It is very confusing and expensive as well. I needed to purchase 2 for my older daughters last Xmas, and I researched for weeks. They wanted the Nano of course, but everything I read said they had their problems. I decided on Creative- The Zen model. Holds more tunes then they can possibly store, and they haven't had any problems with it at all. In fact they thanked me for not getting the Nano and going with this. Bought it at Best Buy, and also got the added warrenty. :thumbsup2

And, as with all things on the DIS, I will counteract that and suggest an Ipod. I've had good luck with them, and when one of mine broke (I blame a bad charge in Mexico) it was replaced easily.

I would not trade my ipod for anything. Easy to use and the sound is incredible.

I agree.. big ipod fan here.....

BUT>>> I did get a SanDisk 512 MP3 Player for my 10 yr old last Christmas. It works great - easy to use and he loves it!

I third the sandisk player......

I have the 1 gb model and got it for around $50 on black friday last xmas.

What i really like is that it has a built in FM player too so i can listen to the tv's at the gym i go to that broadcast the audio to fm.

I decided on Creative- The Zen model.
We just bought this for DHs birthday- we got the 30 gig with video... it is great. The sound is so good. It was $255.
They have smaller ones that do mp3 and photos- I think that is what we will get for DD10 when the time comes (probably on her next birthday)

We are a big ipod family. I ahve an ipod video, DH has an ipod nano (4gb) and DD has a 1 gb nano. I find the ipods to be much better than the previous players we have owned (about 4 in the last 2 years) and itunes is very easy to use.

I don't have one yet but I signed up for a free checking account through KeyBank so I could get a free iPod Nano. I can't wait to get it and even better- it was FREE!!!! :cool1:

I have 3 Rio's in my family, we love them! I didn't like the Memorex I had for a while. My son has an RCA and likes it. I just prefer the Rio.

ok then, one more quick question.....

will all MP3 players read all mp3s? ex. will the ipod play the ones i have already downloaded, or must they come from iTunes?

I have the Creative Zen Micro...I absolutely love it. Small and very lightweight (and I also feel the sound quality is better than an iPod). One thing I like about the Creative ones is that you can replace the battery yourself. iPods don't have that option. If the battery dies, you either have to spend quite a bit to have it opened and replaced...or just buy a new one. All I did for mine was buy a couple of rechargeable batteries and reuse them. They have more features and you have a bit more freedom when it comes to downloading songs from various sources.

4 Ipods in this house: two 30g's and two nanos.

The battery issues that came from the 1st and 2nd gen Ipods are HISTORY. You are speaking about a battery problem that ocurred more than 3 years ago. Those battery issues came with Ipods before the click wheel, so thats not an issue. We've had five ipods in the house in the past 2 years and had no battery issues.

I have an iAudio G3 and absolutely love it. Not a fan of that hacky i-Tunes software, as I prefer non-proprietary solutions. The battery life in these units is truly amazing.

Actually not exactly "history". My DH works at Circuit City and encounters these problems all the time. as he works in the department where the iPods are sold. The reality is that batteries do and will die out over time...and no matter how great a brand iPod is, it will even happen to their batteries.

I just bought a SanDisk 2G from Amazon for $99. It has a voice recorder, and fm too.

I was all set to buy the iPod until I found out I couldn't put audio book downloads from the library on it. The library has free downloads that expire in 15 days. Due to the non-compatible proprietary software of the library stuff with the iPod made my decision to not buy the iPod.

I travel for work often and commute to work on a bus. I want the audio option, plus the fm ability is very nice.

Hard decision isn't it?

I have a friend that loves his SanDisk player as well.
