Hi - we are sailing on this cruise and I figured it was about time I came out of lurkdom to introduce myself. My DH and I are travelling with our DS (6) and DD (9). We are not necessarily big Disney people, but have heard great things about their cruises and figured if we were going to go, this would be the way to do it. We've cruised before, but not with the kids - and have been to WDW twice (and are planning to go back in November - so maybe we are more Disney-people than I thought! ).

I am just getting around to thinking about excursions - the one thing I really would like to do is the 'Deadliest Catch' crab boat excursion. I'm looking forward to hearing more about everyone's planning.

Are you thinking about joining our Fish Extender exchange group? It's a lot of fun - maybe being a new Disney cruiser, you don't know what that is. Then again, maybe you've been reading all about it. Just in case: Outside your door is a Fish that has a mail slot/cup at the top. You can hang things from it. We hang a fabric "thing" with pockets, and people exchange fun little gifts with others in the group. It can be anything! Store-bought, homemade, cheap, expensive, from your hometown/state, whatever.
We also have a group going on FB if you're on there and would like to join, let us know - someone will have to add you as a friend and then join you to the group.

I'm sure my 10 year old DD would be happy to meet your DD9! She's always hoping for kids more her age to spend time with!

Are you on Facebook? We also have a group over there and one of our members is working on a spreadsheet with all the people in the fish extender group!

You might not have enough posts to send a Private Message yet, to get the info to join you on FB, but we would need some info:

Cabin #, DISNAME
names, gender and ages of children
children's favorite character (someone is using this info for gifts)

I can certainly share your info on FB to get on the list, but if you want to join the group on FB, you need to give one of us your FB name so we can friend you and invite you to the group. Just post a few more times here so you can PM me and I'll get your name.

Hey hey everybody! I'm a newbie! Can I get in on this Facebook page? I can't believe I hadn't heard about the fish extender program before, but my little family wants in! I'm already designing our FE My name is Sarah McMullin from Idaho, and my hubby and I have one little 19 month old girly girl (one of her first words was Mickey). We went on the first Alaska sailing in 2011 and I was barely pregnant and very sick, so hoping for a more pleasant experience this time...unless I get pregnant again, then I will be more than happy to be sick again. I'll keep you guys in the loop, and y'all can just leave me Preggie Pops in my FE Can't wait to get to know everybody and think of some fun little presents!

A little more about us, my parents, my husbands parents, and my brother and his wife will all be joining us on the cruise (not doing FE though...they're boring ). Last time we drove into Vancouver a day early and stayed at the Holiday Inn near Chinatown (much cheaper, and Chinatown was very interesting), departure day we did a food crawl down Davies St downtown before we boarded, and that was incredible! We will go in a day early again but may take the train from Seattle rather than driving all the way into Vancouver. We zip lined in Skagway, did the underground mine tour in Juneau, and the crab feast and logging competition in Ketchikan, there are also multiple fish and chips shacks in Ketchikan and we crawled through them and they were tasty! Zip lining was fun, but could be done anywhere, the mine tour was great but dress WARM it is freezing in that mine! The crab feast was interesting and incredibly delicious, and the logging competition was a blast! This time we are doing the Liarsville Salmon Bake (Disney exclusive) in Skagway, dog sledding in Juneau (the men are going Halibut fishing on a private charter), and in Ketchikan my parents are doing the Disney exclusive Deadliest Catch and crab dinner thing, the rest of us are going back to the logging competition (which I recommend not booking through Disney unless you want to do the disney exclusive, you can just walk up and buy a ticket and its only like $15 or so). Ketchikan was my favorite stop, and unfortunately it's the shortest! Juneau was fun, as was Skagway, but its really small and you have 12 hours there! You probably would have enough time to do TWO excursions and still get a good look at the entire town!

Ok - got it! I booked some excursions today too:

- in Skagway, we're doing the 4 X 4 adventure
- in Juneau, we're going to rent a car and explore a little on our own
- in Ketchikan, we're doing the Bering Sea Crab tour (but can't do the Disney exclusive as our little one is not quite old enough - boo!).

I rented the car myself, but decided that I'd just book through Disney for the excursions - the thought of getting somehow stuck and missing the ship (or a paid-for excursion) was stressing me out more than the little extra cost of the excursions. (Ask me again when the visa bill comes in!)
