MOTORCYCLES: Average gas mileage?

Anyone have a motorcycle? With the price of gas lately, DH thinking of getting a used one to use for work during summer instead of his SUV.

I know the insurance cost since I worked that for 12 yrs. But wondering what the average mileage is on a motorcycle.

You know, I was just thinking the same thing this week.
Some of the ones I saw were up in the 50 MPH range, but these were the "highway legal" scooters, so YMMV depending on engine size; these were 400-600 CC's.

Edit to add, I did a search, and it seems that the larger engines, 1600 cc, gets the lowest, which is still about 35 MPH. From there they run up to the 50 MPH, and anywhere in between. Here's the site, you can look up each model, it seems pretty comprehensive.

My ex had one forever, he still does but it's not drivable. The gas mileage is usually much better than a car and especially something bigger.

But I do have to add here. So many people aren't aware of motorcycles or even of people just walking, Make sure to be extra careful. A lot of people just don't pay attention.

On a second note, it was really fun to ride. We used to go for midnight runs on backroads quite a bit. You should have seen me, pregnant on the back of a motorcycle.

I just bought my Dh a motorcycle(that was a fun day- I didn't really have a clue as to what I was looking for-Thank God I got the right one!) The guy told me it should get 25-40 MPG, but myDH said it is getting closer to 50-55 MPG. Its a honda.
