MVMCP - Worth the Cost???

I had decided that we were going to pass on the MVMCP during our upcoming trip. Now Disney has announced an annual pass discount for our final night at Disney (what had been a "premium event" night) and I'm wondering whether I should take the plunge and spend the extra $200 to get tickets for the 4 of us.

My DDs are 7 and 10 and Magic Kingdom is not their favorite park. Is there anything really special about MVMCP that justifies the $200 price tag?

IMHO, no.

But if you think you and your DD's would like the parades, fireworks, relativly short lines for headliner rides and special character appearances (waits may be long), then perhaps you should consider it.

I agree with the PP, No its not worth it. The prices of the parties are getting out of control and they are having too many in December. 10 parties within 18 days. Just a few years ago I was paying $35 to get into the party and I got a free photo with it. Now all you get are long lines and shorten fireworks, no thanks. Another reason is that its not your girls favorite park.

I had a poor experience with MVMCP last year too. However, other people have posted that they had fun. It appears to depend on whether the event is sold out or not. If it is sold out (and it sounds like the fact that it will be if there is a discount being offerred), I would avoid it at all costs. The crowd was so intense you couldn't accomplish anything. You had to arrive at the event over an hour beforehand if you wanted to see it and even the 2nd parade was 3 deep around Main Street. Since your children are a little older, they may not be as intimidated by the crowd as my DD was at age 6, but trust me, there is no shortage of bad manners and rude behavior when people get frustrated after paying $50 and not being able to move.

I have read a few reports on this subject and as everyone else I have an opinion. FWIW, I am going to be there the 8th - 14th so there will be 3 parties during this time. I am heading down to orlando with my dbf and this is his first time for the holidays. I plan to do one day in epcot with the santas and one day at the stuidos for the osborne lights. But... in answer to your question we are going to 2 parties. I have been to a few of the extra parties over the years both christmas and halloween. I truely love them. I know I might be the minority here, but I planned my trip so I can do 2. I have an ap so I will get the discount, but even so part of the fun is the extra parties and all the characters and parades and lights. Sorry, this is just MY opinion. You just have to do what is best for you. If money is not a big issue go, then you will know for yourself. If money is an issue.. than skip it.

What's the cutoff for buying tickets using the AP discount? Can I wait until the day before the party and buy tickets using the AP discount?

We - me, DH, DD(13) and DS(11) - went last year on a busy night and it was miserable! We felt like we had wasted our money just to be so crowded that it was hard to walk, and the ride lines were not short in the least bit! Now maybe if you happen to go on a night that it's not sold out it might be better, but our experience was very bad, and my whole family normally loves the MK.

My vote is no. We're a family of six, and I can not justify spending that much money on a party.

I've gone a few times and agree, it's not worth the cost. If the tickets were $20, then maybe, but not for the price they are charging and that is WITH an AP or DVC discount. I posted today that they have now included more discounted dates for AP holders and DVC members. I guess it's getting harder and harder to push these tickets. As an AP holder, there's no value in going. Yes, the parade is nice, but that's it and hardly worth $50 pp to see a cool parade. As an AP holder, I can go and ride anything I want, so the ride portion has no value for us.

We have done both MNSSHP and MVMCP in the past along with the Princess and Pirate party. I just find the price to be excessive for what you get. We haven't been in about four years, and I doubt that we will ever go again. My favorite thing was the free photo, and now they don't even give you that.
