Multiple Home Resorts

I had been told by MS that I could make a ressie at one of my home resorts 11 months out and then when I was at the 7 month point I could apply any other points I have from the other home resort--this was when I made the original ressie. Now MS says that you have to cancel your existing reservation and re-book with the "combined" points of 2 resorts--I am at the 7 month point and want to apply the other home resort's banked points. Has anybody ever done this? I want to use as many of my banked points on one reservation as possible so I don't end up with too many sitting around due to a move next year--all points are same use year. I had asked to have a supervisor call me back as none were available, but they didn't call back and I don't even have a message on my machine. . .

They are right. That is exactly how you have to do it. You can't simply 'swap' the points. You have to cancel the existing reservation and make the new one. Of course, you may have a problem with availability....if you think about it, it really is only fair. If there is a waiting list the day the seven month window opens up, those are people with home resort points trying to get that room. Allowing one person to simply swap non-home resort points as you would like to do, would put your non-home resort points ahead of someone else's home resort points.

I am only using 'your' for explanation purposes, not getting on your case.

Can you believe that with some of the righteous police on this board complaining about rudeness, you actually have to add that last statement?

You cannot just change points at the 7 months window. Otherwise you'd basically have the home resort priority for all of your points at each and every resort you own. What you were told or at least understood originally was wrong and has been discussed on this board many times. You could cancel and rebook IF IT'S AVAILABLE at the 7 month window.

Thanks for clarifying. It's sad that MS had not explained this properly--multiple times I might add--and from the way it has been described in the above posts, it's not that hard to explain!! And no, I didn't take it as an insult about the helpful comments!! I appreciate the simple explanation!!

I am confused, did you want to add to your reservation or transfer your points and make the reservation with your 7 month points???

I'm trying to do both, move banked points into the 7 month part by adding to the reservation--2 bedroom for some days instead of 1 bedroom. I may have to sit down with MS while I have a "picture" drawn out to figure out a way to do this. I had thought the 2 bedroom part would be simple, using the other banked points at the 7 month part but I guess I may have confused MS. I think if I just write out what I want by setting side the 11 month points for the 1 bedroom and the 7 month banked points for the 2 bedroom I might be less confusing to MS!! We shall see!!

If you are adding to your reservation you will not have to rebook the entire time you are down there. If you are looking to replace nights with different room sizes or use other points to book what you already have booked, you will have to rebook the time you want to replace.

If you can just add to your reservation you should be O.K.

As long as the room sizes you want are available for the nights you need, it really doesn't matter. You simply cancel what you have and robook with whatever points you have that are within the 11 month window for home resort and 7 month window for any resort.

In the future, there are several ways to accomplish what you wanted. You could book as many nights as possible with the points from that resort then add the extra few days when the 7 month window opens up. Usually this is booking the weekdays first then the weekends at the 7 month window. Another option is to bank and borrow points (if necessary) and book everything at the 11 month window then at the 7 month windiw cancel the days you need to freeing up some current use year points which can then be banked. Third option is to make ressies at both home resorts for the days and unit sizes needed then change over at 7 months, of course this works best if points are all from WDW resorts. Fourth option is just to take your chances at the 7 month window.

Good luck.
