We've been invited to one at the end of the month. Apparently we'll be getting our "character" information in the mail ahead of time. The game is called "A Taste of Wine and Murder" or something like that. Sounds like fun. Anyone ever been to one?

it sounds like a lot of fun. Is this at someone's house or at a venue. Is there a company hosting it? Or are the host's doing it themselves?

I hosted a murder mystery dinner for Halloween two years ago. We were all a little shy at first, but by the end of the night we were all really into our characters. Some people really broke out of their shells - including me, it was hillarious. I would love to do another one!

You'll have a great time. Make sure to dress the part!

Every year we would go on a trip with the sales staff from DH's company and last year we did one of these. It was a group that goes around to different places and puts on the show. Some of the customers that were on the trip and some of the employees were in the show. It was pretty funny.

no-but i have friends who were hired to be shills (sp?) in the audience. they would attend as "guests" but have some knowledge of the set up so they could make comments or ask questions to facilitate the flow of the evening. they enjoyed it quite a bit, they would get paid a flat fee for the evening and get a "free date" as well (they always had to come as a couple so the guys would invite the current girlfiend to come and a much nicer meal and drinks than they were usualy able to afford).

It's at a friends house. There will be 8 or 10 of us. She's got it all planned out. There are "suspects" and "interrogators". She bought the "kit" that has all she needed. I'm looking forward to it!

I plan on dressing the part. I don't know if others will (especially DH). He just rolled his eyes when I told him about it. Hopefully he will be willing to participate.

Something different!

I hosted one years ago and it was a lot of fun. We did drink too much and forget our script and characters though :rotfl:

I went to one several years ago that was so much fun. It supposedly took place in the 20s on a cruise ship...my character's name (yes, I still remember it) was Ciao Bella. lol. I was an opera singer, I think. I created a fun costume...did the flapper thing, got a red feather boa, the works. the only thing I regret is I had a wee too much champagne (my friend, who was the host, served only drinks from the period...champagne cocktails, gin martinis, etc). I would love to do another someday.

I've never done one, but I do remember seeing a hilarious "Golden Girls" episode where they attend a weekend Murder Mystery party.

Hve fun! Maybe one day i'll have a party like that.

We hosted this party. It is fun. You should already have your character. We sent them with the invitation, since you need to be in costume for your part. Do bring what it tells you to bring. It is needed.

Tell the host to have everybody write down their guess before turning to the last page. The game is more fun for the murder that way.

In this game there are only 6 suspects and 2 non-suspects, so if 10 attend then 2 will have not part. Everybody knows who the 2 non-suspects are before the games starts. We chose a different meal that what is in the "kit". We did an italian theme, since it would go well with wine.

If DH has a part he must dress the part or the game work well. Please get him to dress his part.

BTW everybody had a blast. We are planning on doing another one in a few months.

mickeyfan2 - The invitations are in the mail. We should be getting them today. I already know my character though, Hedy Shablee. My husband is Papa Vito! Should be fun!

Any tips I can pass along to the hostess before the 21st?

DH and I went with another couple to a B&B in NC for a long weekend. They were putting on a "Murder Mystery" and we (make that the 2 women) were excited about it. We dressed for it and were really getting into it. The whole thing turned out to be soooooo corny that we were disappointed. :(

We did about 20-25 over several years.....about 3-4 each winter.
Had great fun.....coordinated the decorations and food to go with the theme.
Have a great time!!

Everyone had a part in the ones we did. They were all for 8 people...
DD attended a "tamer" teen version. She was excited after seeing all of the preps over the years for the ones we did.
We have also gone on a mystery train dinner ride. That was a lot of fun too.

I was Hedy Shablee (a hippy wine owner). Both you and DH are suspects. DH should like the Papa Vito costume, since he is a farm hand who works in the vineyard. Straw hat, overalls, boot, cigar (I think). When we did it we matched the character to the person. DH picked them all out and said I was Hedy. I had a wine skirt that I made and bare feet. I personally thought the suspect parts were more fun. My DH was a non-suspect. Those parts are not needed to play the game.

You will have a great time.

Just change the menu to whatever suits your taste buds. We did italian and played italian music in the background.

Try hosting it. The kit makes it very easy. This was the only one I have ever hosted or attended. DH attended one once, I stayed home with bronchitis.

I think they must have done the same thing...match the character to the person! Sounds awesome! I think I can get my DH to wear those items!!!
