You will need a watch, and the time flies by and leave enough time to get back to your marina.

How old does one need to be to drive these boats?

I don't really know how old but I bet a teenager would qualify. I know we love to rent them. They are so much fun.

There have been a lot of posts lately that have said you need to be 16 to drive the sprites at the seven seas resorts. I'm pretty sure there's no age limit if an adult is driving we took my DS son when he was two (he loved it but said he got the slow boat my DH was afraid to go fast he thought he'd scare him, lol)

For the boats at the Wilderness Lodge, Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floridian, you must be sixteen in order to drive. They ask for identification and you must sign a form (can't remember exactly what the form said, though!!) You can take a passenger of any age - each person must wear a life jacket, and they are provided at the dock. There is a brief training session at the dock and you are told where you may and may not drive. It is so much fun!!!! But you must obey the rules for safety's sake - and a word of advice -take a plastic bag of some sort if you have a purse or cell phone. We had an "incident" with a wave from the ferry and I ended up having to buy a new cell phone!!!!

I also recommend you take a camera. During my impromptu "escape from reality trip" last year, I rent out one of the water sprites and took it for a spin for an hour or so. I hadn't done that since I was a teenager and had a blast. I took along a camera and got shots of the hotels from from a different angle than you mostly see.

There are also large clocks at the entrances to the marinas which can help you keep track of time.

allears.net says that at the boardwalk and at dtd you only have to be 12 and 5 ft to rent your own. :) i wonder of the higher age at the lagoon is because of the ferry.

Hmmmm...I think it is licensed driver and not just age sixteen. Possibly wrong about that though, so I'd call to be sure. You can seat two people in a boat - the seats are molded plastic with room for two only (and no, I don't think they would let you have anyone on your lap or put two small children in one saet.) I have read other threads about this that say the boats at the Boardwalk are an older version with not as much power, so 12 and up can drive them, but the Wilderness Lodge ones are newer and faster so need older drivers.

Yes at the Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon marinas the driver must be licensed driver and have license with them. This is due to the change in the type of boat used and the fact a very serious accident occured involving young drivers.

The boats will hold 2. The age limit is lower at other location.

The boats are fun, just be careful and realize a boat does not have brakes. Avoid the larger boats especially the large ferries on the Lagoon at MK.
