Nice, but we have that here in CA too (for all I know, that photo was taken in CA). We also have Yosemite, Sierra Nevada Mtn Range, Lake Tahoe, scenic Wine Country, Monterey region, for those that like the desert....we have that too. Those just name a few.....heck....just ride Soarin' to see our natural beauty.

You can't compare the two (CA to FL) when talking about natural scenic beauty.

I like Florida, I just would not live there. Every state has their pluses and minuses. We have plenty of issues here in CA, but it's home.

It isn't hot and humid all year, just a few of the summer months. They winter months are glorious.

Seriously, people who live in Florida use air conditioning! When we are hot, we go inside. I always get a kick of statements like this. Many people think of Florida as being hot and humid based on their theme park experiences. It is much hotter walking around the theme parks. You are walking on cement or asphalt which soaks up the heat. I never feel like it is as hot in my neighborhood.

I get this from family all the time when I tell them i'm moving to Florida.I don't understand this because we are in Michigan and all winter long they are stuck in thier home's with the heat jacked up and complaining about the snow :confused3 I'd rather be stuck in the air conditioning during the day and still have the evening to get outside. The plan is to get a home with screened in swimming pool and in the winter while they are shoveling snow call and complain how awfull it is to be swimming in my pool :woohoo: . Susan

I actually took that at Ft. DeSoto park last weekend. just showing you FLA isn't all trees and swamps. no point in the state is farther than 60 miles from a coastline.

One of the benefits of my job is getting to see the US. I love being able to see different parts of the country. I got to see the Napa Valley a few months ago and it was beautiful. There is a lot to see in CA but I wouldn't want to live there.

The US is beautiful but I am glad that picked FL. to settle into. It all depends on what you like. I don't want everyone to move to FL. I want to keep it rustic in parts, theme parks, beaches. I don't want cement everywhere.

I love being able to go to the beach in a little over an hour. When I lived in PA if I wanted to go to the beach it was 9-10 drive. I don't find the summers any worse than when I lived in PA and here I have a/c. All my friends in PA are jealous when they call in January and I am picking tomatoes from my garden and am walking around in shorts.

At least in FL we don't have to worry about earthquakes.

Yes. But I'd rather live in California simply because California has it all. Yosemite is just breathtaking. The wine country. The Mendocino coast. San Francisco. Los Angeles. Disney. High Desert. Low Desert. Volcanic. Redwoods. Beaches. Mts. Whitney and Shasta. The Central Coast. No wonder housing is so expensive. That's the main drawback actually. The extremely expensive housing.

I'd love to move to Florida. But there are 2 things stopping me right now. I don't retire for another 7 1/2 years and this job is great so I won't move at least till then. My family lives here in Baltimore. I'd hate to move away from my Daughter and the rest of my family.

But in 7 1/2 years if my Daughter has moved out of the state I'll be heading to Florida.

As a wheelchair user I'd love to never have to deal with snow again. I actually love the heat here during the summer so I think I'd do fine in Florida heat. I like flat areas, being able to go for long walks without dealing with large hills would be great. Being 30-45 minutes away from WDW would be fantastic! I love thunderstorms. I can deal with the bugs and I like the lizards and other wildlife.

The only thing that worries me are the hurricanes and the possibility of long term global warming and ocean levels rising. But I don't plan on living near the coast so I probably don't have too much to worry about for hurricanes and I'll probably be long gone before central Florida is underwater(if it ever is).

Bill, if it looks like we are going underwater, I'll pick you up as I evacuate. I love Florida, but only the part above the waterline!

Right now, here, East of San Francisco, we are expereincing the longest hot spell ever! Over a week of 100 degree temps. So yes, I stay indoors in the A/C as much as possible. I am going stir-crazy! I love being outside, even if it's just in my backyard, but that's impossible, even in the evening. I feel so sorry for my 89 year-old Mother. She is just wilting - but at least she is not out in the heat. I have been to WDW at the end of October & loved the weather then. But the humidity is hard to take when you're not used to it. (the never cooling off at night is tough too)

I guess it's all in what you're used to! I have lived in California almost my whole life & I married a native, so we aren't going anywhere.

YUP!!

I voted "Other" because my dream is to be a "snowbird" when I retire.

Florida - November through April
Michigan - May through October

Not sure I could ever afford that lifestyle, but a girl can dream, can't she? :cloud9:

Florida's horrible, you don't want to live here...I mean its really bad!!

Ok seriously, I just dont want anyone else to move down here so I gotta say how bad it is because I refuse to leave!!! :thumbsup2

Im in the Tampa area now, but grew up in Orlando, plan to move back to Orlando very soon...it's MUCH different than Tampa or St. Pete, its just been tough trying to get college out of the way before I could move back.

Dont come to Florida in the Summer and expect that year round...not even close, Summer is the time we do stay indoors, so we can go outside the rest of the year in shorts and t-shirts!! I hate cold weather, would never want to live up north.

Also earthquakes and wildfires.

My screen name gives you my answer...... :teeth:

We just moved from NE Ohio to Vero Beach,Fl about 10 months ago. I was fortunate enough to take the early retirement(age 50) offer from GM after working the past 29 years. We are DVC members who visited the Disney Vero Beach resort the last 5-6 years and loved the area, and decided to move here.

The temperature here the last 6-7 weeks has been 86-88 degrees and SUNNY every day. We have a nice 10-15 mph ocean breeze every day, since we are 6-7 miles inland from the ocean. My wife and I sit on our lanai every night with a nice breeze. So even though the May-Sept months are a little warm, I will take that over ...

1.Snow
2.Potholes
3.scraping ice off windows
4.dirty cars for 6 months
5.raking leaves
6.driving on icy roads
7.Staying indoors from Nov-Apr
7.No sunshine in Ohio even in summer months

We love being a 10 minute ride to the beach, 90 minute ride to WDW, 45 minutes to Cape Canaveral. My sister lives 1 hour away in West Palm Beach.I love wearing flip flops and shorts year round.....

I will take our chances with hurricanes. We just built a home(Engle) with the latest buliding codes.Bought a generator, have hurricane shutters, etc. To me it is worth living in paradise year round, even if a hurricane comes every year or two. Before 2004 Vero Beach hadn't had a hurricane in over 40 years...

I voted no interest. I'm just fine staying in Texas as far as I'm concerned. I could make an exception for Arkansas and maybe parts of Louisiana but I have no interest in moving anywhere else.

Wow...just visited the Florida Disaster - Wildfire website. I guess Florida has wildfires too. Gotta love the Earthquake responses. No, we won't know when the big one will come that is true. But at least I'm not boarding up my house a couple times each hurricane season hoping the hurricane takes a turn and slams into some other part of the state. At least CA can still get home owners insurance (for now).

We also have our issues...CA will fall into the ocean. Florida will just be covered up w/ water once all the glaciers melt....making both unliveable for the most part. Then Nevada and Georgia will become the garden spots we're fighting over.

I must say that California is a VERY lovely state and it would be fun to live there. I couldn't imagine it though unless we somehow won the lottery. :(

I love Florida. My DH loves Florida. I wonder how the POLL would turn out if you said NEW ENGLAND.

We are soooo tired of the winters here. They are wayyyy to long. They are wayyyy to cold. We go to FL every winter for 3 weeks and cry when we have to come back home. The days are nicer in Florida. The days are longer in Florida. The weather is nicer in Florida. WE ARE MOVING TO FLORIDA sooner than later. We are both 52yo and would like to retire but sooner than 60yo. My DH is a Licensed Prof Eng and Licensed Prof Land Surveyor and he is currently filling out all the pertinent paperwork with the state of Florida to get his licenses down in Florida so we can work in the state as PE and PLS!!!

:thumbsup2

Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

Heat, humidity, fires, bugs, snakes, alligators, hurricanes, traffic, too much sun (not enough shade), no basements, no signifigant season change........

But you do have some plusses too. No snow.

My response is based on MANY visits to FL, not just WDW. DMIL lives on the east coast -- New Smyrna Beach. We've been in all seasons & experienced daily life, not tourist life.

San Diego is a beautiful area, I love it there. Los Angeles is the most overrated and overpriced place I've visited, with the exception of New York.

I'd love to visit NorCal, but can't talk my wife into it yet. I'd love to tour the wine country. Yosemite is also on my places to visit.
