I selected not for a few years....we are Floridian's but haven't lived there for 12years because the Air Force has wanted us to be somwhere else. Most of our Family is there so I know we will end up there someday, maybe our next move in 2009!

I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to live in Florida. Ive wanted to live in Florida ever since I was a teenager, and Im almost 42 now ;)
I was brought up in the Chicago area. I lived there for 29 yrs until I got married, and then move to Va beach, Va.... I hated winters in Chicago, they were so damn cold and depressing. I didnt care that all my family members lived there. I just knew I wasnt meant to be a cold weather person. We have lived in Va beach for almost 13 yrs now. This area is much better in the winter then Chicago. It does get cold, but never had to shovel snow since Ive lived here. Summers are hot here and humid, but we have ac. I love Disneyworld, have been there about 13 times. I use to always joke that I wanted to live close by DW. Honestly I dont want to live that close, I want to live about an hour away. 3 yrs ago my parents decided to move to Florida(from Chicago), they live in S. Florida(Coconut creek). They really enjoy it. My dad loves it, my mom isnt crazy about the heat and humidity. So in my perfect world, I would love to live somewhere between Disney and where my parents live.
I even look at houses online and all that jazz. My husband does not want to move there, but would think about it. The company he works for has a place in Jacksonville as well. I dont want to live in Jacksonville.
Who knows.. maybe one day I will live closer to that mouse. I can always dream right? ;)

I already live here too. Given a choice I wouldn't have chosen to live here but I'm going to WDW five times this year, so I'd say I'm making the most of it! :thumbsup2

Wow...just visited the Florida Disaster - Wildfire website. I guess Florida has wildfires too. Gotta love the Earthquake responses. No, we won't know when the big one will come that is true. But at least I'm not boarding up my house a couple times each hurricane season hoping the hurricane takes a turn and slams into some other part of the state. At least CA can still get home owners insurance (for now).

We also have our issues...CA will fall into the ocean. Florida will just be covered up w/ water once all the glaciers melt....making both unliveable for the most part. Then Nevada and Georgia will become the garden spots we're fighting over.

There is not one perfect place to live. I am originally from New Orleans, and always dreamed of moving back home. Look what happened there. They weren't sure when the big one would come either.

Yes, we did our research, although dear partner wanted to move here to be near parents. I knew of the heat and the humidity and rain prior to moving here, just because I was aware doesn't mean that I have to accept.

Actually, I think you do have to either accept it or move.

I know that we Floridians are famous for amending the state Constitution with relation to everything from how baby pigs are treated on farms to how many kids will be in a classroom, but I think you might be fighting an uphilll battle if you expect us to change the state to make it more like San Francisco. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

For specialty foods have you tried The Whole Foods Market in Sarasota? We have these stores in Michigan and they are really great. DD and I are movimg to Florida hopefully next year and I did a search and they have several of these stores throughout Florida. They have fresh fish, large supply of wine and imported beer along with amazing pastries and organic fruits and veggies. Give this store a try. Susan

Susan,

I love whole foods, I used to have one 3 miles from my home. However, the nearest one like you said is in Sarasota, that's an hour away, maybe even longer each way. Unless we are headed in that direction, I probably couldn't/wouldn't justify the time, distance or gas.

Maybe I'll look into some of those speciality stores in Tampa some people mentioned.

I haven't even been here a month, I suppose I should give myself some time to adjust before I write off the area.

I love Florida and don't want to move. I live in Northern Florida just at the curve to the panhandle. We don't have the palm trees and sand and we don't usually have to board up our houses for all the hurricanes. It does get really hot, but usually it's just July and August that are really bad and the rest of the year has wonderful temperatures. Many of you don't like the heat, but I don't like the cold so if you asked me if I would consider moving up north, I would say "no, because it's cold in the winter!"

The bad part of where I live, though, is that it's not close enough to WDW!!!!

:sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: Can't get enough of Florida and Mickey is only part of it, I have ALWAYS hated the winter even as a little kid the universe made a BIG error with me having parents that grew up in NY. Money is all that is stopping me...I would move in a New York Minute :thumbsup2 (yes pun intended)

I do not like Florida (except WDW). I hate the heat and humidity. I do not understand the attraction. It is crowded, congested and now expensive. I know the coast is beautiful, but who can afford to live anywhere near it? Sorry, I'll stay in New England. DW though may have other opinions on it. JMHO Jay

I voted Other because we are there 6 months of the year now. when we are tired of skiing and DH can't hike in the mountains to fish any more we will be there full time - probably two or three years away.

I actually decided after my first time to Florida in 2000 that that is where I want to be.. Me and DF have decided when we retire that is where we want to go.. He does have family there.. Im crossing my fingers..

I voted Yes, today wouldn't be soon enough. And it wouldn't as far as I'm concerned but DH says no. With the cost of housing equal if not double to where we are now not to mention the job market not being able to support those mortgages, coupled with high homeowner's insurance if you can even get it DH says no way. We are moving South. Just not that far south. We're going to Upstate South Carolina. But it AIN'T no Florida! :guilty:

I have moved every 3 years for the last 12 and can say it takes at least 6 months before you start to like your new home and if this is the first big move that you have made then will be at least a year and maybe longer. I would say give it 2years before you make any decisions about moving again.

A great place to try is Alessis's Bakery in Tampa...it is a Bakery/Deli and is simply outstanding. Another pace would be Cacciatore Bros. Meat Market in Tampa, 2 locations Central Tampa and Town N Country. Great Meats and planty of ethnic Grocery Items.

Eeek! The pictures of the wildlife that crawls around Virgo10's house is enough to keep me from ever wanting to visit, let alone move there. :rotfl:

I already live in the nicest place. No need to move.

I voted "Other" because my dream is to be a "snowbird" when I retire.

Florida - November through April
Michigan - May through October

Not sure I could ever afford that lifestyle, but a girl can dream, can't she? :cloud9:

I like the snowbird plan too. Spend 6 months in FL and 6 months either here in the Midwest or in the Northeast.

I have vegan friends who live in the Tampa area. If you would like, I can ask them where they like to shop for Whole Foods type stuff.

Definitely give yourself more time to adjust to your new home. Change is hard.

We're moving to FL ... NOT SOON ENOUGH!!! I live in NJ so I'm sure we pay way more for EVERYTHING here!!! (Maybe not homeowners ...) I HATE TEMPERATURES UNDER 65 DEGREES!!! I REALLY HATE SNOW!!

DH said we'll buy a trailer ... if it blows away we'll just buy another one!!!

Our goal is to work in WDW!! :cloud9: :yay:

Already live here and love it!!!!!!!!! :sunny:
Moved here from Boston 7 years ago. Talk about high taxes, high car insurance rates, traffic, cold, snow......

Livin' the god life.
