MSEP to end Oct. 9 - Parade moves to Disneyland for a "limited time"

We are scheduled to be in Magic Kingdom on October 9th. Was originally planning to catch the parade on Wednesday, the 12th, which was our other MK late night. But, now I guess will have to settle for the seeing the very last one. I can't imagine how crazy the crowd will be.

I was planning on being down there that weekend plus a couple days ...... now officially cancelled. I don't want to be anywhere near it all. LUCKILY for me I can book and cancel at whim since I can drive the 8 hrs.

I'm hoping they add more dates for its last run. Going Sept 27-Oct 5th and with MNSSHP there is literally only one night we could see it - which we were planning on being elsewhere. But, if I have to will definitely move things around. Want to see it one more time.

It seems crazy to hope, but I really do hope something comes along for nighttime. We're going in December, and are attending a Christmas party, but that does not make for losing MSEP. We last went to DLR in 2013, before DD, age 2, even existed. I told her and her brothers how that really cute Disney Junior promo is a mini version of MSEP. You Disney Junior viewers know the one I mean: an animated 30-second spot set at twilight with three all-lights floats coming down an empty boulevard, one for each of the "giants," Sofia, Jake, and Doc.
If ROL ever starts, that could be an alternative, but I've begun to doubt it'll be up even in December.

Doesn't it seem odd that a parade would be pulled at holiday season but also during their 45th anniversary year? This is no way to celebrate a 45th anniversary...to leave guests extremely disappointed?

Since I'll be there and wasn't planning on a huge crowd, I at least hope they extend park hours and schedule a second parade to disperse the crowd some.

yes, that is kind of what I have been saying. I think this is a response to "We need to get $xxxxxxx OFF the books for first quarter STAT". Of course it's just a guess. I'm going in december and I am extremely disappointed. I emailed guest services to let them know too although I know it doesn't matter and there is nothing they can or would do but it just felt good to express my disappointment.

It runs twice per day - 12:00 and 3:30 - until they decide which day FoF returns.
I just checked on the HUB and Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade is on the schedule at 3:30pm from Dec. 23rd until the 31st. They will more than likely add the 12 showing as well. But this means no nighttime parade for the busy holiday season

I disagree - Although money is at stake I think the rationale was that DL was in sore need of an attendance boost with all the construction going on and the thought was to pull MSEP back as all of DL's nighttime activities are winding down and the Paint the Night parade has gone a little stale. Pulling it in October gives them the ramp move up time to get it over to DL while absorbing the hit during all the holiday parades at MK. I don't think the issue was "let's save money at MK by not having a parade" but "We've gotta shore up DL's attendance numbers FAST and MK can absorb the hit".

Accept that's not the case.

DLR attendance has been phenomenal in 2016. WDW's attendance has...not.

Yes, DLR has gotten a huge boost from the 60th events, but neither the closures for Star Wars Land (which actually only affects a few of its 36 rides) nor the opening of WWHP at Universal Hollywood has resulted in the attendance dips that were original expected. DLR has just been unstoppable.

IIRC, WDW/MK's 40th anniversary, aside from merchandise, was a one day event. I wouldn't expect a big 45th event.

Blame me. I keep telling people to go to DLR. :p

The cheeky part of me would love to respond ''At this time, there are no plans to visit Disney parks until we actually know what you're going to have on offer for guests ahead of schedule''.

I am less upset about losing the parade (though touch my Wishes and I will cut you) and more irritated that I have to add yet another uncertainty to the list of planning items. It is hard to plan ADRS when you have no idea what nighttime entertainment is being planned on a given day. If you're going to force us to plan so far out, FFS give us the tools we need to do it.

Completely agree with you both, impossible to plan ADRs, Dinner Packages or Desert parties, to name a few, when park hours and event schedules aren't til last minute.

I know the 60th was a driving force to bringing a lot of people west to DLR for their first trip, but I think a lot of WDW regulars headed there just to see a new park because it was something new (to them) and WDW hasn't offered a ton of new experiences in the last 20 years.

I think DLR's strengths are WDW's weakness and vice-versa. I know we love DLR, we burn out at WDW.

What a joke!!! How mad would you be if this was something you were really excited for on your trip!?!? Sure a lot of us laughed at this offering but there are some that I'm sure were excited. Maybe they will get a good wishes viewing area?

I was considering rearranging my schedule for it so if I gave up a hard to find reservation for this I'd be HOPPING mad. I'm glad now I decided to just let it go because I liked everything else I had too much.

Disney has officially removed all doubt that it really is all about the Benjamins. FTR, I haveno problem whatsoever with corporations maximizing their profits. After all, they owe it to their shareholders. But WDW is in a stunning cycle right now of skyrocketing costs for guests and severely diminished guest experiences. I can't help but think they are playing a dangerous game by putting guest loyalty and brand value to the test. Then again I am not an insider. I am sure Disney has surveyed and polled and projected every possible scenario and are certain that they can afford to keep putting the pedal to the metal in regards to pricing AND cost-cutting.

I just know that a nighttime parade (Spectro or MSEP) is a magical experience for guests at MK. A parade contains those kind of moments that convert guests from one-timers to returnees. I will be sad when the day comes that the Disney brand means "money grab" and not "magic" to the general public.

My thoughts exactly! Im so frustrated this year! No MSEP during my trip, no ROL probably, and what about the hours at AK? Will it be open til later in the evening? And what about HS star wars fireworks? Not sure about that. BTM is going to be closed during my trip, the list goes on and on! I have to plan ADRs and FP without knowing what Disney will schedule! How is that fair?
