I was wondering if everyone in the party had to take ME? Could all but one or maybe 2 take it and the others go and get the rentle car and just meet us? This would really help us out a lot. THere's 5 of us and we only want one car. THe problem is getting all the luggage to and from the airport and hotel. We need a rather large vehicle to this. Otherwise an intermediate would work just fine. Thanks!

You can do that. No problem.

At least one person must check in for DME and ride the DME motorcoach if you want DME luggage transfers.

Do you mean that 1 person :confused3 (out of the 5 ) can check in at DME and have 10 bags picked up ( if each person brought 2 bag limit)?

I thought that if you didn't check in your bags would not be picked up butyour saying 1 person can now have all the bags picked :confused3

this doesn't sound right to me but maybe it is

IIRC, you are given a set amount of luggage tags to use on the ME. I don't know how that factors in to how many bags that can be checked vs. how many people use the service out of your party. (if that makes sense)

There were 4 in our party, and only 2 used ME. I think they had 3 bags between them? We had a carry on and took it with us to the rental, so it was a non-issue.

But to answer your question-- not everyone has to use ME. You'll need to let them know at the ME check-in desk that there are people not using it. Not a big deal at all.

I would call ME and ask them your question. I do not believe ME was designed to be a luggage service. You would hate to get to your resort thinking all your luggage made the bus trip and then find out they only brought luggage for the 2 people on the bus. JMO

When I called for our last trip I was told that each person was given 2 bar-coded tags in the package ( it will have the main Ressie name and then that persons under it ).

The only way the bags would be pulled was if that person got scanned onto the bus.

Now we didn't have an issue as we only had 5 bags total for 3 riding ME I just made sure they were tagged correctly.

I was also told that you can request more tags in a certian persons name but not how many.

It was nice for just 2 of us to get the Empty rental and the others to take the bus.
We arrived at SSR within minutes of each other.

I'm not worried about the tags. I will use all of the tags that are going to be the ME riders. Then if there's luggage left we'll leave them untag and the car rentle 2 will take them w/ them. I haven't even opended the ME envelope to see how many tags there were. I know last yr we had more tags then we could come close to using and we had an infant and thought we had the most luggage allowed for 2 seats for 3 people. (KWIM?) Thanks for the info.

I agree that it's a good idea to call Disney's Magical Express (DME) Guest Services at 866-599-0951 to confirm the plan. It's true that Magical Express does not allow "luggage-only" transfers according to the Magical Express FAQ. The OP's plan is to have at least one person in the party checking in and riding a Magical Express motorcoach — not expecting a "luggage-only" transfer.

There are two luggage tags per person in the DME packet, so a party of 4 will have 8 luggage tags. Let's suppose that the party uses all eight tags, but only one person checks in and rides the motorcoach. So the question is whether all eight bags would be transported and delivered, or only the two bags tagged with the name of the person who checked in.

See post 25 in the thread "ME bus or towncar?" in which CleveRocks discussed exactly that question with DME Guest Services. The answer was that all 8 bags would be delivered, because the delivery is tied to the reservation number, not to the name on the tag.

Again, I would recommend that anyone who wants to do this should double-check with DME Guest Services first.

Thanks for the info. I think I will call them and if they say all the bags will make it then I might just tag all of them. We may still do this even if we keep the bigger car rentle. It just seems easier in the long run.

And wow that was a heated thread!

Yup, Horace reported it correctly. That's exactly what I was told. But I also agree with Horace's last line, to call and double-check this info. We've all either had experiences or read others' experiences of being misinformed by well-meaning but not well-informed CMs.
