My family and I, Are staying at cbr next year and I've noticed a few people mention daily tips for mouse keeping. Is this something I should be doing ? I was planning on leaving something at the end of the holiday, is that better or should it be daily ?
Also, how much is the normal ? I had seen someone mentioned they left boxes of chocolates every day, is that a better idea ? Thanks

Only if it's something you want to do. Is it necessary? No. Whether to tip housekeeping or not is a personal decision and the topic can get sometimes get heated here.

If you were going to tip, IMHO it's better to tip daily as you probably won't have the same housekeeper the entire trip. So whoever is your housekeeper on the last day could get a great tip even though they were not the one who serviced your room during the trip.

Also, how much is the normal ?

Whatever you feel is appropriate. Some people leave $1-$2 per person per day. Others leave more. It's a personal thing.

Again, it's what you would like to do.

Tipping is optional for housekeepers. If you choose to do it, it's better to tip each day, as you may get a different housekeeper each day. $1-2 per person per day seems to be the most commonly tipped amount.

And if you don't really need that, you can call Housekeeping and tell them that you won't need them. That way they can get on with their jobs and not keep checking back to see if your room still has the hangtag on it.

They might still bring the bag of stuff, but I'm not sure I'd guarantee that, if you call to let them know you don't need services.

We tipped four or five dollars every day. I packed the tips in envelopes before we left for WDW so I didn't have to worry about having the right change before running out in the morning.

Thanks folks. I just didn't want to offend the house keepers by doing the wrong thing. Being from the UK, the culture of tipping can be confusing, I want to make sure I get it right .I only mentioned the chocolates, because that particular reviewer had reported their house keeper enjoyed that. Sounds like daily envelopes is the way to go. Is there a correct way of doing it ? Leave it on the table ? Addressed to house keeping ? Again, I don't want to mess it up and offend them. Thanks

We usually leave them some place on the bathroom sink where they can't miss it. I usually just leave cash sitting out under a used glass. That makes it pretty obvious.

We also do the $5 a day. I bring as many 5 dollar bills as needed for this reason in separate envelopes. On the last day, altho I don't add more money to the envelope, I write a nice thank you on that envelope for all their hard work and for making our stay a great one. Everyone needs a pat on the back now and then!

I have to ask, and am not trying to start an argument or be rude. Is this something that you do uniquely (maybe a word) at Disney resorts, or do you tip at all hotels this way for housekeeping? I travel a good bit in my work, and have never tipped a housekeeper, although I do tip bellman, etc. I always tip waiters and waitresses, but again these are people that depend on tips.

If this is unique to Disney, I am just curious as to why. I have never seen anything of particular difference in the way the hotel rooms at Disney are cleaned any more than when I stay at Westin or Mariott.

If we're staying multiple days at the same hotel we always leave a tip. It may or may not make a difference.

When Disney housekeepers accept their positions they know that officially their position is UNtipped. Disney does not consider it a tippable job, not like Bell or servers. BUT it's something many do. But please don't worry about offending them. If they are offended by a bit of extra, shouldn't be expected, money, that's on them.

It is not unique to Disney at all. I have been tipping housekeeping since I've stayed at hotels. I had been tipping housekeeping since before 1994, definitely (when I remember a tipping incident lol where my mom had set out the tip for our set of suites during my brother's wedding but the housekeeper scrounged through my stuff to pick up the pennies etc I had dumped out of my purse along with tissues etc as I prepared for the wedding that morning...uncool since the tip was in the living room of the suites ).

Anyway, not new, not a Disney thing.

This is exactly as I do as well. We leave $5 per day and prep our envelopes before our stay. I date each envelope and it is clearly marked for Mousekeeping and I leave the envelope on the bed. I tip at any hotel I stay - not just Disney. Although many of the housekeeping at hotels is not technically a tipped position, I have personally done this job and believe me, the tip is appreciated and sorta makes up for the sometimes unbelievable messes others leave for them to clean up. :crazy2:

It is not required to tip Mousekeeping but we do it anyway. They try to add a little Disney magic to our trip and I appreciate not having to make beds or clean the bathroom each day, but we all pick up after ourselves before we leave our rooms...we all hate chaos! We (3 rooms, 9 people) are staying CL and have turn down service also so I have made special Disney character envelopes, inserted the tips for each AM & each PM day for all 3 rooms and have them in my carry-on already. DGDs get to put them out each time we leave the room in the AM & PM after naps. I did this on our last trip and it was so nice not to have to think about how much tip to put in each morning nor did I have to worry DH had not spent the tips money! LOL.

Is the five dollars a day the standard amount if you rent a DVC villa too? Or does that just cover regular hotel rooms?
