The local news here in Orlando just announced that due to too many "accidents" that they are now going to hand out motion sickness bags to guests who ride Mission Space. According to the report it has become a maintance nightmare keeping up with cleanup.

In happier news, the NEMO Theme addition to Living Seas should debut the 21st of this month.

Ewww!! Now that makes me just want to run and get in line for the ride...NOT! My dh is really looking forward to it though. I will tell him not to return with a "doggie bag". I wonder who gets that kind of job and what they get paid for it. "Yes, honey it was a fine day at MS and my puke quota was filled by noon!"

:rotfl:

I just put this on another one of these posts but how are they going to fit the bags into the theming of the ride.

OK. That just did it for me. I haven't been able to decide if I should give it a try or not. NOT! Thanks for making my decision for me.;)

Sorry, couldn't resist. I know it's gross, but it's not like you get to use that smilie every day.

Depending on which way you are facing, it is going to be plastered all over your face rather than collected in the bag. For much of the ride time it takes a lot of effort to bend your head forward away from the seat back.

If so many accidents of this kind happen, maybe the ride is much too aggressive.

This is the only Disney ride that I recall being disoriented after I got off.

I think it might be happening more after the ride is finished then during the ride. I've been on it many of times and have never seen somebody get sick on it. When I see somebody sick it is always after the ride is over and they've walked to the exit and then it hits them. I've seen some people hanging onto a garbage can at the exit area.

UGH! I'm getting queasy just reading about this stuff LOL. I will pass on this ride. My husband is looking forward to riding it next week. He has been warned and I will have no sympathy if he is sick aftewards. I've waited too long for this Christmas trip and I'm going to enjoy myself LOL

I am the world's worst ride chicken and I loved Mission Space. Not even slight nausea, just a feeling of elation. As long as you follow the instructions, you will probably be fine! Take some Bonine just to be safe.

Now Test Track is another matter. We finally got on TT when it was not broken--a miracle, as we have been trying to ride it for years. I came off that ride dizzy and wobbly in the knees. I'll take Mission Space any day!

I rode MS last week and the bags are hanging off the front of the cockpit to the left and to the right. There were two hangers with bags in each. Fortunatley, they were not needed - my brother rode with me - he is an Air Force pilot and gave me some pointers for dealing with the motion sickness....

How about passing on some of those "trade secrets' that helped you deal with motion sickness. Any knowledge on the subject would be greatly appreciated! I usually don't have problem with motion sickness, but on our last trip after riding the Tea Cups.... Any way, I hope not to experience that feeling when we are there in Feb.

Follow the directions that cap com give you will help. Keep your head back, don't turn your head, and don't try to look around. The nausea is caused from the spinning of your inner ear. If you keep you head in the one position you will be fine. I always look around using only my eyes and have never tried to move my head during the ride.

I was at Epcot last week and only noticed the sickness bags on Mission:Space on Friday.

I rode twice on Friday and the first time we had about an extra 3 minute wait between the crew briefing and walking into the hallway outside of the ride. When we got in our ship I noticed the smell of that STUFF that is used to clean-up (and mask the smell of) vomit. So I'm guessing someone had lost it on the previous "spin"

What is interesting about the motion sickness bags is that they don't tell you they are there. I only noticed during my second ride on Friday.

This is one ride I can't decide if I want to ride or not. I do get motion sickness. Being on a water raft can make me queasy. Star Tours make me feel sick. Universe of Energy bothered me. However, I don't want to miss out on the coolest ride around. I think I will take some Dramamine and make DH ride it 1st. He may be the only one riding it from our group.

Oh, this does not bode well for me. 12yo DS and I are planning on spending a full day at EPCOT alone together, riding MS as much as lines/fast pass will allow. I've promised him I will ride it ONCE, and after that he may be on his own. I get very queasy in CircleVision360 movies. I'm OK as long as I'm moving in a direction; it's the spinning that gets me.

Wow, I must have missed them, I just came home last week and rode it on my final day there (Monday).

What I find really funny is that this ride seems so much easier on my bod in general than Body Wars or Star Tours. I must not be proned to motion troubles like that then, because I even looked to my right now and then during the ride (I was on the end by the door so no point in looking left) and that didn't seem to bother me at all. I did have some very bad sinus congestion and the "pressure" really did hurt my ears, but that pain went away after a few minutes after the ride.

Really I didn't see anyone getting off sick, wobbly or anything. Didn't smell anything anywhere either. Just a few minutes after the ride, I was "dancing" to the silly e-card movies you can send out. Chalk me up as one who doesn't understand what the big deal on this one is. Some of those movies that make you feel like you are flying affect me more than this and you CANNOT feel the spinning at all! This isn't a spin like the tea cups anyway... it is a bigger spin like those rides that would cause you to feel plastered against the wall at the fairs.

For me, not that I have ever gotten sick on a ride so far (knock on wood) Body Wars would make me sick quicker than this one!

The tips my brother gave me were the ones already mentioned (look forward, head back, eyes open) but he also said to keep your hands loose in your lap or if I started to feel sick to take the joystick and pretend thet I was steering the spacecraft. The more my brain was processing and felt in control the less I would notice the motion...he was right. I usually get very motion sick and it seems to work for me.

Haven't any of you ever taken a cruise? I know when we have there have been barf bags in dispensers in various locations on the ship. It certainly doesn't seem to stop people from cruising. Nor should the presence of bags at M:S stop people from riding. In fact, this should help the line move much faster. Up until now, everytime someone got sick, they had to close down the ride until it was cleaned up. Now they can just toss the bag and keep on going.
