Screamscape.com posted last week that the Mummy might be a single car with 16 seats in a "stadium seating" layout. They didn't elaborate on that fact, but then I remembered another ride with that layout:

Oblivion, in the UK. Holds 16 riders and goes directly downward into a hole in the earth

It would be very interesting to see a great scene at the end, then they drop you into a hole as the climax.

I have a feeling that the new ride will be a mix between a coaster and a Spider-Man type track ride.

In my theory, a vehicle like the one in the picture would move on a coaster track, but not like a traditional coaster. For the majority it would move along its track much like "dark rides" move along theirs, with motorized propulsion. But then there would be times where drops or loops would come into play, like a traditional coaster.

This would combine the type of thrills that can only be found on a coaster, with the storytelling flexibility that can only be accomplished by strategically controlling the vehicle (slow down, swivel), allowing the riders to fully experience the visual effects.

Just imagine Spider-Man, but where in the final drop isn't a sensory one, but an actual coaster drop.

I only say this because of the amount of attention being placed on the visual effects aspects of the ride. This would be a waste if the riders were merely zooming by them. From the concept art and videos that can be found on the net, it seems like the intention is for the rider to actually capture and experience these images on what's supposed to be a roller coaster.

Agree. There was also a short video posted. It shows the people looking at the fire room, turning, then accellerating thru a tunnel. The coaster will use Lims, which B&M coasters are not famous for using. Screamscape confirmed the track to be the same design as Speed in Las Vegas, made by Premier.
I see the ride going slow while in a room, then accellerating quickly to escape, then slowing down again for more story telling.

They should put a dive machine into IOA. Rip out the theatre over in Toon Lagoon, and drop in a coaster like the one from Alton Towers that is shown above.

Yes this is what I was picturing also...I don't expect this thing to be very fast even with LIM's. I'm thinking a few miles an hour in one room.....hit a LIM up to 20-25 then break...another room hit another lim then break..another room...and so on....maybe 4 Lims Heck there is even a chance that you could be sent through backwards after going through forward.

nahh....that thing is a one trick wonder. IOA already has a pretty cheesy off the shelf ride ( Dr. Doom). Nobody wants Universal turning into a SixFlags.

The cool part will be if they have multiple launches, which I think they will. With the tunnels, and props around the coaster, it will "feel" like you're going fast. Plus the ride time will be longer if they slow the coaster down, tell a story, then zoom it into the next room.

I'm hoping for the JP Flyer at IOA. They have a huge piece of land next to Rip Saw Falls. They put props on it for HHN, and one of the houses is there, which could be the queue. That's when you can see just how big that piece of land is. A Flyer is perfect because that would give IOA 4 B&M coasters, it loads fast, has high capacity, and an amazing ride. If they make it with 2 pretzel loops, tunnels, and fly thru a forest, that would be amazing.

Not happening.

Would it be possible to tell us the seating arragement in mind?

Europa, who says it has to be an unthemed one-trick wonder? If they had enough room in Toon Lagoon they could have an Oblivion type-sequence where the vehicle would plunge into a vat of ink (surely it wouldn't be actual ink -- but they could alway elevate the ink jar so you can't see that's it just a hole and then splash the ink out whenever a car goes through).

The rest of the ride would take place in an underground cartoon world.

It can happen. Though that would make three rides with height requirements in a land themed to cartoon characters -- I think they'll go for a family dark ride before they go that route.

As far as the stadium-style seating on Mummy didn't the article indicate that it would be the same as Spidey's or Dinosaur -- three rows of four -- only elevated to give every rider an unobstructed perspective?

No one said it had to be un-themed on trick wonder...but I point to Dr. Doom, Storm Force and The Flying Unicorn as the direction that we don't want IOA to go in.

Anything is possible but you are limited to the Technolgy of the ride. Ever wonder why they haven't built more of those?

You guys are thinking too much of rollercoaster here. The ride is half rollercoaster, half dark ride. Maybe you should be thinking more along the lines of spiderman(3x4) ride systems. (4x4)....passenger wise. Then just imagine that ontop of a newly designed car (just for this ride) and put it ontop of a electronic ride track that transfers into a rollercoaster track.

If that didn't make sense, then its too bad.:jester:
