Movies $$

Buy Fandango cards from gift card resellers! I frequently buy them for 25% off face value. We also eat first! And for a treat, it's cheaper to take the kids out for ice cream after (or have it at home) then buy the snacks there, plus it helps avoid the mindless eating habit.
Still we used to go alot more, for what you get for your money for most movies, I would rather wait for when they come out at redbox or netflix and do something else with our entertainment dollars.

This exactly... I have Hulu + Netflix and many other movie options for at home. AND I don't have to eat during a 1.5-2 hour movie at home, why should I spend the ridiculous costs to have something just because I am at a theater.

It's $8.50 regular, $7 matinee and $6.50 for a budget matinee (4pm) here. For $20 you can buy a plastic bucket that is good for the rest of the year for $3.50 refills. The bucket is a bit bigger than a large.

When I go, I go with my daughter Mon-Thurs- since she is a junior in the local fire dept she has fire dept ID and gets into any movie she wants as many as she wants plus a guest Mon-Thurs! Its great in the summer she can go all the time plus bring a friend for free. Its at the local multiplex too so there are 12 movies playing to choose from!

We went to see Oz 3D last week - $18 a ticket! I was shocked, I don't remember it ever being that much before

I am thankful my kids HATE 3D movies! I just took my youngest to see The Croods yesterday, and we went to see the regular old movie without Digital, or IMAX, and it was $6.50 per ticket for a matinee. This was a SF price too, which is typically higher than the rest of the country. For the two of us, I paid $6.50 for my ticket (we had one free pass), and $11.50 for popcorn and sodas (had the $3 bucket which I purchased at the beginning of 2013 which is good for the year), and two small sodas.

So, for the two of us to see the movie yesterday it was $18. I love the Cinemax Summer Movies, if you buy the tickets ahead of time they're .50 each. The movies are second run, but my youngest doesn't care since it's still going to the movies. Otherwise, it's $1 per ticket which is ridiculously cheap. I'll take 10 movies for $5!

I go about once a month, on Tuesday only to get the special. It's $10.75, but that includes a medium popcorn and drink! I usually go alone (DH stays home with our toddler) and knit and watch the movie, and it's thoroughly enjoyable for me. Totally worth it! popcorn::

At AMC here you can see a movie most days for $5 before a certain time (maybe noon?)....that is the only time that we would go and even then we probably go to 5 -7movies at most during the year.

Otherwise, I'll get it on a blu-ray from Redbox for $1.25 and watch it in my basement on my 57 inch LED tv....where I can pause, get free snacks and dont have to deal with annoying talkers/phone users.

We have three favorite theaters here:

Our "dollar show" - actually $1.50, or 75¢ on Mondays. Second run movies. We buy a popcorn bucket for $6, and get $3 refills for the year.

Our "dinner theater" - first run, can buy food (sandwiches, etc). Always on Groupon for $5, movie plus a large drink.

Our "drive in" - always on Tuesdays, $14 a car full. Usually take van and a few friends...bring a pizza:)
