Mother's Day Weekend at OKW

My almost 6yo daughter (5/12) and I returned last night from our first stay at OKW. We arrived in Orlando about 7:45 pm Thursday 5/05. We had a very good experience with ME for our ride from the airport to OKW. We checked in around 9 pm and were given room 4810, a studio. We had requested NS and near the Hospitality House. We got NS but were about a 10 minute walk to the HH and it was a HA room which disappointed me at first but ended up not being a problem with just the 2 of us. The location wasn't great - the view from the balcony was trees and heating units but we were right across the street from a bus stop which was great. The room was in very good condition and had a nice sized fridge. We spent most of our time at the parks but we did try out the new slide which was really fun. We ate at Olivia's for breakfast 3 mornings and enjoyed them all. We loved the resort - it has such a relaxing feel to it. We had very good luck with the bus service into and out of the resort - we never waited more that 10 minutes. We have another stay here planned for October in a 2BR. I will again request NS and near the HH, but also non HA, being that we will have 2 toddlers and need a tub. We own at BCV, which we love, but if we decide to buy more points somewhere else, OKW will probably be the one.

awww that is so sweet - a Mommy and Daughter trip then a Dad and Son trip around father's day! What a great idea! (especially since I have 2 sons right now - one on the way that hasn't cared to share with me its gender - but it might me a mom's trip alone )

Sounds like you had a great time!

One note, if you have a 2 bedroom, it is my understanding that at least one of the bathrooms would have a tub even if the room was considered HA. Can someone verify this for me?

How great to have a Mommy/daughter trip! It seems that the late arrival is what is responsible for the HA rooms. Doc posted something similar on the DVC board. A lot of the studio rooms at OKW are hemmed in with vegetation and have views of the air conditioning units. I have always thought those little balconys with the studios were useless. Hopefully, you will get a great 2 bedroom in October! Will you be able to arrrive earlier in the day?

I figured our late arrival was what led to the room we got. I wanted my daughter to go to school on Thursday though. We had a WONDERFUL Mommy/Daughter trip and will do it again. I did sit on the balcony one morning to call home and read for a while when she was still sleeping. The balcony wasn't much but it was much nicer than home (MA) where it was cold and rainy all weekend. In October we will travel on a Sunday after a late afternoon wedding on Saturday so we should definitely arrive earlier in the day. Now my husband and son are looking forward to their alone trip at the end of June.

The boys are also staying at OKW. With 3 trips planned for this year we wanted to take advantage of the lesser points. When we go in October we were supposed to have extended family come with us (my sister, my niece and her 2 kids) so we actually borrowed some 2006 points to get the 2BR. Now they may not be going and my husband, who is self employed, isn't sure he can get one of his employees to cover his hours. I may have a 2BR for myself and my 3 kids (9, 6, and almost 3 at the time of the trip). That would be an ultimate luxury! I really enjoyed the trip alone with my daughter and would definitely do it again, although we have discussed switching kids next time. I also think Daddy and I need a parents only trip - maybe next Jan/Feb. We'll see!

I would agree with the "Mommy/Daddy" only tirp! You will have a great time if DH can't come this fall! Everybody gets their own bed!
