moving from a one bedroom to a studio to save points?

This is probably not a new question, but I don't recall anyone asking it before. We recently bought DVC, and only have 150 points. Are we allowed to move from a one bedroom to a studio over a weekend, and then back to the one bedroom during the week? I know that this will bea hassle for us and for them , but if we can do this it will certainly extend our vacation. Any input on this topic would be very much appreciated!

You certainly can. Just reserve a studio for Fri & Sat nights instead of a one bdrm. OF course, you'll need to go through the check-in proceedure for each room change, since new keys need to be issued, etc. And there is the possibility that your new room won't be ready until after 4pm, while you need to vacate your current room by 11am. You can store your luggage with bell services. You can even simply spend weekends off-site at a reasonable hotel. Another option would be spending the weekends for cash in your 1 bedroom, or at another Disney resort. While we added on enough points to avoid this situation (moving isn't our thing), I considered it for our December trip. I got an e-card code from Disney with a terrific rate, but I left the decision up to my Mom, and she just doesn't want the hassle.

Sure. The "hassle-factor" is high, though. There's no guarantee of the new room being available when you check out of the first unit. Having everything stored by Bell Services for up to 5 hours could probably be done, however. Lots of people move to a cash-ressie on Friday (on- or off-site), then back to DVC on Sunday. All that moving would ruin my reasons for a vacation, and I got enough points to stay put for the weekends.

(Which is what Chuck just said while I was typing!)

If you can afford it, you may want to see if a cash room is available for the weekend nights. Member services can sometimes offer it at 25% off. If you book through member services, you will not have to move.

We are doing just that this next weekend. Us "small contract" folks need to be creative sometimes :) To squeak a few MORE points, we are starting at OKW and then moving to BWV come Monday.

PS: of course, to REAAAALLY save points we could have stayed at the airport... we fly in Saturday eveniing and really won't be able to soak up the charm of OKW. But HEY, I'm on vacation and want to get to "home" as soon as possible.

We are spending Friday and Saturday nights in 2 rooms at Pop Century we are a family of 6. On Sunday we move to OKW in a 2 bedroom for 5 nights. When you checkout Bell services will have your luggage moved for you its pretty simple. This also gives you the opportunity to see various resorts. Hope this helps

Yes, we have done it a couple of times to save points. However, it gets "old" real fast. The first time wasn't so bad. The second time we missed our one bedroom even more. One thing we've done is plan our next trip at a lower point time of year so that we can stay in a 1 BR for all 6 nites for fewer points than 1 BR for 5 nites, studio for 1 nite when we went last time. However, I realize that flexibility of time of year travel isn't always an option. Yes, we do have to be creative about saving points-hope we can afford more points soon!

We just booked a Studio for our Saturday arrival night in December. On Sunday we move over to a 2B (other family members are joining us--don't worry, we aren't cramming 6 into a Studio :)) at SSR for the rest of the week.

We're driving, so have already planned our arrival for 4pm so we can get right into the room and make the most of our evening at BCV.

We usually fly out on Friday's after work, arriving somewhere between 6-midnight at the resort. We stay in a studion for the first 2 nights, then move to a 1 bedroom. Both to save points and with the new policy of first come first room selected, this works for us. We check out on Sunday and move to the new resort and get a better (we feel) selection on room availability.

If we have a special occasion trip, then we would just plan on the weekend points and not move.

Yes of course. I usually move out on Friday and Saturday to the Hilton in DD. I refuse to pay more than twice the price for a room on the weekends.

Thanks for all the great posts! All of you have some great and creative alternatives that I had not thought about. Yes, we are hping to add more points in three years! Thanks again.
