MVMCP *instead* of a day at MK?

My travel dates are Nov 27-Dec 1; on that Tuesday I was planning on doing MK in the morning, going back to the resort to chill for a while, and then returning to the park in the afternoon/early evening for the Christmas party. My question is this: would I be able to get a full Magic Kingdom "experience" just doing the party, and skipping the morning at MK? Since the MVMCP tickets are like buying another park ticket, the cost is getting kinda up there.

Since you can get in at 4:00 pm, I'd say yes. That's technically 8 hours of park time, plus the benefit of shorter ride lines during the party! Have fun!

oh, good points! I was just worried about missing out on rides and things, but that makes me feel better :)

I'm not saying don't do the party, but I don't think you've done your math. The cost of a 5-day ticket will be much cheaper than a 4-day ticket and a ticket to MVMCP and only slightly more than a 3-day plus the party ticket.

To clarify, I'd only be getting a 3 day park ticket-- traveling the first and last day so I will not be going to a park then, and one day at Universal.

Assuming you don't have an AP and it's a trip shorter than 5 or 6 days, then yes. At a certain point it just makes sense to add a day of tickets instead because the up charge is not nearly as much.

4-12 in MK with much of that being after dark with next to no wait definitely can replace a full day at MK. I personally wouldn't make it my ONLY MK day because it's my favorite park and I love the anticipation of rope drop there.

Do you mean a 3-day and a party ticket or a 2-day and a party ticket?

2-day is around $212
3-day is around $308
4-day is around $373

A party ticket will be right at $100. So either way you're thinking, the party plus park days will be more expensive. So it just depends on whether you WANT to do the party instead of a full day.

I think it really depends on what you are trying to accomplish on your MVMCP evening. If it is to experience all MK has to offer, IMHO, it's not enough time. If it's mainly to experience the MVMCP special events and a few rides, yes, you'll be fine.

If it comes down to cost, I would think about what is most important to you. Seeing as much of MK as possible or experiencing the party. If you would rather see more of MK, I would opt for an extra park day instead of the party ticket.

I was going to say exactly this. If you skip MK morning and do the MVMCP at night, you're going to get an amazing experience, but I don't think you're getting a full MK experience. During the party, you're going to want to be doing party things, presumably, and thus riding less. It just depends on what you want to get out of it.

We went to MNSSHP during a short trip in October and it was our only MK day. We entered the park right at 4 and left around 11:30. We got so much done!! I was worried about it being our only MK day, but most of the rides were walk on. We didn't feel like we missed out at all.

Those are really good points... I've been looking at the list of what rides were open during the party last year and it seems like all of the ones I want to go on are open, so that's good.

That sounds awesome! I was hoping I would have that experience with the Christmas party too...

From the financial aspect: Shaving off a park day does not equal the cost of a party ticket.
If you drop from a 6-day to a 5-day ticket, you are getting $20 back, compared to roughly $95 a party ticket.

From the time aspect, you get a decent amount of time, but you can easily spend all of it in character lines and watching the fireworks + parade.

i was wondering the same I currently have a 4 day ticket, arriving late Wednesday evening (10pm) so going to parks Thur-Sun and then departing late Monday.
Would it make sense to hang out at the hotel on party day and only go to the party then that would free a ticket to hit a park on Monday prior to a 7pm departure....

I hope that made sense..

We usually go for 8-9 days and don't get tickets on party day. Yes, even though it's only an extra $15 or so per person. That's still $60, and we will definitely be doing the party regardless. We go around 4-5, leave at midnight, and are always able to go on any of the rides we want, watch the parades and shows, and do some meet and greets. We spend the morning of relaxing, pool time, and get a nice late lunch at a table service restaurant at a resort, or do a table service breakfast at a resort and dinner in MK around 4-5.

We are planning to replace the Christmas party with our day at the Magic Kingdom. We go twice a year and our Christmas trip is more relaxed. We'll be there Dec. 17-22 at the beach club. I'm buying a two day park ticket for DHS and Epcot and one night for the Christmas party. It works better for our whole Christmas experience. And we want time to enjoy our resort without feeling rushed.

Yeah, that sounds a lot like what I was thinking, Kate-- get one day at Epcot, one at AK, then the Christmas party. It sounds like it'll work out well for me (and my mom, who is my traveling companion).

Did this with my best friend and it worked great. We had 2 days. We got 2 day one park tickets to do Food and Wine in Epcot and then tacked on MVMCP for the late afternoon/evening of Day 2 and we had a ball. We got FP for 4-7pm, did all the rides we wanted to in that time and the party, sans SDMT, walked on to Space a couple times, did HM a couple times as well as pirates- we even dined at BOG for dessert and drinks around 7pm because BOG was a dream restaurant for me and it provided a lovely break. (Crowds were huge from 4pm-7pm fyi.) We had SO much fun, it was the PERFECT way to top off a Disney trip! (We didn't even spend the whole night to be honest, we were exhausted so we left about 45 mins before the party ended but still felt it was 100% worth it.) (FWIW we're both from CA and had no idea if/when we'd be back to WDW.)
