Ok; I love rides that spin you this way and that way and turn you inside out and upside down. Well, to a point that is. ;)

But as I get "older" I find that my stomach can't deal with all that motion or simulation. I heard that Dramamine (spelling) will help. When do you take it?

I went on MissionTo Mars when it first opened last year. And in all honesty I have to tell you I can't even remember what I saw. My eyes were fixed straight ahead, while I was trying not to get sick!

Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated as DS has already asked "you're gona come again on Mission To Mars aren't you??" :worried:

I too get very sick on most rides, I have always been this way, after going on RNR with my DD, I have to sit for a few minutes until I feel better, we do this on each ride I go on with her, we always go in the summer good thing the lines are long, it gives me time to regroup, anyway I havae tried the over the counter pills and they do not work for me, I was looking into the Explorer Relief Band I have heard this works well. We are going the end of august I will be taking this band with me, it can't hurt.
Good luck and let me know if you find something that works.

Dramamine, available OTC now, should be taken 30 to 60 minutes before the activity. It lasts 4 to 6 hours.

Good luck on Mission Space!! We loved it!

I get sick on a lot of rides and would just as soon not do it this trip. I am also looking into it, I have heard that Bonine is better as you don't get as drowsy and fuzzy as you do on Dramimine. I also am looking at the wrist band. I hope someone can give some hard fast answers because a few minutes doesn't recoup me all that much.

When I went I had taken Meclizine and used the Relief band [band always works for me] Not this time. I truely thought I was going to die on that ride.
by the way, Mission to Mars was an old ride that used to be where they built alien encounter, which is now being replaced with the Stitch ride, Mission Space is the New one, not being critical just by way of interesting info.

That's the name of that ride!! I knew it was "Mission" something and Mars was all I could think of! LOL!!!::yes::

I am the worst!! Riding in any vehicle, flying, boats, flashing scenes in movies-The only thing that works for me is Bonamine (dramamine and bonine combo). I was able to do tea cups and California Screamin roller coaster in DL last October-completely floored my family!! We also had a six hour turbulent flight and I felt nothing! Look out RNRC here I come.

I have pictures of myself on the teacups for the first time ever. Never could ride it just had to watch DH and DD's. This year I rode them with my transcopolomine patch which is available by prescription. I was the kid that was always sick on the bus. But with this I can do almost anything. It is so nice. I put it on and leave it on for 3 days.
I have tried bonimine (not sure I spelled that right) but the active ingredient is antivert. It is OTC. This does help some, but not as much as the patch.

The patch is the way to go.
I get motion sick on elevators.
I finaly took a colleagues advice and prescribed myself the scopolamine patch.
Rode everything--even the teacups at 10000 RPM, or so it seemed, as my boys kept saying "faster, faster".
Got off the ride a little unstable on my feet, but was not sick at all.
Ask your doctor for a prescription.
One patch lasts 3 days-right behind the ear.
Good Luck!

Is the patch better then the relief band or the same, and does the patch make you sleepy, I took the patch on a cruise many years ago and I was very sleepy, could have been the sea air, don't know.

Diane:earsgirl:

The patch does make most people dizzy and it is extremely dangerous for anyone with high blood pressure also you Must Not drink alcohol while on it.

I'm feeling queasy already! LOL! Other than Mission Space, what rides were bad for those of you prone to motion sickness? I used to ride everything, but as I've gotten OLDER, I get sicker...and dizzy! I rode a spinning ride at another park with my son last year and I could not get up and exit the ride when it was over..I was that dizzy. Had to sit there for a couple minutes and it was quite embarrassing. I can usually do roller coasters, however.

Dh isn't much for thrill rides but does SOME of the nausea rides. My son is 9, and last year we were at an amusement park and for many rides, I'd wait in line with ds and then he'd ride the ride by himself. He said he didn't mind, but I feel lousy about it. He liked the fact that he could often get to the front of the line as a single rider. Will this happen at WDW?? We often take a friend along to amusement parks, but I'm not taking another child with us to WDW.

Maybe I'll look into the drugs or a patch.

My DD and I get motion sickness sitting still:tongue: LOL and the one thing that REALLY works is Bonine. We take it right before we hit the parks and we can ride EVERYTHING!!! Without the drowsiness.

I have had the same problem as many on the DIS. As I have gotten older I get sick easier on everything. I tried Sea Bands and they didn't work at all. I have had some sporadic results with Bonin(Meclazine) but have also had extreme drowziness problems with it. It was recommended to start taking it 3 days ahead of time to get it into the system and then I wouldn't be sleepy but it still kept me drowsy and ready to go back to the hotel and sleep it off. I was at DCA and able to ride one gently spinning ride and a simulator but the coaster still made me sick.
I may try Dramamine next time. Who knows maybe it won't affect me with sleepiness!
In any case. I think you should test out anything you intend to take. Try it at home for a few days and see how it affects you.

Sorry to hear that you have the motion sickness problem. My advice is only good for Mission Space. Years ago, I went to Space Camp (Academy, actually - the program for older kids). WHile there, the told us to focus on what it is we had to do - the tasks and such, and to not close our eyes. Those two may help. I can't speak to the other remedies, but I am sure that there are some good ones out there. Good luck.

The only thing that works for me is Bonine (Meclazine). However, start taking it 3-4 days before your trip. Take a pill right before bed, and you should be fine the next day.

I agree with the Bonine. We spent 2 weeks on a cruise with some very high seas and the Bonine worked like nothing I've ever tried!! No drowsyness is a big plus....

We found that Bonine does make us tired by the afternoon. On our cruise, the first few days we just needed a nap in the afternoon and couldn't figure out why we were so tired. As soon as we stopped the Bonine, we were fine. I won't take it unless I really need it now.

In answer to a post "what other rides make us ill"?

Usually none; however.......:) As I've gotten "more mature" ;), Star Wars and Space Mountain have gotten me a little quezzy. Mission Space was the worse and I really want to ride it again but I'm cautious. I'd hate to be the "woman pukeing in the garbage can as you exit the capsule"!!

I TOO, AM LIKE MOST OF YOU ALL. WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, I RODE EVERYTHING FROM THE TEA CUPS TO SPACE MOUNTAIN. AS I GOT OLDER......FORGET IT!!!!!!! NO GO!!!!!!! LAST MONTH WITH THE ADVICE FROM THESE BOARDS I TOOK BONINE EVERY MORNING FROM BEGINNING TO END AND DID JUST FINE. I DIDNT RIDE THE TEA CUPS BUT I DID RIDE SM. MS WAS OUT OF THE QUESTION FOR ME.

I AM FLYING TO JAMAICA IN MAY AND WILL USE BONINE ONCE AGAIN.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!!!!
