MS Auto Merging Reservations?

Has anyone else noticed MS auto merging consecutive reservations? We just had it happen twice today. We had a AKV and a Poly stay that were both booked as two separate stay, and we got the cancellation/rebook email today. It's not a huge deal for us, as we were going to have them combined anyways, but I'm wondering if it's a new thing? We've always had to ask to have our reservations merged before. What happens if someone didn't want them to be merged?

We had a multi day reservation at Poly on our account for a few weeks and never merged. I had to chat with MS today to request a merge so I wonder how they determine which ones to merge

It’s never happened to me, but I will say there have been more reports recently of them doing it. It worries me because I book things that way on purpose to make split stays easier to book.

Looks like I need to be sure to add a second guest to one of them from now on.

For you, did this happen when you used points between 2 UY/memberships? Or did this happen when you used points from 1 UY/membership? We have split stays but book them separately since the points come from different UY/memberships, but combining them may be a blessing in disguise (if they can). At the 60-day mark of my first stay, I can then make ADRs for my entire stay rather than having to wait to make ADR's when the widow opens for each reservation. Pros and Cons, I guess...

We only have one UY

We do the same. And while these two reservations were from us piecing it together, I don't think MS should be combining reservations without talking to the owner since it can't be undone

Yes, they do this but its not consistent. I have multiple upcoming reservations made over a two week stay. About 4 months ago they merged some but left the others. They've not been merged since. Maybe the ROFR person is in charge of this 😉

Gave me a heart attack when I just receive a cancellation email out of the blue. Not great communication.

I sent MS an email and told them thst I was hearing about this and that it’s not right.

Even said that I would like it noted somewhere on my account that they do not have my permisson to merge without my express authorization since I split stay a lot and need them that way to get different resorts.

I’ll keep you all posted to me response. The other reason is so I have something in writing if it were to happen.

This would be a concerning issue because I like to do split stays. I have booked two reservations on purpose so that I can change one of them to a different resort at 7-months mark. They have not been merged though. Hopefully it stays this way.

A couple months ago I had my resv at PVB auto merged.
I book the original resv earlier then decided we might want an extra night & had to waitlist it.

The night came thru 1st as a separate resv & new resv #. I figured I’d leave it separate until we decided if we really wanted it. But then the next day I got a cancellation notice (which freaked me out), then came the merged resv email.

I wasn’t thrilled that they did that seeing I wasn’t sure if we could actually use it yet, but it is what it is & not that big of a deal this time. But if I was split staying that of been different

Do you keep your name on the reservation also when you do this? Or just put the reservation in someone else’s name in your party?

My name is always on a reservation but have never worried about adding other guests until I knew who was going

I spec book different room sizes for some of the trip at 11 months, and books as split stays.

Now, I’ll just make sure that I have other guests on one of the consecutive reservations so things can’t me merged because guests are different.

Ok. Good to know for the future. Thank you

Follow up. I got the email back that it should not be happenings unless expressly requested but they will forward my email to the team that handles to let them know of the concerns and that there are reports it is happening.

I would suggest anyone who do book this way email MS with the concern too!!

Thanks for the update! I think I'll email them with the reservations it happened to so they can look into it.

I’ve had this happen when a waitlist came through. Of course, I was glad it happened since it saved me a phone call to MS so I didn’t think much of it.

I heard of this happening several years ago, so I got in the habit of putting a different lead guest name on my reservations if I want to keep them separate (like if I’m planning to try and change a part of the trip to a different resort at 7 months). And then I fix the names once everything is finalized.

They did it to me a couple weeks ago for a reservation months away, and I was annoyed. I am thinking about asking chat to put a note not to auto-merge.

I understand doing it for reservations that are a couple weeks away, but they really need to check waitlists before they do this.

If it were reversible, whatever, but this is a problem created by their horrible system. Don't do irreversible things no one asked for, if you can't fix it.

The other way to prevent this is to make your guests different in the room. You could take someone out and add them back later. This is problematic to park reservations, obviously. I add someone who isn't even going and match them up in MDE and everything.

I just had 3 reservations merged without asking. Not a huge deal, but it’s definitely still happening.

I'd email MS and let them know. Based on my email response from them, it is not supposed to be happening and I think its important for them to hear from owners in which it did.

I have a 3-night stay booked for October and I had a waitlist for the first night. It filled yesterday so now I have a 1-night reservation followed by a 2-night reservation. Obviously, I would like these to be merged so that we have a single, 3-night reservation. Any recent reports of this being done automatically? Or should I e-mail/chat with MS to be safe?
