Moving to Florida

I'm American, living here for the past 7 years. I had quite the wait for my residency here if that makes you feel any better. :goodvibes

That's the difference between the U.S. and Canada. Anyone can come here and live and work but you can't do that in the U.S. You have to prove that no one else can do the job you want to do and forget moving there if you don't have a job!

That's not true. You have to qualify to live and work here too.

There are also ways to enter the U.S. You can invest in a business and enter with such a Visa and there are also Visas that people can qualify for in skilled fields. My daughter attends school in NYC, her boyfriend was just offered a job also in NYC that correlates to a particular Visa, I want to say an 'T2'? Something like that. It's a job related to his degree. My husband has 2 cousins also living and working in Manhatten. Of course, if you are employed with a U.S company that is also a shoe in as far as a job transfer.:confused3

It was quite a long process, actually, to get residency here in Canada. Seems that it's pretty similar guidelines between the two countries.

I agree that it's a long process to get residency, but while you were here you were allowed to work and didn't have to return to the U.S. six months out of every year. :) Unfortunately for us native Canucks, we can't just decide we want to move to Florida to live and work.

WDWMike, while I was here for two years waiting for my residency I was NOT allowed to work & I had to purchase my own health insurance. I'm lucky in that my situation worked out.

I didn't just decide to move here & was able to work the next day. As I've said before I believe it's similar moving in between the countries.

Thanks for your input & take care. I'm pretty much done discussing that.
