Wah! My sister and I had 2 friends over today, and I could not talk them into watching Damn Yankees, a musical about a baseball fan who sells his soul to the devil. They thought the plot sounded good, but because of the songs they had no interest in it at all. boo hoo. I still think they mighta liked it if they had tried- it's not a typical musical. It can be so frustrating having a taste in music and movies that is such a minority. I get so much flack for my obsession with musicals and showtunes. *sigh* (I can't help it....a lot of what's popular in music today sounds bleah to me- I can tune it out just like background noise.)

I'm with you Angie!

I LOVE Musicals and you know what? So do my kids! :)

SO there IS still hope :D

Angie don't you worry! I love musicals and showtunes! I love a wide variety of music... my collection of music in my CD changer is rather odd, but I listen to what I love and forget about what others think!

I love them too Angie a condition I caught from my mother - Have you seen 1776?

I understand your problem, Angie. It's hard to get someone like your friends to enjoy a musical form that they think they might not like. Is it because they know only rock and R&B and don't know much about show music or "standard" pop tunes?

I knew about Broadway from the time I was a kid(late 60s-early 70s). I know I heard rock and roll everywhere when I was a kid, but by the time I had my own radio in my room, I discovered the big bands, jazz, standards and classical music....and showtunes of course. I also watched Lawrence Welk when I was a kid....used to be ribbed about that!:) I was also the only kid on my block who listened to MONITOR on the weekends(I liked hearing Gene Rayburn, one of my favorite game show hosts, on the radio playing "adult" pop music).

I do love musicals....especially the more traditional ones like Sound of Music or My Fair Lady. Most of the shows of the past 3 decades or so aren't much to my liking, with possible exceptions such as Beauty and the Beast, Annie, The Producers etc. I do not care for Lord Lloyd-Webber's work at all.

I love musicals, dh and ds don't like them at all :(

I'd rather perform in them, instead of watch them. That's just more fun....:D

I love musicals (both musical theater and movie musicals)! My 5 year-old ds and 3 year-old dd love them, too. DH didn't always appreciate musicals in his past (before he knew me ;) ), but he definitely does now. I often come home to find him listening to the Show Tunes channel on Directv. :D

I love musicals!! they are my favorite type of movie genre! :)

there are SOOO many I need to see...I always watch the same ones over and over(like Singin' in the Rain and Guys and Dolls)

We all love musicals at our house. My dd's favorite is Hello Dolly. My dh shows them to his music classes sometimes so that they will be introduced to them. Most of these kids have never seen or heard of a musical...such a shame.

I love them! Wish they still turned them out like they used to. We have most of them on laserdisc or dvd and we watch them frequently.

BROADWAY BABY

I'm just a Broadway baby, walking off my tired feet
Pounding 42nd street to be in a show
Broadway Baby, learning how to sing and dance
Waiting for that one big chance to be in a show

Gee I'd like to be on some marquee,
All twinkling lights
A spark to pierce the dark
From Battery Park, way up to Washington Heights

Someday maybe, all my dreams will be repaid...
Hell, I'd even play the maid to be in a show!

Say, Mister Producer, I'm talking to you, sir
I don't need a lot, only what I've got
Plus a tube of greasepaint and a follow spot

Broadway baby, slaving at the five and ten
Dreamin' of that great day when I'll be in a show
Broadway baby, making rounds all afternoon
Eating at some greasy spoon to save on my dough

At my tiny flat, there's just my cat,
A bed and a chair
Still, I'll stick it till
I'm on a bill, all over Times Square

Someday maybe, if I stick it long enough,
I may get to strut my stuff
Working for a nice man, like a Zeigfeld or a Weissmann
In a great, big, Broadway show!

ya think I might like sondheim? ;) ;)

saw Barbara Cook's "Mostly Sondheim" at the Beaumont last monday. saw "Oklahoma!" a few weeks ago. just got my tickets to see "Hairspray". can't wait to see "dance of the Vampire Hunters" and the rivivals of "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Gypsy" and "Man of La Mancha" and "Flower Drum Song" this season.

I cried when PBS channel 13 stopped showing musicals Saturday nights -- though they still show classic old movies, which I love.

yes, Angiebelle, the musical is alive and well, and I'm glad to say I'm a fan.

I've always loved musicals. I had the best time when we did them in high school. And when I lived in NJ we couldn't get to Broadway enough! :) Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets... ;)

I LOVE musicals! Luckily I managed to convert my husband. Sondheim is my favorite, but I pretty much like 'em all.:D

stopped in at Colony yesterday before meeting up with Vicky and Hes, and bought myself the CD of "Into the Woods" -- the revival cast. I still don't own the original cast recording and was tempted to buy both, but restrained myself.
