Hi, our 2 1/2 yr old is really tall for her age. Do you think we'll have trouble getting her in the gate without a ticket? Should we take her birth certificate as proof? Anyone ever had a problem with this?

Thanks,
Heather

we went in 2006 with my then 2 1/2 yo. he has always looked very old for his age, never had that cute chubby baby thing going on. we had no problem at the gate.
just to give you of an idea just how old my son looks, here is a picture taken on valentines day, 1 month after his 2nd birthday

It has been my experience that you absolutely need a birth certificate for a lap baby. I thought lap babies had to be less than 2. Check with your airlines to verify eligible ages for lap babies and what documentation you will need. Make sure she is eligible for the return trip too.

I have never seen a CM refuse entry to a child. I have heard a couple of them sweetly ask "How old are you?" (and part of me wonders if they were trying to get the child to say, "Mommy told me to say I'm 2 but I'm really 3!") I think you'll be fine especially since your child *is* two. You're not trying to break any rules.

On other hand, if I were in the situation, I would make a photocopy of his birth certificate and just tuck it into your wallet. It's easy to do and would give you some peace of mind. I seriously doubt you'd be asked to show it, but I know (if I were in your situation) I would worry about it every time I went through the gates, and that would suck the fun out of the vacation. It's easier just to carry the proof!

My younger DD always looked a little older too, so we went to the BMV and got a legal I.D. that states her age, and we always took that with us. We were never asked to show it, people always believed us.:)

I would bring the birth certificate as a back-up. When my DD11 was 2, we had a CM at MK hold the line up and all but accused us of "cheating" Disney. Thank goodness that was the worst CM experience we have had while at WDW. But to save yourself some potential problems....bring it :thumbsup2 .

We went right before my dd turned three, and I just told each and every gate CM (before they could ask) that she was "under three" and they would open the gate right up - no problems. :)

I'd also bring a birth certificate just in case. We did that with DS1 on his third birthday trip (he turned 3 on the trip, so was 2 for the trip in Disney's eyes - but was already over 40" tall). We were only questioned once at the gate, but boy was that guy nasty!! He asked how old DS1 was, we replied "2" and he basically rolled his eyes and replied "yeah, right." He let us through, but I had the birth certificate ready to go if he wanted to discuss it further.

We traveled in June with a tall, very talkative 2.5 year old in our group. I never heard anyone question his age.

When we went to Disney way back in 1997, my DS had just turned 2 the month before. He was a very big boy for his age. He was 40 lbs. I was so worried about people not believing that he was only 2, I brought a copy of his birth cert.,but nobody ever questioned my on anything. It made me feel better having it though.

just so everyone knows, they cant ask for a birthcertificate ta the disney gates. it would have to be written somewhere if that were a requirement. its not like people can just run home and get them.
