I've been doing some research and I'm amazed at how this is in almost everthing. I've eliminated it and feel much better and have started losing weight as well. I'm just curious is anyone else is doing this?

but its in EVERYTHING - even what they call organic or natural.

I have found bread but not ketchup. even heinz refuses to take it out of their so called organic ketchup. I have a really nasty email from the Heinz corporation about the MYTH surrounding high fructose corn syrup - and how people need to reframe from over eating.

I had sent them a request, even said I would be willing to pay more for a quality ketchup with out high-fructose corn syrup. With it I sent two articles that said, high fructose corn syrup chemically, makes you hungrier, and the high content consumed unknowingly, has been pin pointed as the probable cause of diabeties. I made them angry.

I'm going to try to find catsup at Whole Foods, or worse case, learn to make it myself. I agree that this stuff is such a culprit when it comes to weightloss.

My DH and I have gone to Europe twice, both times for three weeks. We lost 15 pounds (each time) and we were eating quite well. Our pants were falling off of us the last few days.

I made a wonderful chocolate cake for DH birthday the other day. Made it with REAL sugar and even cream for the ganache. All I could manage was one small piece.

Sorry I ended up ranting. I just really want to know if other folks are finding this to be a problem for them.

We've been trying as well. I was really suprised about a thread on the family thread on when to give children their first soda (made up of almost entirely corn syrup) Alot of people talked about how they thought it was okay for really young children to have it for dinner. Of course, what they think for their kids is best, but I wondered how many people have read the ingredients and sugar content?

DH has a passion against this stuff....what type of bread is no HFCS? I make my own every other day to avoid it.... Trader Joes ketchup is HFSC free.....it is crappy..... I hate all the yogurts out on the market made with this stuff.....

We are trying to eliminate HFCS. I just bought Kirkland brand (Costco) multigrain bread, and it doesn't use HFCS (sweetened with brown sugar.) But many of their breads do contain them, you must read.

I know there is one supermarket brand without them - but I can't remember if its Sara Lee or Pepperidge Farm.

I do not know about the ketchup, as we don't use a lot of it, but here's a recipe to try:

We are also trying to eliminate trans-fats, specifically hydrogenated oil. I have been buying/eating 4C bread crumbs my whole life, and recently read the label - partially hydrogenated oil! All of the supermarket bread crumbs had them, which makes sense as it makes the product shelf stable. So I made my own. They are WAY better than store bought (not cheaper, but better - lots of parmagiano reggiano, whole wheat bread from my bread maker, and loads of herbs .) I store it in the freezer.

Some lady was screaming at me the other day in the snack aisle in Big Lots about how all these foods that contain HFCS was probably going to make my kids diabetic. She said I should really watch out for it. Then she says she doesn't need to watch it because she's almost 70, and it wouldn't make any difference.:rotfl2:

I just checked my Sara Lee bread and it does have it, I have to say I was really surprised, I thought it didn't. :sad2:

I stood and looked through every loaf of bread in walmart one day and the only one that I found without HFCS was Nature's Own 100% whole wheat. I haven't bought any other kind since I found it.

It seems every time I turn around someone is talking about HFCS. I am just started to investigate the stuff and how we can eat healthier. Any suggestions on books/articles to read?

Do we need to cut it out altogether or modify? Hmmm.

I know I need to do this, but I'm feeling pretty lazy about it.

Consider yourselves fairly lucky that you're not allergic to corn! A friend of mine is allergic to corn and that has eliminated a TON of things she can eat!

I eliminate HFCS when I can, but if something has some, I don't freak out.

There was a short blurb in Family Circle about HFCS and how it can make you hungrier. I know it's a key ingredient in soda, and I haven't had much soda since. I haven't looked at the other items in my pantry.

This is one of the reasons my friend that has the corn allergy loves to travel to Europe. Their coke products don't have HFCS in them! They use just sugar and she can have those.

I eliminated it for a long time when I went low glycemic and ate 6 times a day. I felt much better, my energy levels were more stable, and the weight melted away. My cravings for junk food also went away.

HFCS is among the top worst things for us.

Whole Foods ketchup as well as Trader Joes = no HFCS. Not bad in taste , in my opinion !

In a nutrition class I was in a couple of years ago, my professor said that it was after companies started replacing sugar with high fructose corn syrup that the obesity rates began to skyrocket. This began in the late 1970s-early 80s. When I thought about it, I realized that she was right. It's involved but has to do with the way sucrose is digested in the body compared to the way fructose is digested.

This was me growing up. Not only corn but beans, nuts, oranges, eggs, mustard, lamb, oats and potatoes.

And you are right corn syrup is in EVERYTHING. Once you figure out all the names they use for it on the labels you will soon find that only one in 10 items doesn't have corn syrup.

GNC was my life saver when it came to candy as they had a few things that I could eat (which wasn't much)!

I was lucky that I grew out of all of my allergies except eggs and oranges (and possibly lamb -- won't try it to test it out). My throat would swell and I had a hard time breathing.

I always feel better when I watch the number of carbs that I eat and corn syrup has a ton of carbs.

Yes- Natures Own 100% WW- that's the only bread I can find at Publix without it. Also, check your yogurt. My ds5 LOVES it but I had to search to find one without HFCS that he'd eat. It's Dannon All Natural -only three flavors but he loves the blueberry. Also, NutriGrain Eggo waffles don't have it.

One of the best books I have read on the subject, for laymen, is Fat Land by Greg Critser. It explains the politics behind, as well as the biological effects of, HFCS.

Here is a link to it on amazon:

I took it out of my library. Fascinating to read about his theories behind America's obesity epidemic, and he claims much of it has to do with HFCS.
