Called MS today to clarify exactly when I (proud BWV owner) can make a cash ressie on a BCV 2BR villa for one night before a big BWV stay. He asked me what date, and I explained that we hadn't even hit the 11 mos window yet (Aug 7) -- I just wanted to mark on my calendar when I could call. (11 mos out? 7 mos? 4 mos? etc.)

He then said, "Yeah, we don't have the rates posted yet, but I see that for late July, for example, there's plenty of availability at both BWV and BCV. You can call at the 7 mos -- no, at the 11 mos window."

I said, "Really? 11 mos -- you're sure? That soon for cash? And get the DVC discount? And even though I'm BWV, remember, not BCV?"

He said "Yes."

Now folks out there with experience, is this correct? I thought cash rooms were booked in much tighter windows, because they had to make sure no owners wanted them for pts first. Do they have a small inventory or "limit" of cash ressie for DVC rooms that they use? How does this work? I suppose I'll find out soon enough, when I call in 2 weeks or so to book the room!

DVC owns 4% of the rooms. They can rent theose units out anytime they want. Early cash bookings may come from that pool. Later cash bookings (ones made closer to your travel date) may come from unused member points.

Additionally, I don't know if DVC themselves will rent out "traded-in" points to cover the cash costs for DCL/DC/CC exchanges, or if DVC strictly relies on CRO to buy those points from DVC at a flat rate and rent them out to non-members.

I made a reservation 10 months out for a GV at HH next May -and got a DVC discount - I was surprised too. I rented pts from a member to get the GV there at NYE this year and didn't think to even try - it would have been much cheaper than the $10 a point too - but it probably wouldn't have been available.
