OMG, I just dropped my DD and her friends at the movies, it was $10.25 for the bargin matinee :scared1:

This is going to be an expensive week!

We went to see Oz 3D last week - $18 a ticket! I was shocked, I don't remember it ever being that much before

I saw Oz this past weekend, 3d on the IMAX &54 for 3 people. $18 a ticket?! Safe to say I won't be going back to the movies for a little while

We go once a week to the movie - $12.50 a person, $17.50 if VIP (loveseats, alcohol etc).

Pretty cheap entertainment - we do a lot of concerts, plays, and opera.

We do not go to the movies and haven't in many years.

We can buy a DVD that we can watch over and over for about the same cost as 2 tickets, or sometimes less.

Tiger

We often just wait for the DVD and buy them.

This isn't the only reason though, my oldest has some sensory issues and couldn't even handle the movies until about 3 years ago. It still isn't his favorite thing to do.

I would have paid for them to go with friends too though.......

We clearly live in the wrong city-your cinema sounds much more enjoyable than what we have here!!

Yep, I very rarely go to the movies anymore, maybe once every three months if that, because of the price. For the whole family, even if we sneak in our own snacks, it is $50 at least.

Around here, the first show of the day is often labelled the "early bird matinee", which usually runs "only" $8 or so for a 2D movie. Of course, those shows are sometimes at 11am or even earlier.

And we can do the local drive-in that shows 1st run movies for $7.50 per person - and that usually gets you a double feature.

So those two ways are pretty much the only way we go to the movies these days. During the summer especially, the drive-in is the way to go - but it gets a bit cold during the winter.

I don't know if it's just my screwed up middle-aged eyes or not, but I'm not that impressed with the 3D movies so I don't bother with them. They aren't worth the extra cost to me. We stick to the 2D versions.

regular price at my theater is $5 matinee, $7 evening. Additional $2.50 for 3d.

Buy Fandango cards from gift card resellers! I frequently buy them for 25% off face value. We also eat first! And for a treat, it's cheaper to take the kids out for ice cream after (or have it at home) then buy the snacks there, plus it helps avoid the mindless eating habit.
Still we used to go alot more, for what you get for your money for most movies, I would rather wait for when they come out at redbox or netflix and do something else with our entertainment dollars.

3d movies always make me feel dizzy, headachy and nauseous. So we stick to the cheaper 2D or mom stays home!

We go to the cheapie theater once in a while ~ $1.50 before noon/all day Tuesday, $2.50 before 6PM, $3.99 evening, $1 additional for 3D.

Currently playing: Escape from Planet Earth, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Les Miserables, Parental Guidance, Jack Reacher, Life of Pi, Wreck it Ralph & Lincoln.

Same name theater, different location that has the following currently playing: The Croods (reg & 3D), Olympus Has Fallen, Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Oz, Jack the Giant Slayer, Escape from Planet Earth & A Good Day to Die Hard

Prices for "current" movie theater:
Monday Through Thursday
Before 6 $4.75
After 6 $6.50
Military and Seniors $6.25
Does Not Include Holidays or Special Engagements

Fri, Sat, Sun and Holidays
Before Noon $4.75
Matinee 12-6 $6.00
Evening* $8.25
Seniors and Military $6.25
Children $4.75 (all shows)

Wacky Wednesday (All Shows)
Does Not Include Special Engagements (as indicated on movie schedule)
$3.50

3D Charge for Adults $2.00
3D Charge Children 12 & Under $1.50

I'd rather just buy the Blu-ray if I'm pretty sure I'm gonna like the movie rather than pay to see it at a theater.

It is crazy!

Our local theater at least offers $5 matinees before six during the week and before noon on the weekends. So, we see most of our movies at 11:30am on Saturday.

The concession prices are even more outrageous. At our local theater, a small popcorn and drink is $11!!!! Nothing like selling a 1000% markup with a smile. Luckily I can usually convince DH to split the kids pack which is "only" $6.

It's $11.00 to see a 2D movie before 5pm here.

I'm not sure what the cost is for evening movies. I haven't seen an evening movie in years and years.

I want to see the new Olympus has fallen movie but so does the rest of the family so that would be 44.00 in movie tickets alone. And you can't bring in our own snacks or drinks so adding another 30.00 in for that and it's an expensive movie.
I had so hoped I would get to go to it alone. LOL

Our concessions are pretty reasonable too. A large popcorn (that I could fit in the bucket of) and 2 large drinks is about $11.50 I think. And those include unlimited refills. Easily enough for my family of 4.

Here's it's 8 bucks before 4pm, 12 bucks after. This is why we just wait for the DVD's. Buy it the first week it's out, it's usually $15 or so. Anything I'm unsure about, I hold out for a big sale.

Anything we don't love can be sold back to a site like Secondspin.com for a few bucks, making it way cheaper to just wait for the DVD.

Plus, the movies have gotten so annoying with all the ads, the people talking and using their phones, etc. it's not worth the price. At home I can pause, rewind, eat what I want, and go to the bathroom when I want.

I haven't been in awhile but I think it's around 10.00 per ticket. It's the concession that is horrendous. If we buy drinks and candy and popcorn we can easily spend $80 or more to go see a movie:rolleyes2

However, we still have a drive-in near here so in the summer it's 15.00 for a carload, the concession is reasonable and it's a fun tradition that my kids love.

I go to the movies almost every Tuesday. Regal offers $5 movies all day Tuesday (additional charge for 3D) and if you're a Reward member, when you buy your ticket you get a printout for a $2 small popcorn ($3 for medium, $4 for large) so my Tuesday's I do a sushi lunch and then a $7 movie after before racing to pick up the kids from school. I've also been known to take my 2 oldest girls to a Tuesday movie after school. You just can't beat $5 for any movie (except 3D but that hurts my eyes so it's a no-go for this family).
