MR January 29 2012- Who's in?

Any previous cruiser pre pay their gratuities? I read something about it but can't seem to find it now. Can I do it online or do I call?

Promise you won't laugh? We will have 4 giant suitcases for the 4 of us, plus 2 carry on suitcases AND a back-pack or large purse each. (carry-on suitcases just have regular stuff in them but the purses and backpack will have food and 2 nintendo DS, 2 ipads, a thinkpad, an android tablet, 2 iphones and 1 ipod... yes, we like our electronics!!) AND we will pack a medium suitcase inside one of the large ones so that I can shop, shop, shop!!
We also use the travel spacebags so we can cram more in our suitcases!!

In my defense  we are going to Disneyland for 4 days too. So we need 2 different seasons of clothes and comfy shoes!
And Dannan uses at least 2 outfits per day... with the 3 custom outfits I had made and all of her hair bows she needs a big suitcase just for herself. (not really, but it sure feels like it.)

***FUNNY STORY ALERT!!!***
We got out all of our suitcases last week. I would have sworn 100% that our FE was in one of them that we only use for CA trips. It wasn't there. I tore thru all of our empty luggage.... NOTHING. So I started digging through the house. No where to be found. (I did find our door magnets...YAY!!) So I decided I'd have to make another one. No problem. Last night I go to be bed and realize I hadn't seen our packing cubes or spacebags either. I could NOT get to sleep worrying about this. So at 2 AM I am down in the freezing cold storage room rummaging through everything. While my husband slept... oblivious to my panic!! I finally found the spacebags and cubes but still no FE. I didn't fall asleep until 3:30 only to wake up at 6:30!! GRRR.
I did run to the craft store and buy stuff to do another FE. I used the fabric craft bags you can get at Michael's. It's BIG... 3 pockets and @ 3 feet long. But it was all I could get. Oh well. On 3 hours sleep I think it will do!

I have been reading the luggage stories to my hubby and he has come to the conclusion that it's a woman thing. He should be used to this having two daughters. He thinks we go on vacation with everything we own.....just in case......I know some other husbands out there nodding their heads.

I have asked mine to put my cruise suitcase in the vehicle now (we leave in the morning) because things are starting to creep into it. I know I will have to shop when we head to Hawaii after the cruise, cause I don't have nearly enough.

We have a separate suitcase for Vancouver that we will leave at the hotel so we aren't dragging it everywhere....

got to go, still have time to put more in my suitcase. (We are only taking one each plus carryon each).

One more sleep and we are off:banana::banana::banana:

I promise not to laugh at multiple suitcases! When we were travelling with kids it was amazing the amount of extra outfits, entertainment, snacks, etc. My kids have fond memories of playing Disney Trivial Pursuit in the airport for hours - through the eyes of a child - because it was actually an extensive flight delay and we were stuck in the airport due to weather....

I am so looking forward to this! UPS just delivered our cruise document - yeah!

And, DH's passport should be here tomorrow - yes, we realized the day we booked that it had expired last January. Fortunately there is a passport office in Detroit, so an expedited passport is on the way. He should have a valid passport for work anyway, so, that is taken care of.

Back to packing!

Oh - what transportation are you all using after the cruise from the port to the airport? SuperShuttle wanted to pickup at 9:50 - that seemed a tad unrealistic given the schedule, no?

Wow! DISNANNY, you will be going to Hawaii after the cruise? I think I missed this. How fantastic! What a wonderful vacation! Okay, I already over pack - it's a problem I've always had. I could imagine if I were doing two vacations in a row! I'd need a valium - to give to my DH :scared1: Sounds wonderful! :cheer2:

I am usually the underpacker! I kind of have to be now since the 5 year olds really can't carry much and my 11 year old isn't much better...so I'm taking 1 large with the twins and my clothes...a carry on with 11 year olds clothes, and a duffle bag with FE stuff..

Bad story which should make me carry more...Went on a 5 night cruise with girlfriends...ONLY took a small carry on (checked it, but was small)..my friend had a huge suitcase and carry on and it was OVERWEIGHT...so..we were at airport switching things around and I shove things in my bag...get to cabin and all my clothes were stained with red (from a shirt that bled) My friend shoved her HUGE aerosol hairspray into my bag and it exploded...everything ruined!! Bad..bad...the one who had the least amount then had NOTHING..lol!

I'm taking some clothes in a back pack so we have swim suits and a change of clothes in case something happens like that!!

We went last Sunday and it was totally worth it. I'm not sure if we will do it again as I haven't started packing or organizing my piles of fe stuff. My older son also has a ton of homework so we will see. The ship sailed about 5:30 last week.

The parking lot on the far side of Alcapulco was a good spot. We were able to park on the waters edge so my younger son could stay dry in the car since it rained here last Sat too. I can't complain about the weather after reading earlier posts. I have to admit I have never even been in the cold that some of you live in, burrr! BTW the margaritas are so so but as expected.

Hope you get to go.

We went last night to see the sail from the pArk right there and it was Awesome my kids are so excited now ...I hope they make it to the end of the week ...great idea

We were there too! It looked like the sun was on the ship the entire time. Once they sailed away it got cold. Fun packing options! :confused3

LOL...I have my husband looking for the one suitcase he swears we don't have! I think I know we have!:laughing:

We fly out tomorrow! I have the kids on LA time now so they should be easier to deal with. I'm still packing believe it or not. So far it looks like good flying weather we have to do a stop in Denver and it looks like it will be sunny and warmer there also. Yeah global warming!

We leave Thursday, DH keeps asking if I want him to take Thurs off to "help" me get ready...Ummmm NO, his help is equal to that of the 7yr old, mainly watching while I do it and commenting on everything I do. So we are heading out after he gets home Thurs night :cool1:

Safe travels to those leaving! See you at the port!

We leave early Saturday morning and will be at the Crowne Plaza Saturday night.

Question: What transportation did you all book AFTER the cruise? We're heading straight to the airport, but SuperShuttle wanted a 9:50 pickup time, which seemed rather early given the estimated 9:30 disembark time.

We are flying from Long Beach, when I asked on the board about transportation, I was told there are taxis outside the pier, which we plan on taking. You don't have to book these but if flying from LAX it will probably be a whole different story.

Our last cruise we took super shuttle to the airport, spent 5 boring hours there.

I'm jealous! We leave Saturday morning an get in around 4pm...I can't wait!! I still need to book transportation period....I HAVE to do that tomorrow..probably Super SHuttle both ways..flight leaves at 1:50pm that Sunday so will hope to book it for around 11ish...

We always book Supershuttle's Execucar service. It is a private van (think: minivan) with a driver and there are no additional stops to pick up passengers. They know your flight # so if your flight is delayed they are not hanging out at the airport waiting for you. When we land in LAX we just call the # and someone is there in @ 5 minutes.
