45 days but who's counting:rotfl:

Last year at WDW I got serious motion sickness on Thunder Mountain Railroad. I want to avoid a repeat of that this year at DL. Does anybody take anything for motion sickness or just avoid those rides?

Have you tried ginger tablets, made by Gravol? I think they would sell that in the USA, I know they sell it in Canada - NO drowsy effects, and it is supposed to work very well. They tried ginger on mythbusters for motion sickness, and it was one of the only natural remedies that worked.

Other people swear by taking a children's Gravol tab. for fewer side effects than regular Gravol.

Do NOT do the goat trick; no goat there now, but don't try it without the goat, anyway.

Also, if you take something, make sure you take it at least an hour prior to. I find when I take real Gravol it always takes that long to kick in.

Don't go on the spinning tea cup ride, but I guess you knew that. I have always had pretty severe motion sickness when traveling in a vehicle even across town, but for some reason, the rides don't bother me that much. On California Screamin', I really move my body in to the banked turns, etc. and that helps a lot.

Good luck, and have fun!! :)

Space Mountain is a big fat no for me, no matter. I wasn't brave enough to try Star Tours this past Nov., since I remember it from years before. I forgot about those 2 rides! Oh, and Astorblasters - I had to be the one controlling the spin on the vehicle - my kids thought it would be fun to control it but I had to say no to them. :( No matter, they were busy shooting at the targets, anyway. :)

My BIL wears those bracelets - but I have no idea if it works for rides, he uses his for road trips. Keep your eyes open & straight ahead, closing them will mess you up further.

Google biobands.

OK, I must be the real wimp here. I ALWAYS take two of the Bonine or Dramamine (or generic) 24 hour tablets any time we go. I do get car sick, and just the THOUGHT of getting sick usually makes me sick. But if I take the tablets, I can always tell myself that I took them and it works. It always works and I love ALL the rides!!

I take meclizine (one of the dramamine and I believe bonine as well) They used to sell a orally disintegrating bonine tablet that contained meclizine that worked wonders.

Many years back I took a bus tour thru Europe for 3 wks, and as I suffer from motion sickness quite badly, my doc prescribed (sp?) a patch thing worn behind my ear - works similar to the nicotine patch, I assume, slowly releasing meds into the bloodstream. Can't remember the name of it right now - will call doc's office and get it. Worked like a charm - put one on the night before a long bus ride, and I could read, do whatever while in the bus. Also worked on water - English channel crossing (bad weather) would have been HELL without them!
there were no real side effects, other than a bit of a dry mouth - drank more water than usual, but that was about it. No drowsiness, like with Gravol. Ginger pills never worked for me, but others swear by them.

Will try to find the name of the patches, but this was many years ago, so there may be something new out there....

Star Tours has been the big one for my kids.

Jack

Actually, Dumbo even triggers nausea for me.
SM is still the worst though, as it is in the dark so your eyes can't tell your body what the heck is happening. Gravol really does work though, and, the more days I spend in the park, the better it is - the stomache lurch that happens when I first enter the park on certain rides tends to fade, as I get more and more accustomed to the swoops and turns.

So... go on lots of rides. :)

Oh, man me TOO!!!! Haven't been on it since that first time a bajillion years ago. Maybe I will get brave and try one of the remedies recommended here and try it!;)

Thanks all. Roller coasters and heights do me in. I was just worried about gravol and making me doozy (or more doozy than normal...)

DD gets very carsick and the only ride that bothered her was SM. I had vertigo when we went to DL and the doctor gave me a prescription for meclizine. Unfortunately I can't tell you if it works because I didn't use it. It turned out that the vertigo only really got to me on stairs.

Looks like the duplicate post bug got me too. Sorry.

Found it! It was called Transderm Scop, and it's a medication called scopolomine (sp?). Gravol works for me, but it also knocks me out for about 4 hrs (ok for plane trip, no so good for DL trip!!) These patch thingys did all they were supposed to without the dopeyness! (sorry - no pun intended!)

I'm planning on asking my doc for more before our trip - don't wanna be the wet blanket that douses everyone else's fun!!

Good luck!

I used to get carsick on long car rides as a child, so I always used to avoid rides that involved spinning or going backwards, those were the worst for me.

As an adult, I tried Dramamine, and it worked but made me very tired. A pharmacist advised me to take half a tablet the night before, then a full tablet the day of the event. I think this was to deal with the drowsy side-effect.

Years later a non-drowsy formula came out, and it worked great! Lately I've bought Bonine, and the box says to use the lowest dosage (1 or 2 tablets) that is effective. I'm able to do well with just one pill. I take one pill before we head to the park, and it lasts all day. The Teacups are not a problem at all! :thumbsup2

I have not done California Screamin' because DH tried it when DS7 wanted to ride, and said he just about lost dinner  ... or is it because I'm a big chicken? :scratchin :rotfl2:

I am usually very susceptible to getting carsick (always gets me in the front seat when riding in the car with more than two other adults), and have been discovering that carnival rides can do me in (the Tilt-a-Whirl at our county fair just about ruined my last visit there) but for some reason, the only ride that affected me at DLR was the moving gondolas on the Sun Wheel. I hope I never have issues on Space Mountain as it is my all time favorite ride!

I am the worst travel sickness person ever (can't go 5 minutes in a car in the summer) yet I love rollercoasters (faster, higher, more loops the better!!). When I ride coasters or other motion based rides I wear my sea bands which I wear for travelling. I have never had a problem riding coasters wearing them. The only time I have felt slightly ill was when I rode Mission Space on it's opening day (before it was tamed down a bit!!)
