MouseSavers GPS files updated

Hi all,

I just wanted to let folks know that I've done an update to the MouseSavers GPS POI files. There are no huge additions, just some updates and changes to names of some hotels, a few phone number and address changes, and listings for new restaurants in the World. If you have the file installed on your GPS, now would be a good time to update.

For those who haven't heard about them, these free files contain better Points Of Interest (POI) for your Garmin, TomTom, or Magellan GPS for driving around Walt Disney World. They are more accurate than the points built into most GPS units, and generally take you directly to the driveway of the location in question. On Garmins, they also include addresses and some location notes, and on Garmins and TomToms they include phone numbers that can be dialed if you have your GPS connected to your cellphone via Bluetooth.

Basically I made these files for myself several years ago largely as a project to figure out how to make GPS POI files, but I thought others might find them useful. Luckily, my sister owns MouseSavers and offered to host them.

I keep thinking that the GPS manufacturers are going to improve their POI points within WDW and make these files unnecessary. In fact they do get better from year to year, but so far there are still significant problems even with the latest maps. I think I can say with confidence that the points in my files will work better than the ones built in to current GPS units.

I'll say thanks as well to Don - but I can't use the POI file anymore since I used Navigon on my iPhone now. No way I know of to get that file downloaded to a (non jailbroken) iPhone!

But your file was always a great help to us when using our Garmin!

(PS - I didn't know Mary was your sister! What a helpful duo you are.)

Thanks for the POI.

A suggestion. The hotels, restaurants etc are for locations that are mousesaver preferred. I'm sure you'd get far too many suggestions if you asked for ideas. Every chain restaurant seems to have multiple Orlando locations.

A thought. Some places (Sweet Tomatoes and I think Steak N Shake) have locations closer to Universal. Considering adding the additional locations for establishments that already make your list.
