motion sickness medicine

what medicine is good for motion sickness...the last time I flew on an airplane I was sick to my stomach the whole time...it will only be a 3 hour flight so I can't be knocked out nor do I want to be...any suggestions?

How severe is your motion sickness?

My DH has suffered from really severe motion sickness his whole life. His doctor prescribes a prescription strength pill that has made it possible for him to fly comfortably.

I have just mild symptoms at times. Dramamine works for me.

it's not severe enough for a prescription....Dramamine makes me too drowsy if our flight wasn't so short I would use Dramamine...and the less drowsy version of Dramamine has weird side effects

various options from eating green apples, taking ginger pills, Rx for meclizine (OTC = Bonine), buying $100 "relief band" which is like a wrist watch, wearing elastic wristbands with pressure points on them, Rx for Transderm Scop patches for behind your ear, and Motion Eaze (like an essential oil). Then there's the keep something on your stomach and eat pretzels approach as well.

pick your poison! ONLY the relief band and Motion Eaze will help if you're ALREADY sick; the others need to be taken as a preventive BEFORE the motion starts.

I've tried them all, sometimes in combination with each other.

I only take one Dramamine pill an hour before take off. If I take two I'm out! So one works for me and I haven't had a problem with it yet. And my motion sickness ranges from so-so to "swaying-puking-I'm seeing stars" - kind of motion sickness.

Coke syrup is another common anti nausea trick. I slowly sip a coke and it has always worked quite well.....

Gravol does it for me - I usually end up sleeping through the flight when I've taken one! I brought some with me for a trip a few years ago - thinking I would need it for the kids - well, turned out they were fine - I was green!

you can go to the pharmacy counter at wal-mart and get a bottle of 100 meclizine (generic bonine) pills for about $5-6 dollars. i got a bottle 2-3 years ago at sam's club for about that price. you have to ask for them at the pharmacy counter, but you don't need a prescription. they work WONDERS! if you get them, i recommend that you start taking them a week before your trip. hope this helps!

I ALWAYS use the seabands. I get sick riding in any seat but the front seat so I wear them when i get stuck in the back or I know I will be going around winding roads. I hate taking a pill that I know will wear away but the seabands work all day

Bonine is the way to go. You can buy it at Walmart and just take one a day. I would start a couple of days before you go. I did this before/during a trip to Jamaica and I never felt motion sick at all. Hope this helps!!!

Is there any side effects to the Bonine? I will be traveling with my DD7 alone, just the 2 of us, so I can not be out of it. I don't really have motion sickness, I just don't like flying.

My mom gets these little patches you stick behind your ear and they work wonders. She gets them from her dr. and I don't know the name of them, but EVERYTHING makes my mom sick, so if those will work then they are a MIRACLE...
