Mother-Son Wedding Song

I danced with my dad to this song, and I think its just as beautiful for a mother and son dance too.

Because You Loved Me by Celine Dion.

For all those times you stood by me
For all the truth that you made me see
For all the joy you brought to my life
For all the wrong that you made right
For every dream you made come true
For all the love I found in you
I'll be forever thankful baby
You're the one who held me up
Never let me fall
You're the one who saw me through through it all
You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'coz you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me

You gave me wings and made me fly
You touched my hand I could touch the sky
I lost my faith, you gave it back to me
You said no star was out of reach
You stood by me and I stood tall
I had your love I had it all
I'm grateful for each day you gave me
Maybe I don't know that much
But I know this much is true
I was blessed because I was loved by you

You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'coz you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me

You were always there for me
The tender wind that carried me
A light in the dark shining your love into my life
You've been my inspiration
Through the lies you were the truth
My world is a better place because of you

You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'coz you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me

I'm everything I am
Because you loved me

I was raised by my step dad and think of him as my "dad". I chose, you got a friend by James Taylor.

"You'll be in my Heart" Phil Collins? You know, from the Lion King! We can't use that one ourselves, cause it makes me cry...

I love this one! Not too corny or overly sappy. I think it's perfect (although I think I would cry if I were to use it for one of my sons too!)

I'd like to dance to Baby Mine from Dumbo. DS has agreed so far, but he's only 13 so I don't think it'll hold! I think it's a really sweet song between a mom and her boy.

My son got married in May. I was trying to come up with a song and had thought about Phil Collins's song from The Lion King (I like the song but have not seen the movie), and then I thought, "who am I kidding?"

We needed a song that was a reflection of us and our making it through the struggles of my divorce and ending all contact with their abusive father ten years ago. My son and I chose and shagged to Jimmy Buffett's "Changes in Latitudes," which includes the line "If we couldn't laugh we would all go insane." We had a blast, and the photos show a young man and his mom, laughing the whole dance. We still laugh when we hear the song :rotfl:

FWIW, his lovely bride and her dad shagged to their song, too;) She loved our choice.

Ok..........so I had to look up "shagging", 'cause dirty little me only knew this word as british slang for something the bride and groom would be doing later :rolleyes1

Anyway, after a video of a couple doing the "shag" dance, that looks really cool!

Another vote for simple man. My son and I did this at his wedding. I'm not a sappy type person (Dh is the setimental one in the family) so it was perfect for us.

Billy Joel's Just the Way You Are
Stevie Wonder's You are the Sunshine of my Life
Edwin McCain I Could Not Ask for More
Frank Sinatra's Just the Way You Look Tonight:)

My son is getting married in September. HE called last month to ask what song I wanted to dance to.

I told him the one I always told him since he was a little boy. I can't listen to this song without crying.

We will be dancing to Puff the Magic Dragon.

Very odd, I know but it will always remind me of my son.

I went to a wedding where the groom and his mom danced to Paul Simon's Love Me Like A Rock. They looked like they were having so much fun.

My son and I danced to Baby Mine. I used to sing it to him as a lullaby when he was a baby. He remembered and surprised me with it at his wedding!

These are two of my favorite songs! But only for a bride and groom. Just too 'romantic' for a mother and son.

Nolcrest, I think Puff is a great song to dance to. In fact I am thinking of just going to a childhood song as well. I love 'Rainbow Connection' and 'You are my Sunshine', lol.

Thank you so much for all the input everyone, I have looked into every one. And I am still searching. :guilty:

My sons are too young to think about the mother/son dance yet...but we will dance to Blessed by Elton John. I sang it to both when I was pregnant with them, then as I danced with them as infants in my arms. They have no memories of it, but I treasure my memories of dacning with my infant boys.

Blessed

Hey you, you're a child in my head
You haven't walked yet
Your first words have yet to be said
But I swear you'll be blessed

I know you're still just a dream
your eyes might be green
Or the bluest that I've ever seen
Anyway you'll be blessed

And you, you'll be blessed
You'll have the best
I promise you that
I'll pick a star from the sky

Pull your name from a hat
I promise you that, promise you that, promise you that
You'll be blessed

I need you before I'm too old
To have and to hold
To walk with you and watch you grow
And know that you're blessed

DS #2 and I danced to Noel Paul Stookey's "The Sandman Song". It was the lullaby that I sang to him every night when he was little. He found it on iTunes, had the D.J. play it and surprised me.

That's what we used! I love the song and felt it was perfect for us. My son said it was a good fit for our dance, too!!

My son and his bride did their first dance to "The Way You Look Tonight." They had practiced quite a bit, and it was so romantic and sweet:lovestruc.

OT, the bride surprised the groom by asking to have the dance floor cleared, and the band struck up "Bad Boys," the theme song from Cops. There were only police officers on the dance floor - about 25 of them, both male and female, dancing very energetically. It was so much fun!

Okay people, there are no Phil Collins songs in The Lion King. Those are all from Tarzan. ;)

I don't think The Way You Look Tonight is too romantic for parent/child, but I think it's more suited to a father/daughter dance. But I prefer the Tony Bennett version because it seems more sweet and sentimental and less 'bouncy' than the Frank Sinatra version.
