We went on our first Disney Cruise in October 2011, The Disney Dream. It was just fabulous. I started my own trip report. But, my oldest son also made one as part of his homework. He presented it to his 4th grade class when he returned. It was so cute that I thought it might be nice to share here ... to give you a fun look at this cruise experience through a child's eyes. I may add a few notes here and there. And, if you can't read his handwriting, let me know and I'll do my best to translate!

The cruise made a huge impression on Ben. Doing the Fish Extender with the Disboards was a highlight for him and all the boys (I have three).

Here's our vacation video:

Mom's note: The Polynesian was fabulous. Gotta try the Dole Whips! And Tonga Toast. Ohanas was waaaaay too much food for our family of 5 to eat, and it was all cold by the time the kids got to it (so much fun to be had for kids in there). The electric water pageant and fireworks from the beach were a trip highlight!

The Disney Cruise Line Bus is much like the Magical Express. We got to port from Poly at 1 pm. ***The bus will not wait on you, so don't be late for your pick up! A family was behind us but wandered off and missed the bus! I'm sure Disney got them to port though.

Mom's note: They will announce you however you wish when you board the ship. We were announced as The Incredible Family! Boarding was a breeze. We had no trouble just using birth certificates.

BenTR8pb.jpg

Mom's note: Characters are all over the ship. If you see them and want a photo, get in line fast. The lines do get long fast, and they are cut after a certain number of people. You'll want to arrive early for the Sail Away party to get a good spot.

BenTR9pb.jpg

Mom's note: My kids LOVED LOVED LOVED the Midship detective agency. The paintings throughout the ship come to life and give them clues to solve crimes!

BenTR10pb.jpg

Mom's note: The Golden Mickeys was THE BEST part of the trip for me. I had heard on the Disboards that if you hang out near the large mural before the show, your kids may get interviewed on the red carpet! Then, the interview is shown live, inside on the big screens! I made my boys matching Golden Mickey shirts just for the occassion! The shows were all fabulous. ***If you can, sit up front and center in the theater, not under a balcony. Fun things - like confetti and bubbles - often fall from the ceiling!

BenTR11pb.jpg

Mom's note: The best part about our Nassau day was playing mini golf. Max showed up and played a round with just my boys! How neat is that?

BenTR12pb.jpg

Mom's note: We each rode the Aquaduck once. We stayed on the ship at Nassau hoping to make it an Aquaduck day with short lines. But, there was still a 30 minute wait. And yes, someone threw up on it which made our wait an hour. But, it was fun.

BenTR13pb.jpg

Mom's note: The boys LOVED the kids clubs. It was tough to get them out of there! They gave them bracelets that could not be removed the length of the cruise.

Mom's note: All the boys agreed, the stingrays were the BEST part of the trip. They were not afraid of the rays. They only got to feed twice each, but they got to pet every stingray that swam through the feeding area, which was a bunch. They also loved the snorkeling afterwards. Highly recommend this excursion.

BenTR16pb.jpg

Mom's note: Castaway Cay was beautiful, but crowded beaches. The kids only did Pelican Plunge once. The water was very cold. My youngest LOVED Spring a Leak pop jets. Best part for the kids was playing in the sand.

BenTR17pb.jpg

Mom's note: Pirate night was a blast! Get in line early for Captain Jack. It gets long fast. The kids loved that Mickey and friends saved the ship from Captain Hook. It was very windy on deck, so hold on to you hats!

BenTR18pb.jpg

Mom's note: The adults' favorite restaurant was Royal Palace, by a long shot.
I gained 7 pounds on the cruise! BUT ... the kids liked Animator's Palate best. Our servers were fantastic.

BenTR19pb.jpg

Mom's note: The Yacht Club was amazing. BUT, I switched resorts a handful of times before our trip. Couldn't decide! Afterwards I asked the kids if they liked Yacht Club Club Level or Polynesian (Samoa) best ... and they picked the Poly! They loved the Poly pool games and beach. At the Yacht Club, the older boys really enjoyed the pirate slide and whirling waters portion of the pool. My youngest liked the kiddie area at the base of the pirate slide. It did not find it difficult to keep track of my children here, which was a concern of mine when booking. *** Try the Kitchen Sink at Beaches and cream!!!

Mom's note: The Halloween party had the best Disney fireworks display I'd ever seen. It was very crowded, and despite all my planning, we missed the parade both times and were only able to get photographs with 2 characters. Did the kids mind? Not at all. We threw my schedule and plan out the window and just did what the kids wanted to do. Buses to and from Disney World from the Yacht Club were fast and not crowded. After the party it only took 17 minutes from exit to Yacht Club. ***I would NOT recommend doing Disney World AFTER a cruise to anyone. I was dizzy and felt the ship moving for well over a week after our cruise. Next time, we do Disney World FIRST!

I should add that although we were on the October 23-27 cruise, there were NO Halloween decorations or festivities at all.

Hi Ben, thanks so much for sharing your trip. You did a great job on your scrap book. I enjoyed it.

Loved it!! I featured some of the Disney World stuff in my state report I had to do in 5th grade (I did mine in Florida by the way).

One of the best trip reports I've ever read! Thank you for sharing it!

Great pictures and descriptions!

Way to go, Ben! :)

P.S.- The boys are adorable.

What a great scrapbook! So, I'm going to ask you what I asked another poster...Do you prefer the parks or the cruise?? (If you HAD to choose one). We went to WDW last year and are considering a cruise next time. We have 3 children ages 12, 8 & 5. They loved WDW, so I'm worried if we do the cruise, they will wish we had done the parks. Don't think we can swing both this trip. Which did your kids like better?? Thanks!!

Thanks for posting this, my kids loved to "see" it from another kid's perspective.

Where did you find all the great outfits the boys wore? They looked awesome in all your pics!

I enjoyed reading your trip report; I loved the golden mickey t-shirts you made for your boys!!! You are a great trip planner. I also agree with you - Do not go to WDW after the cruise; everything was still moving for me for a week. I almost went to the dr. because I couldn't stop the rocking. It finally stopped after almost 5 days after the cruise was over. We went to Hollywood Studios and Mk after our November cruise. We ran into crowds at the Magic Kingdom when we went due to the ABC Parade filming. It was so crowded we only rode 3 or 4 rides that day.

Mom and Ben

This has to be my favorite TR I have read. I love reading a kids perspective and Mom's notes added just the right amount of additional information.

To the person who asked did the kids like the cruise or the park: my kids have done DLR 1 time and we just did a cruise (during Christmas) to the Mexican Riviera. My kids said hands down the cruise. They are 8 and 9.

I would have to agree with the kids.

Thank you again Ben for you fantastic report, and I had no trouble with your writing.

Dianne

Glad your son(s) enjoyed it and I enjoyed his scrapbook. Very cool shirts you made!

I happened upon some journals at Target recently ($5 each) with 4 different Mickey covers so on our next cruise we'll all write things so we can look back on them one day (and so I won't forget things like I do, like our great servers name).

I'm going to try to get some more to give as gifts for our next trip!

Happy that you had fun!

Please PM me with info on where you got the "iron-ons" if they were that or how you made the t-shirts. I'd love to have shirts made for our next cruise and surprise my wife and kids.

My son and I read Ben's report!! We both loved it!!!! We leave in 20 days for our WDW and Dream Cruise trip and we might just have to add on the sting ray excursion after reading your report.

I loved their outfits!!!!!!!! Great job Mom!!!:thumbsup2
