Dh and I are bringing our kids to WDW in Sept. for their first ever trip and we are looking forward to it!!! Only thing is, dh gets very bad motion sickness. He can't even be a passenger in a car (he HAS to drive) or he'll get very sick- nausea and migraines. Is there anything he can do or take that will help him with this when we go to WDW? I don't want him to miss out on any attractions. I wouldn't be exagerating if I said he couldn't go on Dumbo the flying elephant for fear of ruining the rest of his (our) day due to motion sickness. :guilty:

Thanks for any advice!

It would help us too - younger son is going to be a worry on a lot of rides....

Hi Bethany, my DH2B gets bad motion sickness too so we got him some motion sickeness tablets - the kind you take for travelling and he took those and was fine. He managed MIB at universal about 4 times in a row and I mean getting off and straight back on again - he started to feel sick on the 5th go - but then so did I! Without the tablets I'm not sure he would have made it round once.

Make sure you get non drowsy ones tho - you don't want to be falling asleep - we picked up some supposedly non drowsy tablets from the drugstore and by the afternoon he was feeling sleepy and then zonked out for a good 2 hours solid before dinner. The tablets we get in the UK don't give him that problem so must have been the ones we bought in the states.

Another tip I heard was that if you're on a simulater like Star wars and you start to feel sick you should close your eyes as its the combination of the video and the movement that makes you ill.

Hope this helps a bit

We just got back from a cruise. Friends of ours took Bonine and Dramamine. But I brought Ginger pills. They were droswy and not right most of the time. They stopped taking theirs and starting taking mine. And they were great. I read about it on a site for cruising. Cruise Critic.com. I bought them in health food store. They were called motion pills. They use them for pregnant woman also.

Marezine = cyclizine hydrochoride.
Over the counter but the pharmacist usually has to order it. NON-drowsy and works great. Have gotten at Kroger or CVS - @$8 for 12 tablets. Used alot on boats/ships.

ginger motion pills were 100 pills for 6.50. Also remember w/ all motion sickness pills you need to start them the day before and continue to use until end of trip. Dont stop b/c you think your ok.

Thank you all so much for the great tips! We really appreciate it!

One question though. He should take them the day before any rides and EVERY day throughout the trip even if we have a rest day or don't do any rides? Just a little confused on that part.

Thanks!

That's interesting - I may have to look those up as we have quite a few "motion sickness travellers" coming on our trip. I din't know about taking them every day either but I suppose it makes sense. I'd rather do that with herbal remedies than "chemical" ones too.

Ginger pills will go down on the list!

:cheer2:

There are always the scopalamine patches. They do require a RX though. My husband also suffers from motion sickness. He rode ToT before, but this time the combo of ToT and R.rollercoaster in a one-two punch was too much. He says that because R.R. is dark and you can't orient yourself it's worse. In the past he's been o.k. on star tours, but body wars was awful. Go figure. He can do test track and Kali. He can even do space mtn as there is enough light to orient yourself. He loves thunder mtn and Splash mtn. He didn't even consider Mission space. I'm glad I rode once, but I really disliked the feeling at blast-off and it made my vision blurred- and you are NOT to close your eyes. He does fine on Buzz and even on Men in Black at Universal which gives you some hard spins. The Mummy at Universal didn't agree with him as there are some dark drops and curves and sudden reversals. It goes without saying to forget the teacups, aladin's carpet and Dumbo. Hope this helps. :goodvibes

I just know the girl on the cruise w/ us was 9 yrs old. She was not doing well on the dramamine. She started taking the ginger pills and did really well. I gave her mom a whole bunch to take the rest of the trip and she had no further problems. The bottle said take 3 twice a day. I took 2 twice a day and the 9 yr old took 1 twice a day. All Natural... I learned this on a cruise website.

Hope some of these things work;I haven't found that "magic pill" yet... I also get very motion sick and was really surprised at the things that set me off last time. I finally just would rather sit it out than go on anything else that I didn't KNOW would be okay. Needless to say i do not do carousel-type rides or simulators, but even the coasters and the monorail did me in. That said, once i gave up riding, I had a great, non-nauseous/headachy time! There is still plenty to do and I didn't feel left out at all.

Hi  from Ontario Canada. I put about the same question on another post, but I get motion sickness during long car rides. I am going to look for Bonine, I have the wrist bands and I know my mother makes delicious ginger cookies. I guess they all better work or my poor family. My DD12 had to put up with me a year ago while flying down to Disney Cruise. She knew enough to sit with sister inlaw on the way back. But I had a motion pill, mother inlaw got on the cruise and had a great flight home.

I suffer from it myself...discovered it in Star Tours during our 2nd Honeymoon trip. It was aweful, I could not get off that ride quick enough and I am very lucky I did not vomit.

Since then I take the Non-Drowsy version of Dramamine in the morning before we head to a park and I am fine for the whole day. I have been on Star Tours since and got to enjoy the ride.

Mission Space is another story. I did not get sick, but I did have to fight it and I felt really weird for an hour afterward. I absolutely loved the ride and I will go on it again, but even with Dramamine some people might get sick. I would have gone on the ride twice if I felt I could take it, but I just decided not to chance it since I know we will go back.

I get very bad motion sickness too. When we went to WDW for our honeymoon 9 years ago, I had to take a dramamine on the flight over there. Let me tell you, I felt drugged! My new DH had to help me out of the plane and into the rental car. As we checked into the hotel, I was practically on the floor. Now I just take 1/2 a dramamine if I can't find the non-drowsy kind.

I am lucky...the drowsy kind of Dramamine doesn't really effect me. We normally get the Non Drowsy and I take it, but if all we have is regular Dramamine I can still take it with no problems.

Maybe its because coffee is my favorite beverage :bounce:

Also ladies, please take care of it for your husband. Lori aways has it in her purse for me and reminds me to take it...I never think about it until it is too late. I would never get to go on any motion simulators or spinning rides if not for her because it does not work just taking it before you get on a ride.

She saves my day all the time and I love her all the more for it.

The girl I went w/ was 9 and she used it. ( only 1 pill ) I dont know about the 5 yr old. I dont think they would need it. My son was on the cruise w/ us and he is 4. He did not feel anything. But rides, I dont know
