I took my kids and their friends to the movies today, and I ALWAYS bring in our own snacks. DD has bad food allergies so I just feel safer with food from home.

Well, they stopped me at the entrance and told me I couldnt bring in any outside food and they pointed out the sign.

Here is the reason why---someone slipped on a Skittle candy and sued the theatres, and they dont sell Skittles. I spoke with the manager and she said "I know it sounds frivolous but this is the kind of society we live in now"

So I left my fruit loops and juice boxes at the door and we watched the movie. Then we ate our snack in the car on the way home.

I actually tought this had been standardpolicy for awhile now. But I also thought it was bc the theatre wanted you to buy their food.

There's a policy here too; no outside food can be brought in.

Doesn't stop most people though.

It's a policy here too. I believe it always has been. Selling snacks is how theatres make money.

That is what sweatshirts with pockets were made for.

Or big purses with multiple pockets.

Especially if your kid has food allergies.

Same here. I once saw a man kicked out because he brought in a drink from a fast food restaurant and refused to toss it out. Of course, they did not stop him till AFTER they sold him a ticket and he was about to enter the theater.

Some suggestions, put your snacks in plastic sandwich bags. They make less noise and draw less attention to you. Soda in cans make a lot of noise when dropped and hit every seat post ALL the way down the theater, I know this from fact. Plastic bottles are much better. If you look up at the projector room they often have a mirror they can see below them. Wait for the lights to go off before enjoying your contraband.

I usually purchase a soda and bring in some candy or chips, yes chips. Pringles work well.

Oh yeah, if you break the seal on your soda in the car before entering the theater, it will also make less noise.

;)

someone slipped on a Skittle...that person was DUMB...the thing is SOO small

I bet it's a ruel here but they don't check your purse so you stuff it in there or in your pocket!
espically if they have a food allergy!

wow, that's been a rule at the theatres i have gone to since i was like 10.

i agree though, the places i've been to, you can just put it in a big purse or something. :)

Its always been a rule around here as well.

I vote for the big purse, or skipping snacks all together. :)

It's always been the rule around here too, but we followed it just about as well as everyone else. :D

Just the opposite -- I know of a theatre in Atlanta where patrons can (at least at one time they could) bring in outside food but only from the mall food court. That has been the only exception to the rule that I have heard of.

Slipped on a Skittle???? Please!! I would think the Skittle would crush under someone's foot before being a hazard. Besides, like the McDonalds coffee lady, I'm sure that would have been in the news. That was probably an excuse they concocted instead of saying "we don't allow outside food so you can buy our snacks at a heavy markup."

Oh, in the wintertime when it's jacket weather, I usually split the difference and sneak in a 20-oz Coke and some candy and buy the popcorn there.

We buy the popcorn and the drink and sneak in candy.

I'll admit to jelly beans in the purse(already open).A knapsack wokrs for sneaking snacks in as well(especially with the bookstore bag peeking out)

We buy our popcorn and soda there and get the extra large sizes, and then I bring in extra cups for scooping out the popcorn and sharing and we just pass the drink back and forth (just between family) until it runs out and then we go get the free refills. BUT, I have to have M&M's with my popcorn, and those I bring from home...along with whatever candy the kiddos want.

I think the only movie place that would allow you to bring your own food is the drive-in.

At the theaters my sister worked for she said she occasionally could tell if someone was sneaking in food, but as long as they at least made an attempt to conceal it they wouldn't stop them. The people carrying in bowls of popcorn on the other hand...

It is a rule here too! We don't usually get anything to eat at the movies though.

I just went to an IMAX with our little guy yesterday. I bought some popcorn at the counter but took in a small bottle of fruity water from home.......:D :D

It's a rule at our theatre too. I buy their popcorn, take water
bottles and candy of my own(trick or treat candy until at least
Easter). In the summer, the kids always fill out the AMC
readers form and get free snaks. Then I only have me to
buy for and I get a small popcorn and take my own water
bottle.
