Kevin was talking about this movie on this week's podcast. I had never even heard of it, so I looked it up on Amazon. It gets RAVE reviews there. It's a Disney movie, I don't understand how I could have never heard of it....did it do well at the box office? Would kids enjoy it? I'm going to check Best Buy, if they don't have it in the store, I'm going to order it off Amazon. I'm so curious to see it now even though I'm not a fan of Christian Bale.

Oh gosh...if you were a teenage girl in the mid-90's you saw this movie. :) Yes...I remember it vividly. Great sleepover movie!

I haven't heard the podcast yet- but of course I saw Newsies! "I'm the King of New York" is still in our Disney Mix on our Ipod. Yes, kids would like it.

I wish! :lmao:

I was a teenage girl in the early 80's ... Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, St. Elmo's Fire.....

I LOVE the Newsies. It was a favorite in my high school, and the music always made me happy. It also gives you a chance to see a very young Christian Bale.

However, I don't think it did well at the box office at all. I think I saw on IMDB that it was the least successful Disney live action movie ever, or something like that. I don't think live action musicals were terribly popular around that time, even though I could be wrong.

I have the soundtrack somewhere, but hearing Christian Bale's "New York" accent is disturbing. LOL

I could listen to "Sante Fe" over and over again....in fact, I just did. :rotfl2:

The soundtrack just happened to be on my iPhone. :lmao:

I guess I was one of the few who saw it in the theaters. During my freshman year of high school. I was so jealous of the people in the movie because I knew that me and my best friend were perfectly suited to play those parts. I have it on VHS somewhere!

I was married with small kids in the 90's, but I loved it and danced around my livingroom with tiny Max the intern:cool1:

I haven't seen it yet, but I did read a couple of months ago that Disney is staging it on Broadway.

Oh, and I believe the actor who played Doogie Howser's sidekick was also in the film.

Nothing like watching a young Christian Bale sing his little heart outXDD

Just realized I have this on VHS in the garage somewhere....

It's been awhile since I've seen it but if I remember right, the movie itself kind of stinks. Bad acting, bad accents, etc....

BUT

The music and dancing is AWESOME!! I just about screamed when Kevin said "Seize the Day" is one of his favorite songs! MINE TOO!!!!!! So much so that I teach it to my chorus kids just about every year!!!!

It was choreographed (and maybe directed? I'm too lazy to look it up) by Kenny Ortega who also went on to do a little franchise called High School Musical.

Christian Bale is in it (he as a late teen at the time). I found that weird. But it was a great movie.

Count me in as a fan of "Seize the Day", too. ;)

I have it on my iPod as one of those compilation CDs "Classic Disney Volume (insert volume number here)" from the Disney Store in the 1990s. "Seize the Day" made me go buy the DVD of the movie during its most recent release.

While the movie itself is ok, the musical numbers shine. You can definitely see Kenny Ortega's influence there.

Love, love, LOVE this movie!!:love::love::love::love:

I hope they bring it to Broadway. It's a fantastic show with an amazing and adictive musical score and wonderful choreo.

I let a fellow Disney fan borrow mine because they had never seen it...I haven't seen it since. :( I need to investigate where it might have gotten off to.
