or if you are lucky enough first time around and apply for a PI that is when they get more specific and deal more with your major.

As a CP I was lucky enough to get into BBB where I go to spend one on one time with girls and boys for longer periods of time than loading them on a ride for example.

As a PI I will be actually in the field "teaching" things that I would be presenting in a classroom which would lead more into my teaching degree from college.

PIs are more "detailed" as I would describe them. For example, my one roommate is business and she got a PI as DTD manager at a store. Another roommate of mine was voice/music teaching major and she audtioned for different performing groups throughout the parks. Another roomie is going into some sort of hospitality field and got guest services at MK. As you can see they are more "higher up" jobs than just what a normal CP does. There were a few higher up CP jobs..one of them being BBB and maybe character drawing or something like that related.

If your son feels like he would want some that would apply more to his major as opposed to starting out at the bottom like I did, have him take a look at the PI website..just google Disney Professional Internships and it will be the first link or so.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for the feedback. I really hope he may show some interest. It would give me and the family a reason to visit WDW!

My daughter plans to try for a CP while her boyfriend is on his mission for our church, to keep her busy. I think it's wonderful to do a variety of things while you are young. You can being boring when you are old--OR maybe, better yet, keep having experiences your whole life!

I am seriously thinking of trying to get a job at Disney. My husband was an executive who was recently laid off from a major corporation (you met him, kinda, Megan) and we are so tempted to move to Florida, simplify and live out some of our dreams. Life is so short, and it should be embraced whole-heartedly.

I think it's great you are taking risks, gaining experiences, keeping to-do lists. Always taking the safe route and not following whims makes for a dull life.

Megan,

Just wanted to thank you for an enjoyable Sunday afternoon reading through your CP report. It was nice to live through your experience and your reports were great. I am now subscribed for this one and look forward to hearing about the internship. I have a college age son and will be secretly trying to nudge to do the CP. He is a Physics/Chem double major. Do you think he would get anything out of the experience? Did you meet any fellow CPers that had hard science majors?

Keep up the great report,
Rick:) :)
like Megan said, it is doubtful he will find something related to his career path for the CP, but he can still apply. There were folks from all walks of life and majors during my CP (fall 1996), English Lit, Art History, engineering, etc. We even had a 'non traditional' older student who was in their 50s, but in college, that did the program. Keep in mind, they do try and match based on experience- i had waited tables during college, so of course I got stuck in food service. If you have retail experience, they might stick you there. Very few first time CPers actually get a job related to their education or career path----they did do a special hospitality program for those majoring in that- they pretty much guaranteed you a resort related position. Other than that, you could be anything------2 of the 6 of my roommates were in food service (you cannot hold an actual waitressing position at a sit down place though), one was strollers at epcot, one was attractions at the Land, one was in characters (auditioned previously---they had auditions at only 2 schools out of the whole country and she was near one) and one was in a culinary program at Crystal palace, since that was her career path. 3 of my roomies stayed and never finished college-----one continues to work in entertainment to this day, 12 years later. Another continued the culinary path and another did everything from guest relations to attractions and finally settled in disney weddings and was a wedding planner for years until she just recently moved out of state. I still keep in touch with 4 out of my 5 roomies, even 12 years later, that tells you what a great experience it is and what a bond you form over a short time.

Megan- enjoying reading your journey and i am getting excited with and for you!!! i never did apply for an internship and i regret not doing so- i only had one class left to graduate when i did the WDWCP, and i had left behind my BF of 5 years (now my DH), so i felt the need to get back to all of that and graduate. I sometimes regret not pursuing the AI. But life takes you where you need to go in the end. It sounds like you have a great plan and goals written out which is great, another thing i regret is not doing more things while i was there. I seemed to dedicate every waking moment to disney and never got out to the beach, NASA or other things in the area. So enjoy!!!! i know you will.

the townhouse looks simply amazing!!! i totally understand your decision of NOT going with disney housing- looks like you got a much better deal with your own room too- which is so important given that you aren't a 19yo freshman doing the program for the first time.

can't wait to hear more. love the door tags and calendars!!! great ideas.

Another roommate of mine was voice/music teaching major and she audtioned for different performing groups throughout the parks.

Out of curiousity, what groups did she audition for and what group did she end up joining? I only ask since I am a vocal music ed major and am thinking of traveling down the "disney path" after graduation with the CP and hopefully beyond. :goodvibes Thanks!

Rick

Those are my families thoughts as well!!! When they came on my CP, the first time my Dbro came with DMom DDad and we did the whole parks thing from morning till nite and I was soooo tired by the end of it bc those were my 4 days off for the 2 weeks so I was hurting after that lol. Then just my parents came in April and we went to the beach and visited my aunt and uncle in Ellenton and pretty much relaxed which was nice too.

You should move to FL, it is never too late!! My dad thinks I might as well stay bc I have nothing holding me back but they also moved and they were already married with kids and jobs so I mean, never say never?

I love the pictures!!

Thanks! I hope Caseys is going well! I can't wait to eat some yummo hot dogs when I get back

Thanks for reading, your comments were very kind!!! I'm very excited about the house, the more I talk about it, the more I get excited about it. Just think, 2 weeks from now and I will be back..time flies!!!

Out of curiousity, what groups did she audition for and what group did she end up joining? I only ask since I am a vocal music ed major and am thinking of traveling down the "disney path" after graduation with the CP and hopefully beyond. :goodvibes Thanks!

The one for sure that I know she auditioned for was for the mini group at the American Pavillion before you see the show. She did not even get a call back for that one..she was sick that day we all felt horrible for her :(

She got a call back for another one right before we moved out on the 16th but I'm not sure what that one was for? I want to say maybe something to do with MK bc she was really excited about it.

I hear it is very hard bc for vocal majors in general, you have to be the best of the best since their slots are so limited :( I think she did apply for like school music programs and never heard anything about that.

For PIs, most PIs are either in their Junior or Senior years. There are very limited choices for recent grads so I guess you can say I'm very lucky!

Thanks for reading!

OMG! I never realized I was supposed to tip at BBB! All the BBB threads I read/skimmed ... it never once came to my attention that tipping was part of the deal! ACKK!!! I feel so bad.

For future reference, what kind of tip should I plan for? Thanks!

Oh, and I am really enjoying your TR!

Megan and Ex,

So as veteran CPer's I need to ask. After the 1st month or 6 weeks did the magic ever wear off and you realized you were really just doing a job and maybe a very mundane one at that? I imagine if someone 3 years into a degree headed down to FL with the best of intentions finds themselves 6 weeks into cleaning tables at a counter service 5 days a week that it must get depressing. I'm sure it's fun and all but did it ever get to you?

Thanks,
Rick:dance3:

Oh, that is fine! It is not required and it is if you feel that you should. FGIT can only accept cash tips and I'm not really sure what is a "normal" tip amount. I have gotten anywhere from $5-$20. I would say for a normal princess I would get around $5. I'm not really sure why you can't put a tip on your credit card or room charge but I know I can speak for my own family when I say we rarely carry cash with us at WDW bc we can just charge it all to the room. My mom might always carry a $20 just incase but we always either use room charge or credit card.

Rick:dance3:

To me, no. I think it might be all due to the fact that my job was "the best of the best". I can't say that I know what it is like cleaning tables, loading rides, and sellling merchandise in stores till 3am. My job was always pretty much set hours. I would work long shifts (13 hours) but I was never out of there past 7:30 or 8. I must say that I went to MK the most, mostly bc my roommates have not been to WDW as much as I have and partly bc I worked there so it was easy to escape there after work.

After being there for 5 months, I think my fav park now is Epcot. I could spend hours walking around there and it's just a beautiful park, especially with the flower and garden show.

As far as my roomies, I had one that worked at Pins and Club Cool and she "hated" going to Epcot after having worked there. I say "hated" because of course if the rest of us went, she would go, but she'd rather go to another park over Epcot. My other roomies always wanted to go to a park.

So I guess the answer to your question in my point of view is that I have never felt the magic was lost. It is totally different going to the park with your family than your friends but when I'm at a park and not working, I make the best of it and make it like my own vacation. I think the worst part that I had to get over was the fact that when we left the parks after playing, we didn't go to a resort, we went back to our apt..that took a month or so for me to get out of my head lol.

2 weeks to go!!!

I can't believe how quickly time has passed!

In 2 weeks, I'll be back in FL. My flight is very early...7:15am, yuck! My flight home was at 6am..I was up at 3:45am..yuck! I will be up somewhat the same time to head back because instead of being 20 mins from the airport like I was in FL, I'll be closer to an hour away and at Pittsburgh, you HAVE to be there 2 hours early no matter what time of day :( So I'll be heading out of my house by 4:15/4:30. I will be rolling out of bed around 4am. Yuck! I have to stop in Atlanta before heading down to Sarasota. My parents have arranged one of those limo cars to pick me up at the airport and take me to my aunt/uncles house since they will be in Ohio by then. After I get my car I'll then have to drive an hour and 1/2 up to Orlando.

I booked my hotel room last night. WDW must be very busy that week because our discount at a Value resort would be the same as me getting a deluxe room at a Courtyard Marriott. The fact that I'm not going to a park or anything park related, I figured, I'll save the hassle and just stay at the Marriott.

Right now, I can't wait to get back to FL. The weather today is in the low 70s I'm guessing and it is raining :( On my yahoo page, it says it's 91. It is crazy how my sleep patterns have changed since I have been home. When I was in FL, no matter if I worked 13 hours the day before, I was always up before 9am. No wonder though, the weather is always amazing and sunny and why not get up and get going! At home..I have been going to bed the same times that I did in FL but I'm sleeping in till 10:30 or later :scared1: At first, I needed to catch up on some needed sleep but now I just have no idea. I guess there is no point getting up when it's raining, cold, and you have no car lol.

I have been keeping busy the past few days. I thought since I have/had 4 weeks at home, it would be a good idea to clean out my room from top to bottom and throw away or donate my things. I cleaned the other day and I am having 5 bags sent to Goodwill of used clothes. I cleaned out my closets and my mom told me to stop bc the garbage man might not tall all the bags if I clean my entire room so the rest of the room has been put on hold till next week lol.

I took pics of all of this but photobucket is being very slow for me right now so hopefully I can get them posted by the end of the day.

You also saw all my pics from my first shopping trip. Bath & Body Works is having their summer sale.. needless to say I did some MAJOR damage in the store. I had already had my shopping bag filled until I went to check out and one of the girls noticed my body lotion "Coco Cabana" and asked if I saw the body splashes. I have LOVED this scent since high school and they never resold it like others and well needless to say they has the body splashes hidden in the bins and I bought 10 bottles at $2.75 lol. I came out of the mall having to hold the bag with 2 hands under it lol.

I'm also starting to pack some things up. I figured I would have plenty of space going back bc I came with all the gifts for mothers/fathers day and moms bday and some goodies for my brother. I was wrong.
You go shopping once and all that space you had is now gone..It doesn't help that I'm having to bring 2 pairs of not so light boots back with me :(
I keep praying I'm under that 50lb limit. When I came home, I was around 38/39 with both my bags so lets pray! lol.

Well, that is all I have for now. I finally photobucket to load my pics so as soon as they are all loaded, I'll have them to share.

I hope you are having a sunny day..I wish I was!

I loved reading about your experiences in the CP and now can't wait to hear more about your PI experiences. We are going to be in WDW June 28 - July 4. I will keep a lookout for you when we are in AK.

I have an idea for you on your packing that might help you stay under the weight limits. If you get too close to the limit look into getting a flat rate box from the post office. They cost $12.95 to send but you can pack upto 25 lbs in them. I used these to send stuff to my friend in Guam. They are a lifesaver when it comes to postage. These boxes may help with all of that stuff from Bath and Body.

I can't wait to hear more of you adventures and hope to see you in AK.

Wow! Time is really flying by. I'm so excited for you and your new adventure at Disney with the PI! I was also glad to hear that the magic wasn't lost on you during the CP. I always wondered if the allure would fade away after working there, but I guess it really does depend on what you do there and how much you love the job.

Good luck with the room clean out. Sounds like you are already on top of that pretty well. Now if worse comes to worse, you can always wear a pair of boots down so you don't weigh down your checked bags...or put a pair in your carry on. I hate the new fees and regulations with baggage-it makes me crazy! Can't wait to see those pics! popcorn::

Thanks so much for the advice!! I think that would be very wise for me to think about lol. I can have my mom send it the day that I fly back so that way in a few days I'll have it.

Thanks again for reading!!! I think I'll try and avoid the boots as much as possible. I have spent many a winter wearing boots and I would take summer any day over that but it did cross my mind although I don't think they would look too great with my gaucho pants and tank top lol.

You are probably wondering why my title is the way it is. I kind of like it because it builds for suspense!

Today, I headed back to my college where I graduated from last May. If you have ever been back to your college after graduation, it just never seems the same. Even though everything looks the same and the same staff is there, it will still never be the same and that's how I felt. Although it did bring back many memories of which I'm very lucky to have gone through. I must say I lived it up when I was in college and made the best of everything I was given. It even felt bittersweet because I looked up at my senior dorm and remembered standing outside of it crying the day we moved out after graduation. I also looked up and noticed the freshmen dorm beside the senior dorm and thought wow, it's been 5 years since I moved in!

It was bittersweet, but a part of me just felt so relieved to say that I was going back to WDW and moving on with my life.

So you are thinking, what is with the title?

Well, there's this story I have been thinking of for the past week and I thought I would share it with everyone. I'm not sure if I'm looking for advice, insight or what but I just figured I'd share a little Disney magic.

So for most people that come to WDW they are typically married and might have kids or starting out their family. How often does it happen that people meet at WDW and get married? The girl finds her Prince Charming and the guy finds his Princess.

Did I find my Prince Charming on my CP..I'd like to think not..but now I'm not so sure???

Let's just call him P.C. for Prince Charming. Basic history as much as possible. I began talking to PC from facebook before I left for my CP. He was going to be a CP at Epcot. I won't mention the exact title of the job..but at times, it is a messy one  As soon as he came to WDW in late Jan we talked online through AIM (instant messaging) and through text messages. He seemed like a pretty nice guy but at the time I was more focused on my job and hanging out with my roommates than finding a PC. Before I had even gone to WDW, I kept telling myself do not fall in love..you will be the hurt one in the end when you leave. I was doing soooo good at that..or so I thought. Always in the back of my mind I had the whole PC idea. I have read other TR or facebook accounts where CPs meet and end up having the Disney fairytale wedding and living happily ever after.

It was around early March when I met PC for the first time--He is 22 from a Midwest state *I'll withhold the state*. He had txted me on my tea (break). He said he was at MK and wanted to say hi to me. Well if you know MK BBB, it is very hard to try and have a conversation with someone bc we are such high volume. Anyways I was on chair 2 and happened to look up and I saw him standing there. I had just began a princess but he stood there and waited till I was done. Afterwards, I was able to chat for about 10 mins or so before leaving. After that we continued to talk..even more so I guess.

A few weeks later, I was txting him on my tea like I often did. I told him I wanted to play at Mk after work but it was raining. He said he wanted to go but w/no one to go with. We ended up meeting after I was done w/work and there was no rain! We spent about 4 hours at MK playin in the park. I ended up driving him back to Vista and that was the extent of day. I felt lucky to have a guy friend to talk to and to hang out with that was not a roomie of mine.

After our nite in the park, we talked even more so, if that is even possible? I soon became his "go-to" girl for his girl problems. He once told me there were 3 girls he was interested in but one was 18, one was leaving in May, and another that came in May didn't want a BF. So we'd talk about it and I was totally fine just being friends.

I would often stop at Epcot and say hi to him at work and he would pop into BBB and say hi as well. Well, this leads us to my last night as a CP. If you read my TR you can tell from the story that I was clearly upset that night. It was very hard to leave BBB. On my last tea I had made plans with PC to play in MK my last night to hang out before I left for home. We planned to meet at 8:15. After my major melt down at BBB after work, I got a msg from PC saying at 8:15 he just got home, wanted to shower, and still had to take the bus to MK. I told him just hold off and that I was upset and just wanted to go back to the apt. I felt horrible but I did not feel like playing. When I got back to Chatham he messaged me and said he and 2 co-workers from Epcot were going to see a movie at midnite and he wanted me to go. I evenutally declined and felt horrible AGAIN. I ended up spending the night hanging out wtih my roommates, cleaning, and packing.

I figured PC will always be there when I get back and we're just friends so what does it really matter? Or so I thought???

After being home a week and not hearing from PC at all, I finally txted him to see how he was doing. He moved into a new apt and changed jobs to MK attractions. I got a simple response "I'm doing fine, I hope you're doing well at home" I assumed he was either really busy with work or was still upset about the movie and MK.

I figured okay I'll just drop it until I get back in a few weeks. This past Thursday I woke up to this msg from PC " I'm sorry, but I miss u a whole lot right now. Please don't forget about me. Even if this sounds gay, I'm sorry but it's true, I miss ya"

I dropped my phone, I was shocked. My first reaction was, was he drunk? I got the msg at 3:30am but my phone has a very low signal and sometimes my msgs and voicemails are delayed. Anyways, I ended up writing a message back appologizing for my delayed response. I said I missed him too and that I can't wait to get back to FL. I didn't want to make it very specific w/o knowing the content of the msg. I asked other friends and they said a "friend" would not have sent a message like that.

After those msgs I sent back to him, I have gotten no responses. I sent him a message on aim and he briefly said he was good but had to go and signed off. I recently saw pictures on facebook with him and the "i dont want a bf girl" that he told me about. They were at P&PP. I'm starting to think the msg either was not meant for me, he was drunk, or I'm not sure what?

Basically, I'm at the point where, if nothing happens, I'll be okay. If it does happen, I'll deal with it then.

What do you think???

Sorry to write a novel but this has been kinda eating away at me for the past week and I was just looking for maybe someone that can explain the whole situation better haha. I've come to the decision to not contact him until I'm back in FL. I did txt him 2 days ago and asked if he was off the day I fly back if he wanted to go out to dinner or see a movie since I owe him now. No response.

Anyways, I'm open to suggestions or advice I guess haha.

And maybe, Just maybe, I'll have something unexpected to go back to?

Jellyd- I work in PO- merchandise, no the magic hasn't been lost for me. Sometimes honestly, I do think "Why am I here?" when I am at work and deal with a rude guest. But I think part of the reason I haven't lost the magic, is because I am at a resort with set hours, if I was working at one of the parks I might feel differently about it.

Megan- Boys are so strange. I wish I had some advice for you but I don't.

I think I'd let things go for the moment. Once you get to Florida I'd just text him letting him know your back and then leave the ball in his court. If he wants to persue things, then he'll definitely follow-up now that your close by. If not...well...then you have your answer. I agree with PP...men are strange! :confused3 I do hope things work out though. I'll keep my fingers crossed! ;)

I TOTALLY think he's interested. I am not sure he knew how to say anything else and wasn't ready to deal with saying good-bye before you left. Now, that you have left... he realizes jusrt how much a part of his life you were. As for why he hasn't messages back. Who knows... he IS a boy after all. ;)

I am keeping my fingers crossed! I love me a happy ending!
