MVMCP and Rain?

Years ago (maybe 7 or 8) we were there for MVMCP and it rained the WHOLE time! Well ... it was still wonderful and, yes, there was a parade. I can remember worrying about the wooden soldiers and how they might slip. I don't remember what they did about the fireworks. It was a steady, cold rain. BUT ... the hot cocoa and cookies helped tremendously! And the fact that Santa looked down at my DD, pointed and said, "Nice to see you!" is something we still talk about.
Have a great time!

It would be extremely rare for them to cancel MVMCP due to rain/storms. I would of said it wouldn't happen. However, 2 years ago there was reports by many DISER'S that one night it was so bad that they did issue refunds. Bring your rain gear and be prepared just in case.

Btw, WELCOME TO THE DIS!!!

I remember that night! It was a Thursday and it POURED! We had tickets for the next night's MVMCP and there were a lot of people there that were given vouchers for Friday night's MVMCP. I do remember them talking about how much confusion there was about the cancellation and getting refunds and vouchers due to the rain.

The Friday night MVMCP that year was PACKED!

Hope this year is better!!!

We were at that Thurs. MVMCP when it rained so much. And it was cold. We got vouchers for the Sun night MVMCP. They canceled the parade and fireworks that night.

We were at that party as well, and they cancelled the parade, the fireworks, and a few shows, but not the whole party. For those willing to put in the time and effort they did issue refunds, which I thought was nice.

We were at Disney during that time. Lucky for us our MVMCP was not at that night. It poured the night before, all day and that night. It was so bad there was water coming in our resort under the doors. They had to put towels to stop the rain from coming in.

We did the "look at the monorail Christmas resorts" that night. After the GF we did not stop at MK due to being closed. So we had to take the Epcot monorail to get a bus to go back to WL.

People did tell us they were given tickets to another MVMCP. It was only cancelled the one night, but it rained most of our vacation.

Yes ! don those ponchos and head out to a park or resort.

We are going to the MVMCP on tuesday 11/29 and the extended forecast calls for thunderstorms that night. I really hope that they are wrong!!

Was this, per chance, Dec. 2002?? We went to MVMCP that Tues and had beautiful weather. We went to Candlelight Processional on Thurs. and about a half hour into it, we gave up...the rain was coming down horizonally and it was thundering!! :earseek: A friend of mine from the boards went to that Thurs. party and they were issued a refund since they were leaving the next day. That week alone in Dec., it rained 4 out of our 6 days for a total of 10" of rain!! Fort Wilderness flooded and I have pictures of ducks swimming across the area in front of the Settlement Depot!! :umbrella: NOT THIS YEAR!! :rolleyes1

I wasn't there, but I remember reading about that night and people getting refunds. If I'm remembering right, the ones who asked for a refund that night while they were still there got them, but people who went back the next day to ask were denied. So, if this should happen to you, make sure to stop by Guest Relations on your way out that night to ask for your refund (no guarantee you'll get it, but your chances will be better than if you wait till later).

The weather in Fl is always iffy. Thundershowers could mean just a
5 min storm and then the sun comes out.

December is the 'dry' season or so they say.

The time I was referring to was very unusual weather for December.

They are forecasting a rainy night on Sunday, 12/4, our MVMCP. It's a bit too early to panic, but is it terrible of me to hope for a *little* rain to keep crowds down? :rotfl: DS and I had a wonderfully deserted rainy MK EMH night back in February - we had a total blast.

Just some rain and thunderstorms won't cancel the party. It would have to be incredibly nasty out for the whole evening.

Just a note:

This past year, in October, there was a MNSSHP the night that Hurricane Wilma hit.

At about 8:30 the rain came in like buckets, and the wind was pretty heavy. The party still went on. However, they wont do fireworks in winds over 25 mph.

While they may make exceptions, they may have gotten more strict on it, as I was told adamantly that the party wont be cancelled (though the parade and fireworks can be) and that the moment the party starts, the tickets are non-refundable.

That night there was a looooong line at Guest Relations at the front of the MK for refunds. After a while they started telling people they didn't have to wait on line. They gave us a card that has the WDW Customer Relations information. When we got home I sent Disney a letter requesting a refund, which I did receive. I had to provide our wrist bands from the party as well.

We were at the party in 2002 that it rained and rained and rained....and did I mention it rained a little :rotfl: WE toughed it out as long as we could and finally gave up. I did write a letter to Disney about being disappointed by the party considering the price of tickets - if I remember correctly both parades were cancelled but the fireworks went on....but a lot of the performances were cancelled.....Jump 5 was supposed to perform (which I was excited about - don't ask - I don't know why) and their show got cancelled. I did receive a refund and really appreciated it since they didn't have to because they are clearly sold as nonrefundable. However....this wasn't a little bit of rain. It was almost to the top of the curbs on Main Street. We wore rain gear (went to I think Academy and bought rain suits because ponchos were clearly not going to cut it) all night and were still soaked to the bone.
